  • Nice simple to set up package.
Style: Mobile Radio+ Antenna
This is a good radio for the price. The included antenna works well. I am consistently getting into repeaters from 30miles away. Receives clear enough. For the price it is great to have and keep in a vehicle. I did have to adjust the settings to get it to accept more frequencies/bands. Programmed with CHIRP easily with the INCLUDED CABLE. I ordered a programming cable separately because the specifications didn't list it as coming with one. It did in fact come with the appropriate cable. ... show more

  • Great Audio Reports
Style: Mobile Radio
I wanted a simple mobile dual band for my vehiche so I didn't have to deal with hand held HTs in my car. Overall quality and feels is very good. Receive audio is great and folks on the other end of my transmissions report "loud and clear". Programming is fairly straight forward and since you can use Chirp, adding my channels was a breeze. The only issue I had was an initial report of a good carrier and weak audio. Checking I found there is no mic gain in the menu, but after a web search found there is a firmware update which included that option. More research made e realize that using narrow band vs wide band setting can have a big affect on your transmission audio quality depending on the repeater. I changed from narrow to wide band in the menu and the audio quality through the 2 meter repeater I was using was loud and clear. The units factory default settings on mine were "narrow" so be sure and check your setting to ensure the match your needs. For the price this is nice little radio and pre-purchase research found no real negatives or cons. I'd recommend the RT-95 and would buy again. If you need a nice little dual band and 25 watts is sufficient, this unit should be fine for mobile or even a beginner base unit. ... show more

  • I now have three of these. 1 is a base station and 1 in each vehicle.
Style: Mobile Radio
Cons: If you are running a net, put a small fan on it because it will get fairly hot. I wish there was a volume knob (I use the main knob for tuning). Pros: Price, Performance, audio quality, build quality, programmable buttons on both the radio and the hand mike, microphone "may" be used as a speaker mike, 200 channels, and on an on. This thing is so flexible and easy to "open" to things like GMRS bands. I LOVE this radio. Program the buttons the way you want and you will love it too. ... show more

  • Pretty good for a budget dual band radio
Style: Mobile Radio
Upon opening the box I got a surprise... although it is not mentioned in the product description, the one I received included the programming cable. First thing you need to do after powering it on, is to check what ITU Region frequency configuration the radio came with. The mode may or may not need to be changed, it all depends how it left the factory. Mine was set for ITU01, which is incorrect for the USA and the frequency boundaries for VHF/UHF will be wrong. There are instruction videos on YouTube on how to do this, they usually have "jail break" or "unlock" in the video title, but it's a fairly simple process to perform: 1) Power up the radio by holding down the red power button, the FUNC button and the P4 button all at the same time until "TEST MODE RT95" appears, and then release the buttons. 2) The middle display line will show what looks like a channel number (CH-xxx), but that is the setting menu number. Turn the channel knob until CH-043 appears, and you will see MODE. 3) To change the mode, the microphone PTT button down and turn the channel knob to change the mode to MODE:02. Turn off the radio, then turn it back on and it should be in MODE 02, to check just do steps 1 & 2 again to check the mode, and if correct, turn the radio off/on. Now it's ready to program. Despite what other reviews say, this radio does indeed work with CHIRP. Display is nice, bright and easy to read. Still learning the in's and out's of navigating the settings and how to change them with the various buttons, which can be a lesson in frustration. There are somethings that might need "tweaking", there's been reports of low or muddy audio on receiving radios... the issue is with the mic hole on the top middle of the mic face being misaligned with the mic element. The fix is to slightly enlarge the hole... videos on YouTube for that too, and it's easy. I've made a few 2 meter repeater contacts, and a few 2 meter simplex contacts... all works to my satisfaction. Reception reports have been very good to excellent, no issue with the audio. Overall, for the price, this is a decent radio... ideal for making a portable "go box" with it. ... show more
