I'm not sure why Ford did not include a trailer controller as part of the towing package on these trucks. They do on the F150's... Installation is not hard -- don't be overwhelmed by the idea of having to splice into your trailer harness to make this work. It's not bad if you have the towing package, because you have wires attached to the bundle near your left knee ready to go. If you search the Ranger forums for how to install this controller, you can get pictures, etc... Note that on the 2019 Ranger, the Blue wire is... well... Blue. This unit was manufactured in Australia for the Australian Ranger. Also, this is the same unit the Ford Dealer in my town was going to install in my truck but for a price much higher than Amazon provides. Put your truck in Drive Put on your parking brake Unhook your battery before starting your work Wire loom matching: a) White goes to Redarc harness... well to White b) Blue (thick wire) goes to Redarc harness... well to Blue c) White/Violet to Redarc harness Red d) Yellow/Orange (thick wire) goes to Redarc harness Black I've attached pictures that show where the wiring bundle is, where I placed the proportional controller box and where I mounted the switch on my console. Everything is straight forward except for what I had to do to mount my switch. a) Had to take out floor panel all the way. b) Drill your holes in a location where the Redarc switch will miss all other items (big hint here -- since I didn't have mm drill bits, I used the closest SAE. i) My switch and Led holes were too small. Need to round them out carefully. ii) If the led hole actually penetrates into the switch hole, don't worry. You won't see it after intstall c) On the back of the floor panel, you will need to trim out the ribs. Take your time as the switch does need to sit flush on the panel d) Install the switch following directions EXCEPT, don't install the white washer with pointer. The panel will be too thick for that to work. Don't worry -- the led on the switch will shine through. Other than that, everything was very, very straight forward. ... show more

This brake controller is awesome. It is easy to use, install and simply works. My old controller seemed to keep the brakes on my trailer locked, this one I can hardly tell I am towing. Once you get it set, it treats your tow vehicle and trailer as one. I love this unit and will continue to recommend this to others who need a top notch low cost brake controller. REDARC, job well done !!!!! UPDATE: We have had this controller for a little while now and have had no issues at all. We had one emergency braking situation and she handled like a dream as if the trailer was not even part of the vehicle. I did and still HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS CONTROLLER!!! Didn't want to put in a bulky brake controller hanging from the dash. This was the only controller that offered a clean OEM look without requiring a lot of space to install. On the Rubicon it was really hard to find a place to install where it was easy to reach will driving. Ended up in the center console. There is a wire clipped underneath where it is installed, but I was able to push it out of the clip to make room. Another reviewer recommended practicing on Tupperware to get the holes just right - that is a BRILLIANT idea, thank you. Took a few tries to get it right, but better than screwing it up when drilling our dash. The module is mounted directly under the steering wheel behind that panel you can pull off easily. See learning took few minutes driving around the block. Hooked up my trailer and it immediately worked with no issues. Easy to adjust and use. Also, placed my biggest double wall cup in the holder and you can see there is still lots of space to reach it and it doesn't touch the cup. *UPDATE AFTER INSTALL AT BOTTOM* I have not installed the controller yet. However, I will say. Out of the box I am impressed. The controller feels like a quality product. The product description does not do a good enough job of showing just how compact, well thought out and not cheap, for lack of a better term, the control knob is. On first sight. It is leaps and bounds ahead of the old knee knocker brake controllers. Can't wait to install it and update after this weekend. *UPDATE* Unit installed and works perfectly. The super slim button is great. The wire harness is heavy gauge and is made of quality wire. It's truly plug and play. It auto calibrated. I installed it. Connected my trailer and I was in the road with confidence. Love it. ... show more

I have this brake controller installed in my 2017 Tacoma. I also purchased the tekumsah brake controller wiring harness which I had to cut the wires and splice the two harnesses together which is why it loses a star for installation. But honestly, the wire colors all match up and the only cutting splicing you have to do is in the harnesses not in the truck which is the most important for me. Because they designed the dial to be separate from the main module it can be placed up in the dash out of the way. The small, well designed control knob makes the installation look like it came with the truck from the factory. I also purchased a insert for the little cubby which was made for this truck and this brake controller which came out incredible and gave me two more switch slots! The controller is easy to dial in so much that you forget you have a trailer behind you when braking. I wouldn’t buy any other product in the future! ... show more
