  • A Feature-Packed Powerhouse for Ham Enthusiasts!
Style: Mobile Radio
I recently added the Retevis RT95 Mobile Ham Radio to my setup, and I couldn't be more pleased with its performance and array of features! This dual-band mobile transceiver is an absolute gem for both seasoned operators and those looking to get into mobile ham radio. The audio quality, both transmitting and receiving, is exceptionally clear, especially with the thoughtful dual speaker design. This significantly enhances the listening experience, whether you're monitoring two frequencies or just enjoying crystal-clear audio from one. The rotatable LCD display is a surprisingly useful feature. It allowed me to mount the radio in my vehicle exactly where I wanted it without compromising visibility, a huge plus for custom installations. The display itself is bright and easy to read, even in varying light conditions. One of the standout features for me is the CHIRP compatibility. This makes programming frequencies, memories, and settings incredibly simple and fast. No more tedious manual programming – just connect, upload, and you're ready to go. This alone saves a tremendous amount of time and frustration. The build quality feels solid, and the included cable makes for straightforward installation. For its price point, the RT95 punches well above its weight, offering robust performance as a ham radio base station or a mobile transceiver. Whether you're hitting the trails, commuting, or setting up a compact base station, the Retevis RT95 delivers reliable communication, user-friendly features, and excellent audio. It's a highly capable and enjoyable radio that I wholeheartedly recommend! ... show more

  • Great for first timers, or mobile
Style: Mobile Radio
Wonderful little radio, much smaller than I expected but works good, sounds good and for a good price. I highly recommend the RT95 as a mobile or base unit as the 25watts of power is very decent for the units size and price. For mobile use it's perfect because it weighs about as much as two HT's, and combined with a yagi can be used in a chest rig with a battery for some very good outdoor fun. I will update as I use it more but so far, the bright display, and ease of use will have me playing with it for a long time. ... show more

  • Great radio.
Style: Mobile Radio
I'm getting close to two years using RT95 radios, and this was the second one I purchased. This is identical, as far as I can tell, to the Anytone AT-778UVII. There is nothing else in this price range that I would recommend. Programming on the radio has a bit of a learning curve, but so does every radio. Programming in CHIRP is easy, but you do need the special programming cable. You can also reprogram the P1-P6 buttons on the front panel and the PA-PD button on the mic to your liking. I also have a friend with the same radio, so I know that transmit and receive audio quality is good. Note: from the factory, the radio is set up in a way that limits the bands, typical of non-US countries, to 144-146MHz and 430~440MHz (i.e., you can't use the 146.52 and 446.00 simplex call frequencies), but this is an easy fix. YouTube is your friend. The size and appearance are also quite nice. This radio will fit almost anywhere. ... show more

  • I now have three of these. 1 is a base station and 1 in each vehicle.
Style: Mobile Radio
Cons: If you are running a net, put a small fan on it because it will get fairly hot. I wish there was a volume knob (I use the main knob for tuning). Pros: Price, Performance, audio quality, build quality, programmable buttons on both the radio and the hand mike, microphone "may" be used as a speaker mike, 200 channels, and on an on. This thing is so flexible and easy to "open" to things like GMRS bands. I LOVE this radio. Program the buttons the way you want and you will love it too. ... show more

  • Pretty good for a budget dual band radio
Style: Mobile Radio
Upon opening the box I got a surprise... although it is not mentioned in the product description, the one I received included the programming cable. First thing you need to do after powering it on, is to check what ITU Region frequency configuration the radio came with. The mode may or may not need to be changed, it all depends how it left the factory. Mine was set for ITU01, which is incorrect for the USA and the frequency boundaries for VHF/UHF will be wrong. There are instruction videos on YouTube on how to do this, they usually have "jail break" or "unlock" in the video title, but it's a fairly simple process to perform: 1) Power up the radio by holding down the red power button, the FUNC button and the P4 button all at the same time until "TEST MODE RT95" appears, and then release the buttons. 2) The middle display line will show what looks like a channel number (CH-xxx), but that is the setting menu number. Turn the channel knob until CH-043 appears, and you will see MODE. 3) To change the mode, the microphone PTT button down and turn the channel knob to change the mode to MODE:02. Turn off the radio, then turn it back on and it should be in MODE 02, to check just do steps 1 & 2 again to check the mode, and if correct, turn the radio off/on. Now it's ready to program. Despite what other reviews say, this radio does indeed work with CHIRP. Display is nice, bright and easy to read. Still learning the in's and out's of navigating the settings and how to change them with the various buttons, which can be a lesson in frustration. There are somethings that might need "tweaking", there's been reports of low or muddy audio on receiving radios... the issue is with the mic hole on the top middle of the mic face being misaligned with the mic element. The fix is to slightly enlarge the hole... videos on YouTube for that too, and it's easy. I've made a few 2 meter repeater contacts, and a few 2 meter simplex contacts... all works to my satisfaction. Reception reports have been very good to excellent, no issue with the audio. Overall, for the price, this is a decent radio... ideal for making a portable "go box" with it. ... show more

Great radio for the price! I found it two work well. I can hit local repeaters with no problem. Learning curve to program just watch some videos and it’s not bad. I may buy more of these.

  • I wanted to like the RT95
Style: Mobile Radio
I really wanted to love this radio, i gave it way more chances then i should have. The CPS programming software and/or chirp both sucks. 100% of the time you try to upload a csv from the base config that you edited and it fails with errors, 98% of the time it fails with the exported base cvs with no modifications, other wise you have to enter each indiv freq in there either through the program or on the device. Since the CPS software wasn't working, i manually added my freqs, took forever. got it going, took a day of work. Spent an entire day just to hear static and a mess of sound. swapped over to my handheld, instant clarity and picking up way more then the rt95, swapped back thinking i just missed something, nothing. garbled mess if i picked anything up. well maybe its my antenna, went to a buddies house with a completely different set up and a huge hammer he is, with a 100ft tower, it picked up nothing while his handheld was getting everything even on the same channels. absolutely nothing worked on this radio ... show more
