  • Heavy-Duty Beast. Powers 13 Ceiling Speakers Like It’s Nothing!
The media could not be loaded. I was skeptical at first since the seller didn’t accept returns when I bought it, but wow… this thing is a heavy-duty BEAST! I have 13 ceiling speakers wired across 4 dual-channel zones, all running through the Rockville RockZone 8 multi-zone amplifier, and it handles everything effortlessly. The audio is clean, loud, and balanced across the house. It really makes multi-room audio feel simple! For music, I connected an Amazon Echo Dot via the 3.5mm AUX input, so I can stream Spotify. TIP: Set the Echo’s volume to 100% so the Rockville amp gets a full signal for better sound quality. You can still control volume from the Spotify app. PRO TIP: If your Echo is dedicated, you can create an Alexa routine to set its volume to 10 (100%) every morning, since it tends to reset sometimes. I tested: - Bluetooth (works fine, but I prefer AUX for better quality) - Microphone input (fun for karaoke) - AUX 1 & AUX 2 - Optical input (more below) But I haven’t tested USB, FM Radio, or Coaxial input, and probably won’t since the Alexa Echo Dot handles all my streaming needs. I hooked it up to my TV using the optical input. If you do the same, make sure your TV’s digital output is set to “PCM” or “Stereo”, otherwise, you won’t hear anything, just noise. After switching my Fire TV to PCM, it worked flawlessly. Is it home theater quality? No! But it's built for multi-zone, not as a home theater, and it’s shockingly good for non-audiophiles like myself. Movies and shows sound much better than expected. # Minor Notes - When the Rockville is on, the USB LED is always on (with nothing plugged in). Not a big deal, just odd, and it very well might be a defect on my unit, I don't know. Again, not a big issue since you can just plug the entire unit OFF, but odd nonetheless. - On startup, the amp restores the last volume level, but you can’t adjust volume until it finishes booting (takes ~5 seconds). If you had it loud before powering off, be ready! I made it a habit to lower the volume before shutting it down. - You can only mute via the remote, not from the front panel. - The remote uses infrared (IR), so you’ll need line-of-sight + if the amp is behind a cabinet door (like mine), you'll also need to open the door. TIP: If you also have an Alexa device hooked up + Spotify, you can increase or decrease the volume with Spotify, just know this might also reduce the quality of the sound. # Customer Service I contacted the seller when I had trouble getting optical to work. Even though I was outside the return window, they responded quickly and helped me get it resolved. Great customer service. # Final Thoughts If you’re building whole-home audio on a budget, this is it. Powerful, flexible, reliable, and honestly better than I expected at this price. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • This receiver rocks!
Bought this Rockville Rock Zone 8 receiver to replace an older Kenwood surround sound system that started to develop a constant buzz and a hum and eventually just died. This Rockville Rock Zone 8 is driving six surround sound speakers and a powered subwoofer and sounds absolutely fantastic! Easy to set up, love all the controls that you have, just the right features on the remote, and runs a lot cooler than anything else that I've had before in the past. Please note, that this unit is heavy so be careful when setting it up! ... show more

  • Great, but really bad hiss
Very powerful amp, powered 4 JBL 28-1’s and a 29AV at very loud volume with no problems, MAJOR DOWNSIDE IS THE HIGH END HISS, I don’t know if it’s the quality of the tweeters on these JBL’s, but there is a VERY noticeable high end hiss that plays through once the amp is turned on (even with the treble knob turned all the way down), it wasn’t the cable, replaced all wires and it still does it, the Bluetooth is awesome and the radio works really well, this thing is a monster, but man the hiss is very distracting, turning a fan on dissipated 90% of it, connected a sub, works extremely well, no low end hiss. If you are using this for outdoors then it won’t be a problem, using it for a small room and you will notice it ... show more

  • No Owner's Manual Available
Great amplifier. Works as advertised. I would have given it 5 stars except that both Amazon and Rockville web sites say that an owner's manual is included, which it is not. I emailed Rockville only to learn an owners manual is not available either online or hard copy. They directed me to a site with videos for setting up the amplifier. The videos are good videos, but they don't tell me anything about the bluetooth function, such as the history of the number of user devices that can be used and whether or not the oldest in the queue gets deleted or how to reset the bluetooth history. ... show more

  • Rock Solid
Sounds way better than a Juke Audio. Can't believe the audio guy installed the Juke instead of a Rockville. Less complicated as well.
