I shoot video for weddings and action sports and this dead cat has become a necessity in my bag. I rely on it almost always if I am filming and recording onboard audio. Its great in less then perfect conditions and really works out well. Some complain that you have to have the original foam screen that comes with your Rode mic. I like that it slips over the foam because it gives me an added layer of protection against wind. Functionally, the product does a fairly good job of reducing (not blocking out entirely) wind noise during shooting. I put it over my video mic, and it has a cool fuzzy look as well. The fur does not show up on footage (unlike other people who mentioned that "complaint" in their review), because I took the stock hotshoe mount out of the mic and put a taller one in, so the unit stands an inch or two above the camera. The one problem I have with this, and the reason for the 4 star rating, is that this thing SHEDS, the little hairs are everywhere inside my camera bag and something tells me they are going to somehow find their way into the sensors, mirror boxes, and interior parts of my 2 cameras (a 5d mark II and a T2i) and mess things up. It would be 10x more horrifying if they somehow got into my lenses... ... show more

I put off buying this for about a year because of the price ... $39 seemed expensive for a fuzzy sock. However, I began doing more interviews in the field for short videos related to a non-profit I volunteer for. The wind noise with my Cannon 70D was a real issue ... people thought it was thunder when they heard the audio - and where I live wind is almost always a factor. I needed to do something. Searching through the internet for solutions kept bringing me back to this product. So I finally bit the bullet and bought this 'deadcat'. It works. And now I wish I had bought it a while back. Small breezes that used to sound like crackling thunder are no longer even heard. Strong, hat-holding, wind sounds like ... wind, and voices can still be clearly heard above the background wind noise. Cons ... I did have to trim back some of the dead cat hair as it would hang down over some of my lenses, especially on a windy day, but, really, that's a non-issue. And the dog thought it was a toy for him when it arrived ... that almost ended badly for the dead cat and the microphone inside it when I left it on my desktop. Lesson learned there. Bottom line ... it fits my Rode boom mike with room to spare. It works. It's worth the price. Hope this helps. ... show more

This covers my Rode Videomic great. It seems to work well in windy conditions and does exactly what it is suppose to do. The only downer is that it is a little more expensive than what I would have thought or liked to pay, but what can you do?

Despite what the name of the product is, this is not a real dead cat. I was hoping for an actual dead cat when I ordered this, but when I received the Deadcat Wind Muff, I actually realized, "Hey, I have a Rode NTG2 Microphone this would work on." So instead of giving a 1 star because it wasn't the dead cat I was looking for, it gets 5 stars for being a very functional wind muff. Only complaint is that some of the "fur" sheds. Keep it in a ziplock if you keep it with your gear or else you could get cat hair everywhere. Just like a real cat. ... show more

This was a total waste of money for me. It only likely fits Rode stuff but I did manage to squeeze it over my foam wind gag. It is very flimsy and the fake hair falls out constantly so watch your lens for stray hairs. It has no shap whatsoever - looks nothing like the picture - very flattened out and look like a squashed rat on the end of your mic. Honestly this is a really crap and over-price item which barely makes any difference at all. A dead cat would certainly work better than this fake one. ... show more

I have a Panasonic HPX-170 and an extreme fisheye, so when i chose out a shotgun mic it had to be a certain size so it would not come into view with the lens. I chose a phantom powered XLR input Azden mic. (SGM PDII) This rode wind muff popped up in related products to i figured it was the same size. i found out later it was a little bit too long, it comes into view , so either invest more money into a shockmount that hopefully works or give it a good haircut.
