My wife recently purchased these skates. To be clear, she is not a competitive skater, but an avid enjoyer of getting out on the ice every winter. We now live in a place where there is a nearby lake that freezes over every winter and so she wanted to own skates that she has at the ready whenever the skating urge strikes. Also, given it's a lake, there kind of are not rental options around. She is a runner and wanted to make sure she got a higher quality pair skates that would support her ankles and wouldn't abrade her skin, etc. These are really nicely made for comfort and support, so they have fit the bill. The ankle area is much more nicely padded than we were used to expect from rentals as kids. The blade is super high quality and I suspect will last a long time before we need to find a place to get them sharpened. They also just have a look and feel of high quality construction overall. She did get one skate in at a local rink and found them surprisingly comfortable right out of the box. She is going to need to break them in a bit, of course, but a really good start with them the first go around. Perhaps these are overkill for her recreational needs, but this may very well be the last pair of skates she'll need to purchase. She can't wait for the winter now!

The BLACKS I ordered, in fact, are a true to size MEN'S, as hoped. And wow, are they an awesome set of skates with stainless blades. There is nothing about these that look, feel, nor hint at a beginner level they'll be (unfortunately? lol) used for...but I'm very athletic, and typically prefer quality in my gear and tools used for active events. In initial inspection and testing, I can tell they will take some 'breaking in' period, but unlikely to be uncomfortable in doing so. I have a mid-width foot that tends to feel just fine in a swoosh athletic shoe that requires I wear 13s for comfort while overworking my feet in movements expected...I wear 12.5s in other brands that tend to run a bit wider than swooshes. These 13 skates are VERY SNUG without overtightening the laces, but they are not uncomfortable, and I'd expect this to wonderfully 'mold' to my specific feet that allows for confident and predictable athletic movements as soon as I'm able to get 'em on the ice with my family. (I've never OWNED a set of ice skates, so having these will open superfluous access to seasonal skating for us all!) I have full confidence that these skates will outlast whatever I throw at them in my last half of an expected lifespan...and do so with style, comfort and reliability. As the set of WHITES come with some added bling, it's too bad the BLACKS don't come with something a li'l extra as well...but that's okay, and although these run past $150 for the pair, they seem thus far worth the price of admission (that no longer requires additional rental fees!)...see what I did there? :P

Beautiful white, grey + teal accent skates 1. True to size - Be warned that there is a small piece of paper in the toe of your skates that may have you thinking the sizing is way off - it’s not. I wear a 37 in Birkenstocks, and a 7 in dr. Martens. The size 7 ice skates were perfect after the toe paper was removed. 2. These have some bling. There are three gems on the back of each ankle, and a bar of gems at the toe of your laces. The ankle gems seem permanent, but the toe bar could probably be removed. 3. The boots do not come with a dust bag, or anything more than the temporary blade covers. If you’re giving these as a gift, I’d also get a pair of blade covers and a storage bag.

I ordered size 11 which is what I wear in most shoes. I also wear size 11 Bauer hockey skates that fit fine. But I could barely jam my foot into these. And yes I did remove all the paper from the toes of the boot. Clearly these are designed to be very tight up front, but I will never understand why some manufacturers think that having your foot squeezed so tight that the bones are scrunched and no blood can flow is somehow great for athletic endevours. I don’t buy Nike’s for the same reason. In addition, these arrived scuffed, even though they were clearly fresh from the manufacturer. Returning these and wont even try 12s cuz these are just to narrow.

When I first opened the package, one of the skates had a chip on the toe pick. When I brought it to my skate school to get it sharpened, they told me that one of the skates is bent and not straight. I’m really disappointed. They have it advertised for “competitive” figure skating and this isn’t the quality you’d expect for $190. I’m petite 5ft 110lbs with slightly wide feet (the area with the ball of my foot) and it hurt when I was practicing on them.

These skates are an excellent option for those who are not competitive, yet want a supportive boot. In my teens, I was a competitive figure skater with a high quality Riedell boot. Now that I just go to open skates with my children, I wanted a comfortable option without the high price tag. These skates did just that. There is plenty of ankle support and cushion all around. I was able to get them heat molded to my feet at my local rink, and they fit like a glove.
