I have owned several GMC trucks over the years and if you keep them long enough these little clips will fail and your tailgate won't open. I replaced both since it was just a matter of time before the other side broke. Worked great and easy to replace. Happy with my purchase.

    • Perfect fit for 07 Silverado
3 bolts on the back of the tailgate and the handle and surround can be removed. Pop these into the handle mount then insert the rods then reassemble. 5min job. Tailgate release feels the best it has felt in years lol

While I think they are over priced for pieces of plastic, having seen some of the others available, I'd say the quality is better. Like so many other things that GM has done, these parts are designed to fail after so many uses. That being said, I had to replace them this year for the first time on my 2004 Sierra. However, never had to replace anything on my 1978 Silverado tailgate. Must not have had plastic parts! As far as installing, I would suggest pushing them into the latch openings first and then attaching the rods. I did it the other way around and really struggled to try and get the part with the rod already through it into the opening. Finally gave up after ruining one of the two pieces.
