  • Seems wonderful, weighty, large, long and elegant for the price.

Update - 02-07-2022 Been using this set daily for 6 years now. The set has been almost entirely cleaned using a dishwasher, with the dry cycle turned off. At times a stray spoon or fork was submerged in water for a couple of days; I was more careful with the knives as the blades aren't 18/10. The set looks close to brand new - zero rust, ever. Looking very closely at the utensils, the surfaces all seem slightly "used", in that there are very small shallow marks as if they banged around in a dishwasher, which they did. I'm sure if I polished them very quickly, they'd look like they just came out of the box. I expect these to last for a few more decades. Original Review - So far so good. All the pieces were somewhat larger and more solid than I expected, with perhaps the small exception of the teaspoons; the handle I've found a bit short relative to the bowl. It is the only part of the entire set I've found a bit 'off' design-wise, but not too noticeable. Other than that, I've had no issues with any of the pieces I've used, they same quite long, again, solid, well-balanced, simple, elegant, and fairly timeless. I've found them comfortable to use, and feel they are a huge step up in quality from my last set. So far, I've found them uniformly well finished, with the stated mirror finish and no rough edges discovered as of yet. I've hand washed them and let them air dry, and also put them in the dish washer, (/w no drying cycle), and have not noticed any spotting other than slight water spotting that would occur with any flatware, which could be buffed off in a second with a damp cloth. There has been no permanent discoloration at all, even when used with tomato sauces, etc. One caveat is that I haven't used the knives much yet. I do believe the blades are indeed not 18/10 stainless, whereas the handles still are. That is how they were described in the included reading material. I have used the knives a few times though, and have not yet noticed any wear or permanent discoloration. Another note on the knives, though it is hard to see on the product page, they are micro-serrated, and so it might be possible to use them on meat. I however have a good steak knife set and that is why I haven't used the knives as much as the other pieces. Overall, I find this set of high quality: well weighted, well designed, aesthetically pleasing, and seemingly very durable, for a very good price. (Each piece is discreetly stamped in a very small font with, "© REED & BARTON, 18/10 STAINLESS, CHINA" in 3 lines. It is actually so small as to be very hard to see. The knives state, "© REED & BARTON, 18/10 STAINLESS HANDLE, CHINA") ... show more

  • Reed and Barton flatware
Style: Crescendo
This is a beautiful flatware set. It replaces another Reed and Barton set that some of the pieces disappeared from over time. It is a similar pattern, lighter in weight, and perfect for everyday use.

  • Great design
Style: Palmer
I waited 25 years to replace our wedding cutlery and this set was well worth the wait. I've been looking for forks that actually come to a point so that they pierce a piece of lettuce and these are perfect. I also wanted table spoons and soup spoons that are tapered at the edge and are sized well -- the soup spoons from our last set were so oversized, that they could only be used as serving spoons. The cutlery is holding up well in the dishwasher and all of the pieces feel sturdy. We're very happy with our purchase! ... show more

  • Poor quality - not the Reed and Barton of old (knives stain easily)
Style: Cole
Do not buy this set. Due to poor quality and cheap manufacturing, the knives will stain almost immediately. We've had Reed & Barton for 28 years and loved them. We replaced our set due to losing a few spoons and forks over the years. Within a month of buying the new set, the knives started to get brown stains on them (oxidation). We contacted Lenox to replace the 12 knives. I’ve worked to remove the brown stains multiple times and they just keep coming back. We told them we've owned Reed & Barton sets for 28 years. This is the first set that has done this, and only the knives. We’ve only used this set for 6 months and they need replacing. It’s difficult to show all the brown on the knives in the photos since they are highly reflective surfaces, but hopefully you can see some of them. For reference, since replacing our old Reed & Barton set, we’ve not changed our water, or dishwasher, or detergent. We’ve been in the same house for 20 years and nothing has changed except replacing our old Reed & Barton set with this new one. In fact, we’ve gone back to using our old set of knives with our new set of everything else. Lenox says it's not a defect. Staining is normal. I am now back to using the 28 year old knives because the new ones look terrible. I am now using these old knives in the same dishwasher with the same water and the same detergent, and they look great. No discoloration, no rust. Their “stainless” is stained, and continues to stain, and that is a defect for something called “stainless”. ... show more
