  • Great moisturizer
I was looking for a facial oil that wouldn't break ne out but mainly moisturize. It doesn't do anything dramatic to my face other than the moisturizing part. Definitely recommend though

  • Fragrance Free, won't irritate sensitive/reactive skin
The media could not be loaded. I have very reactive, sensitive skin. It seems to only be getting worse as I get older, which is frustrating because I'm finding that I can't tolerate some products that I was able to tolerate a few years ago. I struggle with acne, seborrheic dermatitis, eczema, and dry skin. I used to think that my issues were hormonal or stress related but I've learned that it's a skin barrier issue and that my skin is very sensitive to the environment (hard water, dry air) and many products compromise my skin barrier making it prone to those other issues. I spent so much money trying "medical grade skincare" only to have my issues flare up because of the harsh ingredients. I have since cut out almost all products that have unnecessary added ingredients like fragrances or botanical extracts. I read ingredient labels religiously and am skeptical of any claims that aren't backed up by solid research. I feel like I found a real gem with this oil blend. Before trying this REN Barrier Support Elixer, I was using pure jojoba oil to soothe/heal irritated areas of my face. I don't use oils as a moisturizer, that's not really what they're good for. I use them as a skin barrier supplement (especially for wounded skin) and they layer a moisturizer on top of them. I find that even with the most gentle cleansers, my skin loses some natural oils and I want to replace that before layering anything else on. I use the REN oil blend after cleansing and applying my azelaic acid prescription. I warm a few drops between my hands and press my palms into my face. I sometimes apply a little more on areas of my skin that are chapped/broken out because I do find the oil to be healing. I will then layer with an occlusive moisturizer (petrolatum based) at night or an spf during the day. I haven't had any kind of reaction to this product at all and I do think it helps calm my skin. I wouldn't say it's a treatment for anything specific, but I do think that it is very useful in repairing a compromised skin barrier. Regarding the ingredients, the common names for the ingredients listed are: rice bran oil, camelina oil, sacha inchi oil, camellia japonica (Tsubaki) oil, meadowfoam seed oil, rose hip oil, bisabolol (usually from chamomile), and vitamin E (listed last on the list). Out of everything listed I was most concerned about the vitamin E, but it's such a small amount that I didn't have any issues with it at all. I think this is an excellent product for someone like me who has very sensitive and reactive skin due to a compromised skin barrier. It will help restore the skin barrier without irritating the skin further. It's not a moisturizer, so if you are using it for that purpose you might be disappointed. ... show more

  • Can be used as a standalone moisturizer
Ren is a very respected, clean skincare line. I've used other products from the line in the past so was excited to give this product a try. This dry oil is light & unscented. It can be used as a standalone moisturizer in my skincare routine, which is pretty rare since I have combo/dry skin. I usually use oils on top of other moisturizers. The elixir does a great job moisturizing and I think the barrier support claim is true. I had a small reaction on my cheek that was red and itchy. I applied this elixir on the area for 5 nights straight and it seemed to calm down the redness immediately. Very soothing. I will keep this elixir on hand for days when my skin is acting up. Recommended if you like unscented products with clean ingredients that is gentle on your skin! ... show more

  • Better, less costly oil-based serums exist
While this product is better than most non-oil-based serums I've tried, my experience with this product has been rather disappointing, especially given the cost. The only reason I ordered this product is because I've had such good experiences with oil-based serums in recent months, and several types of oils are listed in the ingredients: oryza sativa bran oil, oryza sativa germ oil, camelina sativa seed oil, plukenetia volubilis seed oil, camellia japonica seed oil, limnanthes alba seed oil, and rosa canina fruit oil. Admittedly, most of these oils aren't used in some of the other great oil-based serums I've tried, but generally speaking a heavy presence of oils has typically resulted in good results, so I thought I'd try out this one as well. Unfortunately, I discounted the fact that the first ingredient by volume, "caprylic/capric triglyceride", isn't an oil, and it's unknown as to what weight this ingredient holds relative to the lesser ingredients. Based on some light research, it appears that this ingredient is typically made by combining coconut oil with glycerin, and coconut oil is definitely not present in my favorite oil-based serums. Yes, some of my favorites also contain camellia japonica seed oil and rosa canina fruit oil like this product, but both of these contribute relatively low volumes relative to the rest of the ingredients. Osmia Organics Restore and Averr Aglow Forever Radiant Essential Renewing Serum are my favorite oil-based serums, but these also come at a high cost. If you're interested in an oil-based serum and cannot afford these, I suggest MONA Mother Nature's Innovation rose facial oil, which is currently $10 less per ounce than this REN Clean Skincare Evercalm Barrier Support Elixir, and has provided significantly better results for me, even though I've rated both products four stars. ... show more

  • Easy to apply dry-touch oil
REN Evercalm Barrier Support Elixir is a dry-touch oil that is easy to apply using the dropper. I have dry, sensitive, rosacea prone skin and am always on the hunt for a gentle product that will help me keep my skin calm, comfortable and hydrated day and night, especially as the drier months come in. I've only been using this a week and I haven't seen significant improvements but it has not irritated my skin. I've been applying it to the back of my hands at night before I put on my hand cream, and have seen more improvement there than on my face. A little goes a long way so the bottle should last the fall/winter. ... show more
