I use rolls w my brand name vacuum sealer. I'm happy that food lasts a long time when sealed. But why the heck can't they make a sealer that doesn't require several 'extra' inches of material for each bag sealed? This doesn't vacuum, but it lets me seal close to the edge. I do worry, though, that it comes w spare parts! I worry what that says for longevity. We'll see.

What a great and useful tool this is! I've used it on plastic bags and mylar bags, and it seals both perfectly in only about 3 seconds. There is an adjustable dial (1-8) that adjusts the heat setting for different materials. I used the same setting, about a 5, for both plastic and mylar bags, and it took literally about 3 seconds to make a perfect seal. The directions say to give it about 2 seconds more after the red light goes out to ensure a complete seal, which I did, for about 5 seconds total. Although this unit does not remove air from the bag, I use oxygen remover packets in both mylar and thick plastic bags. You can buy different sizes of these packets here on Amazon, and they work great. Put one or two in your bag, press out as much air as possible, then heat seal. After several minutes you will notice that the bag has "sucked in," which indicates that the oxygen removers have done the job. I have stored freeze-dried foods for years using this method. I have the 8" 300W heat sealer. Be aware that many bags are wider than 8", so the 12" 400W heat sealer may be more suitable. However, I get around this easily by just heat sealing one side of the bag, then turning the bag over and sealing from the other side. It works fine this way. This is a much more economical solution than those Food Saver types of vacuum sealers. The bags get very expensive and can end up costing more than the unit itself over a period of time. Mylar food storage bags and oxygen absorber packets will do the same job just as well for much less $$.

When I was growing up, my mother had a plastic sealer that was popular in the 80s. I remember sealing all kinds of things in that sealer, as well as sandwiches and Halloween treat bags. When I saw this one, I knew that it was going to solve an issue we have had with our vacuum sealer. Lately, we have been does sous vide steak, which requires you to put the steak in a sealed bag, cook it, then take it out and either sear it or grill it. Pretty much makes a foolproof steak to order, but requires a fully sealed bag since water/steam is involved. Our vacuum sealer was experiencing issues sealing the bag enough for the sous vide process. That's where this sealer comes in. The sealer comes ready to use, and has extra element wire for repairs. Since we were using quart-sized freezer bags for the process, I wasn't sure what setting I should put the sealer on. I chose around 50%, laid the bag across, and the sealer took care of the rest. The seal on the bag was perfect - completely sealed without melting the bag in two. I was impressed enough I used it to fix a plastic Disney raincoat my wife had that the seam came apart. Took a few tries to dial in the temp, but fixed it good as new. Overall, a very handy appliance to have around.

I am notorious for eating half a bag of chips and throwing away the rest when they get stale... This ends that. After a bit of experimenting with the temp I found that 3 makes a perfect air tight seal without melting the bag too much. If you fold your bag multiple times id go with about halfway between 3 and 4, as 4 would start to melt it to the point it would either not be air tight, or the seam would become weak and act more like a perforation. I actually used that to my advantage and would do a quick seal seam with 3, then a bit higher up run it on 4 and create a tear line to rip off the excess bag. This literally if faster than reaching for scissors or a chip click, with both seams done in about 3 seconds total. If you are using it for more industrial needs like packing small items in bags, I can also highly recommend it for that with some plastic bags I tested sealing very nicely at 2-3 setting. I can only imagine what materials it could handle at its higher end of the heat scale!

Got this to seal my bags on some of my items. Does exactly what it needs to do. It seals the plastic in just a few seconds. Had to get use to the temp setting because I was worried to turn it up to high but I did not have to turn it up past 5 on the settings.

Excellent for the price! Works well; however concerned for durability. Would recommend product to anyone using for hobby type need. Water tight seal. Super easy to use. Set up - remove from box. Needs no heat up time. 90% + perfect seals on first time test using with cheap clear shower curtain. May work even better with quality material

This is a musket this machine actually warms up quick saves you from having to get a Ziploc bag because all you do is you open up your bag of chips when you’re done you put them in between the sealer close it down is sells quick I highly recommend it for anybody who is trying to get away from having plastic in the environment
