I try a lot of notebooks, some for sketching, but most often for daily journaling. These are some of the best I've found for notes/journaling. I tried these because of a discussion about bleed-through. The pack of two was handy; I could always give one away if I didn't like one. I tried the following writing devices, in the order I usually use them. 1) Pentel EnerGel Deluxe RTX Retractable Liquid Gel Pen, 0.5mm, Needle Tip, Black Ink, 2) STAEDTLER PIGMENT LINER 0.3mm BLACK INK, 3) Lamy Safari Fountain Pen - Charcoal - Fine, with new black cartridge, and 4) Pentel Arts Pocket Brush Pen. I expected the first three to do well, but I assumed that the brush pen would bleed. Not so! They all wrote well and did not bleed. If you hold the page up to the light the brush writing has a touch of ghosting, but tolerable for me. The fountain pen was exceptionally smooth. The construction seems very good, lays nearly flat, and has two ribbons for markers. A pocket is placed in the back in the back along with four separators to affix as one chooses. College-ruled provides enough space for writing without being cramped. So: good for writing, good for quality, good for features. ... show more

A rock-solid notebook—it is my go-to for a journal. Today, I am starting my sixth one in just over two years and remain very happy with them. They hold up well being tossed in a bag every day, and they lay flat for hours at a time without any spine issues. The only modification I make is adding a small sheet of paper to act as a line template to keep my writing neat. Even with heavy black Sharpie lines on that template, there is only faint ghosting through the page and I use that to keep my writing even. (Then turn the page, place the guide, and start another neat entry - perfect.) While I can't speak to how the paper handles every pen type, it is flawless with Pilot G2 gel pens. This is the perfect size if you already use 5×8 Field Notes (or similar notebooks); they complement each other perfectly. I came back this morning to order two more so I have them ready on the shelf for next time. ... show more

These notebooks are well-made and feel sturdy. The leather covers look professional, and the paper is thick enough to prevent bleed-through from most pens. The numbered pages and built-in ribbon are a nice touch. My only complaint is that the covers are a bit stiff at first and take some breaking in. Original rating 2 Stars: Cover quality is good and the paper is thick and good or fountain pen ink. However, the binding quality is questionable. Some of the pages cannot lay flat since the binding not centered, so the durability is very questionable. 12/31 Update: 5 Stars I am searching for a journal book for the new year. Compare to Moleskine, Rhodia and Midori. My fountain pens nibs flow buttery smooth on RETTACY 120 GSM paper without any smearing or ghosting. In considering the price I pay for this set, this is a five star product and a keeper! Furthermore, this set comes with an inner pocket with two stencils. The two ribbon bookmark added to the functionality of this journal book, which you cannot find them on other "name branded" notebooks. the above mentioned really put this up to 5 Stars and I will definitely purchase this again. Last but not least, the seller reached out to me right after reading my review and offer a refund. I requested a replacement set for proper review instead. The customer service deserve mentioning. I would have given this a 5+ stars if possible. Unless you are the loyal fans on the above three mentioned brands, you should really try this for yourself.
