At only 9" wide and 30" long, the backcountry provides all the Floatation most people will require to easily handle most snow conditions. And at less than 3 lbs. Per pair, the backcountry weighs less than the 22" and 25" models of many other ordinary aluminum frame snowshoes.

    • Slick binding system
Only the 2nd pair of snowshoes owned over the past +30 years. The old Sherpas are fine, but have been lusting over a pair of NorthernLites Backcountry for years. YOLO. Splurge. Outside of a significant weight savings, the binding system is nicer than the old Sherpas. Simple to put on or remove even with gloved hands. Only fiddling was tucking away the speed binding lace. Couple loops around the heel strap before tightening it. Just in from the 4th hike. Logging an average of +9km per hike over rolling terrain in 6-12" of fresh light powder like snow. At 60kg these shoes are a bit on the too large size. Personal preference for 30"ers. The shoes track nice. Traction going up and down hill is good. Traversing a steeper face is a bit of an issue. No heel lift platform becomes an issue on longer, steeper climbs. Hit a short section of trail that was groomed for fat tire bikes. Real hard packed groomed. Shoe from some people trail runners left a minimal imprint. Left the snowshoes on for the couple hundred meters. Traction was excellent. Expectations are for a durable product based on the past history of this brand of snowshoe. Good for those looking for a light weight, easy on/off snowshoe for use in rolling terrain in fresh snow. ... show more
