  • Default closed back recommendation now
Size: Adult Style: NTH-100
I feel compelled to write a review. Every time I've ever ordered a pair of closed back headphones, this comfort + isolation + sound signature is what I was hoping for. I'm just here for a good closed back, I don't care about monitoring. The NTH-100 is more than adequately comfortable, isolates adequately well (no ANC competitor but that's also not why I'm here), and the sound is FULL yet uncongested and balanced. Everything's there, in the right proportions. Highs are not fatiguing and I'm very satisfied with the level of detail they can reproduce. Not as "open" sounding as my 6XXs (obv) but for most genres I think I prefer the NTH-100 outright. Imaging might be a lil better on the 6XX but I'm certainly not complaining. Better sound signature than my M1060s. They absolutely take a dump on my M50Xs and Meze 99 noirs. Significantly better than pad swapped M40s from memory. Unless I need the form factor of earbuds, I'd take these over my FiiO FH7s, and I LOVE those. Seriously I bought these because Z said they finally fill the SOLID under 200 closed back segment and I wanted to check out the state of the art (haha). And yeah, I don't know what more you'd want out of a $150 closed back. Put, say, an Audeze logo on these and I'm confident people would happily shell >>$150. Rode did a truly bang up job here. Good on ya mates. Notes - Can power these to uncomfortable volumes on most songs using the apple lightning dongle and they sound pretty good, although of course they sound better on my desktop amp. - Stock cable is of good quality but pretty microphonic, ima try to find an alternative now that these are here to stay. - Adjustment method is kinda weird, not really well suited to sharing between multiple users with different head sizes as it takes some effort to satisfyingly adjust. However, I do appreciate that they lock once in a good place for me. - I really like the ear cup shape comfort/design wise. I'm very happy with the design overall. - They feel really well built - You should probably buy these ... show more

  • Great headset, amazing customer support. Worth every penny!
Size: Adult Style: NTH-100
I love this headset. The customer support is fantastic. I ordered my first pair and after some time the clips that retain the headsets position broke somehow. I contacted customer support to see if they could send me a new piece and they sent me a brand new headset. to say that Rode takes care of their customers is an understatement. The sound quality is great for what I use them for. The value for money both with customer service and quality are in my unbeatable. The one thing is the cord it does hinder a little bit but if your wanting little to no latency you have to connect by cord. ... show more

  • Headset is awesome mic is not tough to hold up
Size: Adult Style: NTH-100
I love the headset. I hate the microphone it's broken and needed to be replaced. Headset fits well. You must use a rode mic if you want it to work well for gaming.

  • Good looking and good sounding wired headphone.
Size: Adult Style: NTH-100
Good build quality. Comfortable to wear for a long duration and very pleasant sounding to my non-audiophile ears. I think it's a great looking headphone as well. Although, this is my first real higher quality headset and I'm unable to compare them to others. I'm generically very happy with the purchase and feel that it's good value for the price. The problem with the plastic part breaking, I think may have been fixed by the manufacture. Either way, this has a life time warranty. So, I decided to not worry about it too much. Don't forget to register your headphone with the manufacture when you get them. Few negatives: 1) Proprietary cord is a pain. I can't swap for another higher quality cord easily. BTW, the provided cord is waaaaay too long unless if you are the type to sit on a chair and connect to the stereo system. 2) Where the cord attaches is directly on top of my shoulders. It's slightly annoying especially if you wear a hoodie or other jackets that are bulky at the shoulder. It rubs on it too much. (This is the number one complaint for me) 3) It's a bit bulky. It's not too comfortable to sling this around your neck. ... show more

  • Must have!
Size: Adult Style: NTH-100
I purchased these to use while editing video. They are SO soft and cancel out all background noise. Cord length was great and they are easy to put in a bag when editing on the go. The sound quality was amazing and enabled me to hear the smallest details in the audio.

  • Comfortable for long periods but cable did not work
Size: Adult Style: NTH-100
I am not getting into the sound. Men and women hear differently, young ears, old ears. Men typically have 'male pattern hearing loss'. Operating a motor vehicle with the window down will cause changes to hearing. I am not a gamer. The headphones are for monitoring what is going into my field recorder. I need a wide frequency response and a comfortable fit for long periods without an ear sweat bath. I wear glasses. The ear cups fit my ears and I do not have a problem with ear pad pressure. The 1st set was returned to Amazon due to sound only on the left channel. The 2nd set had the same defect. What are the odds of sets from different suppliers having the same defect? Back and forth with RODE customer service. I can't tell if CS is with humans or AI. They believe that the breaking plastic piece problem has been corrected. The problem with the sound was that the proprietary cable with 'twist lock' placed the 3,5mm plug in to far and sound shifted to the left channel. Headphones made in Australia, cables made in China. I don't know if the problem is in Australia or China. I created a fix for the problem. Australian headphones require a 'Crocodile Dundee' scenario ( whip out a knife pun ) and a 'Goldilocks' scenario. The knife is a craft knife with a sharp #11 blade. The first image shows the stock 3,5mm plug. Using the knife, cut at the molded-in arrows used to show direction of locking. #2 image shows the plug after cutting. The twist lock element does not bond to the sleeve and slides off. The twist lock element piece needs the cut side to be trimmed flat. The 3rd image shows the 'Goldilocks conundrum'. The shim pack to position the twist lock element towards the tip has to be 'just rite'. Too much and it is a fail. Too little and it is a fail. 'Just rite' for me was 1,7mm. The nylon washer is 0.055" ( 1,4mm ) and the nomex 411 washer is 0.015" (0,3mm ). The 4th image shows the assembled plug. The 5th image shows the orange RODE plug alongside a stock 3,5mm TRS plug. I modified 2 cables and am testing ear cups/cables. Yes, the cables are microphonic. Time will tell if the breaking plastic pieces have been corrected. RODE CS is chewing on my fix. They are not aware of cable fitment problems. Buying the RODE NTH-100 is a roll of the dice. You must be a crafty person. Or buy European headphones. Update; June 9, 2024. The 2nd set of headphones was received during the 2nd week of January. One Fitlok piece broke and I glued a piece of ABS plastic onto the broken side and glued a piece of ABS plastic to the other Fitlok as a back up. The side without the ABS reinforcement broke. I have down graded the review to one star. Update; June 27, 2004. Both Fitlok pieces broke and RODE sent a replacement that was supposed to be an upgraded-current design. The replacement headphones have the same defective FitLok plastic pieces and the cable does not work. When the twist lock feature of the cable is engaged, sound transfers to the left channel. Disengaging the twist lock will provide stereo sound but the cable will fall out. This headphone is a global problem for RODE. ... show more

  • This headset is a total pass. Major durability and design issues.
Size: Adult Style: NTH-100
It's not all bad with these headphones. There are some pluses. Like the "cooling memory foam". When you put them on they really do feel cool and they actually maintain that feeling for awhile. The material is soft and comfortable. Good job! Sound quality: Fine for monitoring. Wasn't blown away but I wasn't looking for audiophile level. The weak point where headphones usually break is the pivot point. At first I thought that the curved part attaching to each earcup was plastic but that is actually METAL! This is good cause otherwise they would surely break. The locking mechanism to adjust the length of each side is a great idea. No more accidentally changing your dialed in "fit". That's where the good ends and there are in my opinion, three DEALBREAKERS. 1. The "locks" that adjust the length on each side are cheap, cheap, cheap PLASTIC! Broke after a month of use. There was no drop event that broke them, just one day I went to gently put them on my head and one side just snapped. This is a COMMON issue and there are even other reviewers with the same issue wiht pictures. 2. The earpads themselves are designed to be easily detached. Just handling the headphone one of them snapped off but not in the way intended. Small little plastic bits where they clip on broke off. The attaching clips are so thin and fragile. THEY WILL NOT LAST. 3. Earcups are small but when you look at them from the inside there is very little room in there for your ears. I included a picture with a quarter for scale. If you are going to make over the ear headphones RODE, make them proper and give some actual room in there. Not the worst first attempt by RODE and I'm sure the next gen will be better but these are a hard pass, AVOID. ... show more
