I really wish these were MURS but theywork for my family. I wanted radios that my kids could use and be future proof. The rugged housing allows them to play with them without worry of having to replace every week and the giant PTT makes it hard to fail to operate. Locking the settings is also great for ensuring uninterrupted communication. I can't speak to range or longevity but like all FRS radios I imagine they are subject to the same physics that other FRS radios are and I appreciate the lithium batteries that last long enough to not have to charge every day. Was helping my son do a oil change on his car with the Walkie Talkie on my hip. As I bent over to pick up the pan of oil the Walkie Talkie fall into the pan of oil. After cleaning it with water, alcohol, and electrical contact cleaner; It is working great. Definitely well made and waterproof. Now for the bad: Several days after receiving Walkie Talkies nd before the oil bath I was connecting the duel charge cable into the Walkie Talkies . The charge cable was plugged into the power outlet and I had no problem plugging one side of the duel cable into the Walkie Talkie. When I started to plug in the second Walkie Talkies into the other half of the duel charge cable I found the metal end to be so hot it burned my fingers. Tried this with both Walkie Talkies unplugged and found that the one metal end stayed cool and the other was to hot to handle. Both ends on the charge cable now stay cool but one wont plug into the Walkie Talkies .Now I use my Kindle Charge Cable to charge the Walkie Talkies . ... show more

These things work great! I used them to communicate with our group at our cabin along the Frio River. These reached from Comanche Crossing to Neal’s to get a ride back. That is about 1.8 miles through large hills and valleys. I’m going to buy a couple of more for next year. They got wet and had little problems - when water gets on the speaker they get a little quiet until the water is gone which wasn’t an issue. I had a Baofeng radios last year and they failed when they got wet. ... show more

Works well at close distances. Used for wife and I heading on a 1000 mile trip in separate cars. Do need to try all channels first. Channel 1 was usually poor but higher channels always worked. Highly recommended!
