Yes, it fully retractable. Yes, it light (need AA batteries not included) I was nervous about buying it, as there where such a bad reviews, some say it will not light, and when they arrived, one was bad (has the top of the sword miss) but I immediately did the return and Amazon send a new one two days later, I didn't even have to return the faulty unit. The other was perfect, light work well, looks super cool at night party battery last all night, ( I guess it depends on use but I did brought spare batteries in case) If you play battle with the sword to harsh, them obliviously it's gonna fall apart, but (haven done it) it's very easy to assemble back. ... show more

GREAT lightsaber, posable, and came in great condition. However, when I placed the batteries the LED lights would not turn on. Tried different batteries as well but nothing, a bit of a let-down but overall really nice!

My son was Anakin this Halloween and used the accessory to complete the costume. It states that it is not battle ready and rightly so. The telescoping saber is flimsy and inconsistently manufactured. It would seem that most have a curve in them rather than being straight and true. It also broke on one drop. My son's friend had the same red saber and that one broke before Halloween. It is a good thing that tape and wire ties make for a good look on the light-saber. They are cheap enough, but the quality definitely offset the cost savings. It was a very awesome product, brand new, but the blade itself cracked. I believe it was me fault because I hit the floor with it (albeit not very hard at all!) But I have a replacement coming and now know not to smush it on the floor to close it!

The product was great. But, the saber wasn’t Anakin’s. It was Darth Vader’s saber painted different colors. I was suspicious so I looked up a picture of Darth Vader’s saber and, they look exactly the same. Every angle.

I tried to order this twice. The first item was defective. The switch had a short and the lightsaber would not stay on even in the on position. No big deal, I returned and ordered a replacement. The replacement arrive and I opened the bag it came in. The lightsaber fell right out. The original packaging had been already opened and then was obviously a return that was just sent right back out to me. The lightsaber is covered in scratches and you can see a large gouge in the case where it has obviously been pried open. (Probably to fix the faulty switch issue my first item had). This one does actually work correctly but due to the heavy scratches and wear on this used item I will need to return this as well. ... show more

We installed the batteries as we would for most toys, but noticed the light would not turn on. After a second glance at the batteries, we noticed the installation instructions aren't traditional. The batteries go in opposite of most toys. So for those that stated the lights wouldn't work, check how you installed the batteries. The products (we bought two) were great for Halloween and have held up to play so far. They will break if you hit hard. Great product for our purpose (costumes) and now they love playing with them! ... show more
