I've been using the UtechSmart Large Extended Soft Led Mouse Pad for about a week now and I want to review it because I feel my experience might be a bit different from other reviewers. I'm very satisfied with my purchase, but I've used it in a different manner than I expected. Size: I purchased the UtechSmart RGB gaming pad for my primary gaming PC as I game a lot at night, but I didn't pay attention to the sizing. It's a little long for my under-the-desk sliding keyboard tray which measures just 25" long. I use an 87 key mechanical keyboard and a relatively narrow lighted gaming mouse to have room for both devices. I was hoping to use the gaming pad light to illuminate my keyboard when gaming in a low-lit room. I probably could have folded the gaming pad but was concerned that it would break the LED tubes. The device seems very durable but it would probably snap over time given enough pressure on a fold. Once I moved the gaming pad to my work desk (I work mostly from home) I really found my best use case for the device. I use an ergonomic keyboard (Microsoft 4000) and a Logitech MX wireless mouse there which makes for a pretty wide setup. The UtechSmart gaming pad was just the right size to actually extend my workspace more than I had previously. I've been using it a bit like an old fashioned blotter to keep things organized in my physical work space so that I keep common items (pens, laptops, notes, etc.) on its surface. The LED lights are a great way to delineate this space. Surface and feel: I purchased a very wide desktop mousing surface late in 2016 (measured something like three feet by one foot) and was never satisfied with it. The texture was always a bit slick, it slid on my desk, and it had a pervasive chemical smell that wouldn't go away. Moreover it was a dust magnet. I ended up moving that out to my workshop where I tried to use it to keep small machine screws, washers, screwdrivers, flashlights, spudgers and the like in place -- poorly. Everything slides around and anytime I set a drink on it, the thing would absorb condensation from the can and make the chemical smell worse. Even after almost two years, the smell has never gone away. When I opened the UtechSmart gaming pad I noticed that it has a completely different surface from what I've used before. It had a bit of the acrid chemical smell, which persisted for about four days and, I'm happy to report, has dissipated by 95% to the point where I can only smell it if I put my nose directly on it. Unlike my old pad, it doesn't easily absorb liquids--no condensation rings from momentarily setting down a can. The texture is really nice and keeps items in place much better than anything I've used in the past. It's not sticky, just highly textured nylon that keeps paper clips, screws, pens, keys, and my keyboard in place while still providing a supple surface for my mouse to glide across with very little effort. It doesn't seem to attract dust and when I dropped cracker crumbs all over it, the surface wiped up with a damp paper towel with no discoloration or residual grittiness. It also does not slide on the glass top of my desk, which is great compared to all of my previous mouse pads. Construction: As noted above, the surface is the most satisfying one I've used, and I'm quite particular about mousepads. I've used a memory foam wrist rest for years but after a week of enjoying the soft surface on this UtechSmart pad, I may not go back to them. It has quite a bit of a squishy feel to cushion your wrist if you, like me, tend to rest your wrists when you pause typing. The gaming pad comes with a microUSB cable (braided) that is almost five feet long, long enough to stretch from the edge of your desk over to the far side if you have an L-shaped desk as I do. I like the fact that it's detached and could be replaced with a microUSB to USB A cable of your own if you needed it to stretch farther. Most items I've seen like this would have the cable built in and it would be a fail point for the lighting. The plastic plug where the cable meets the pad is constructed in a very solid manner as you can see from the pictures others have posted. I can't see a place where it could easily separate and break at all, which is good news for the product's longevity. The lighting is very uniform and narrow just around the edges, like piping on a jacket. There are no drivers needed for the LED lighting to operate (which is great for me since I use a variety of operating systems in my work). There is only a single button to press to change the lighting. The pattern goes from OFF to rotating through the various colors every 8 seconds or so to a three color mode. A fourth press of the button moves to solid red, a fifth to solid electric blue, a sixth to an emerald green, a seventh to fuchsia, an eighth to a sky blue, a ninth to a muted yellow, a tenth to an off white pink, and an eleventh to rotating all the colors around the edges at once. The twelfth rotates through all the colors about every three seconds; the thirteenth rotates through three colors at a time in a flashing pattern, the fourteenth rotates through four colors at once in a flashing fashion, and the fifteenth goes back to no lighting. The lighting is not distracting (the flashing is not sudden except in the last couple of modes) nor is it too bright in my opinion. It seems just the right light to illuminate my Microsoft Natural 4000 keyboard if I have no other lighting in my office. Overall, I feel this is safely a five star review for UtechSmart RGB gaming mouse pad due to it's very utilitarian approach to a device that some might see as a luxury. It's well worth the price I paid to help me create a completely different work environment without having to spend a lot of money on desk lamps, lighted keyboards, or mice. ... show more

Pretty good budget product that makes your setup look a lot cleaner and cooler for color specific set ups. Mine is red and fits in perfectly. The material of the mousepad is pretty good and the LEDs are quite bright and have multiple options

This review is for one week of use. Will update if things change. The item came supper fast even when projected to arrive in May. It came 2 days after ordering. Boxing was undamaged, cool looking and a professional presentation with neat graphics on the box, not plain brown boxed, and gave an instant quality impression. Item was not rolled too tight in the box and the pad laid out flat immediately save for 2-3 very small waves in the front which flattened out in 1-2 days just by laying on the desk. Pros: 1. Single USB power connection to PC that will even stay on after PC shut off if I desire. This maybe more of a PC power setting but I like that the pad allows for that. 2. Single button is very responsive, clicks properly and have had no problems turning off/on or changing modes. All modes work flawlessly and I love the 2 brightness modes. None of the other similar RGB pads had the extra brightness setting and other model reviews complained about brightness in well lit rooms. Not the case on this one plenty, bright in a well lit room right next to a double window that receives sun all day. 3. Color appears uniform with the exception of the dull yellow color which is ugly anyways. There is a brighter color over shine on each side of the control port about 1/4 inch on each side but that's just same color over shine from where the LED is, it's normal for the technology. 4. The Pad itself feels awesome, very smooth, mouse glides overtop very well. 5. Professionally designed/printed box adds nice impression. Not some cheep brown box. 6. Instructions were very simple, easy to follow and provided all the need to know for setup and use. Cons: None to report at this time except beard hair does stick to it really well will require occasional cleaning. Other thoughts: I would Recommend this item and I would order again but would like to see it in a XXL size. The XL size I have is fine and fits perfectly but more is better I and would have ordered the slightly larger one if available. ... show more

    • Certainly a 5 Star Product.. But.....

All things considered this product has met or exceeded my expectations. Its large, comfortable, easy to clean... and the RGB functions on it are bright and nice and easy to change or turn off... Not to mention there are tons of options for colors and patterns.... The only thing I wish was different, and why I said "but" is that being USB powered; which i am using a PC USB port for mine; I do wish this pad along with other UtechSmart products i own were able to be synced and RGB controlled using the software on my PC, ie: asus aura, razer chroma, or other rgb softwares. Understandable that they are more a cost based option and drive the price up more of the product but this as well as other products I own from the company have all been 100% amazing and with really nice RGB colors, however that is still a limitation because certain products I own of other brands can be synced but these ones can only end up close if not different in the end. Not a deal breaker.... function, quality, use, reliability are all 5 stars and an A+ product much like all of their products... just would be nice to see them maybe incorporate that in the future (fingers crossed) ... show more
