I’ve been wearing the Silversmith boots regularly, and they have the solid, well-made feel I expect from a good leather boot. The full-grain leather is thick and sturdy, and I like the classic shape because it works just as well with jeans as it does with a more casual outfit. They are definitely a boot that needs some breaking in. When I first put them on, the leather felt fairly stiff around my ankles and the boots were heavier than the everyday shoes I’m used to. After wearing them for shorter periods and gradually increasing the time, they became much more comfortable. Make sure you get the correct size. These do run pretty true to size and I got the same size as my tennis shoes. Maybe 1/2 size smaller. The Goodyear welt construction is a nice feature if you’re looking for something built for long-term wear, and the Vibram 430 mini lug outsole gives them good traction without making them look like heavy-duty work boots. I also like the fact that the sole feels sturdy while still being relatively low-profile. The only slight complaint is that the tread isn’t quite centered. My main advice would be to pay attention to sizing to make sure you get the right fit and give yourself time to break them in. They aren’t the type of boot I’d buy expecting instant sneaker-like comfort. Once they’re broken in, though, they feel much more natural on my feet. I love the Copper Rough and a tough color that will only get better with age and wear. I like the real leather because they breathe naturally, but are warmer in winter. Overall, I’m happy with them. They’re sturdy, versatile, and have the kind of classic leather look that should age nicely with regular wear. Definitely more of an investment than a typical fashion boot, but the construction makes them feel like a pair I can keep for a long time. ... show more

These Red Wing Shoes Heritage Silversmith Women Boots are absolutely gorgeous. The Full grain leather, leather laces and hand stitching are beautiful, sturdy and soft, yet strong from the moment you open the box, and the Handmade In America quality is strikingly obvious. There is a reason that these boots cost what they do, and they will very plainly last a lifetime with proper care and treatment. The black leather and silver appliances give a wonderful, gleaming appearance, and will match any outfit they are paired with, whether jeans and a sweater, dress and tights, hiking wear, whatever you choose. As far as being water resistant, I personally would opt to buy a good quality weatherproofing spray to apply to these (preferably from Red Wing's own product line) before venturing out into the wet mucky weather in them. Now comes my one huge frustration and issue with these boots. I measured my feet, carefully researched the productsize chart, line and the history of how each boot model has fit others in the past, and decided to order my standard size of 8.5. This was a big mistake. I am now kicking myself, because the boots will absolutely not fit my feet, and I should have ordered at least a half size up, if not a whole size. I am unsure how I will personally resolve this, but I am so sad to be out of a pair of gorgeous Red Wing Silversmiths due to this difficult sizing issue.     • Exceptional Quality and Absolutely Gorgeous Leather

These are quite possibly the highest quality shoes I have ever put on my feet. I was impressed as soon as I took them out of the box. The full grain leather is absolutely beautiful and substantial, and the construction is top notch. These feel like true heritage boots that are designed to be worn for years rather than something that will only last a season or two. I absolutely love the look of them. They definitely have that traditional rugged work boot influence, but the shape is refined enough that they do not feel overly masculine or bulky. I actually think that contrast is part of what makes them so good. I wear dresses and skirts frequently, and I fully intend to rock these with skirts once the cooler weather arrives. I think they will look fantastic paired with something more feminine. There are so many little details that contribute to the quality, from the stitching and hardware to the substantial sole and overall structure of the boot. The leather feels incredible and is the kind that should only get better looking as it breaks in and develops character over time. I also really appreciate that they use Goodyear welt construction and can eventually be resoled. At this quality level, these are boots worth maintaining rather than replacing. They are certainly more substantial than an inexpensive fashion boot, but that is exactly what I expected from this style. Everything about them feels thoughtfully constructed and durable. I am genuinely so impressed with these. They manage to be rugged, beautifully made and stylish at the same time. I ordered these Red Wing Silversmith boots after wanting a pair that looked sharp but could also handle real everyday use. The first thing I noticed was the leather. It is thick, smooth, and has that rich real leather feel and smell that tells you these are not made from flimsy materials. The craftsmanship is excellent. The stitching is clean, the eyelets feel solid, and the sole has a sturdy grip without making the boots look bulky. I wore them around town one weekend, then ended up spending much more time on my feet than planned. They held up great and felt more comfortable as the day went on. They do need a little time to soften up, which is normal for quality leather boots. After a few wears, they started to feel more natural and formed nicely around my feet. Now I reach for them with jeans, leggings, and even simple dresses. Someone asked if they were vintage, which made me laugh because they already have that classic look. These are not cheap boots, but they feel like a great value for the money. Easily the greatest boots I have ever owned. They are a gorgeous, moody reach into heritage style but truly built to fit a woman's foot without surrendering an ounce of durability. Because they're crafted from real, thick-as-hell full-grain leather with a solid Goodyear welt, they do require a decent break-in period. Even ordering them in wide, I had to work them and stretch them out a bit at first to tame the stiffness. But once that leather molds to your foot, it’s pure comfortable excellence. Along with the low-profile outsole for killer traction without looking bulky, these are a loyal, indestructible pair of boots I’ll be stomping around in for years to come. ... show more

When I initially opened the box, the first thing that I noticed was the smell of fiiiiiiiiiine leather😌 I knew immediately that these were going to be well worth the cost.
