What a great product! I have had a typical frame soft top on my TJ for the 10 years I've been the owner. I have never been able to hold a conversation inside the Jeep. I read some reviews on this little baby and thought I'd give it a shot. I made the right choice for sure! It arrived packaged well. The vinyl windows are protected from transport abrasion with tissue paper. All pieces were flat and then cigar rolled. I'm a pretty particular guy, and wouldn't hesitate to send this back if it were damaged in anyway, but I think Rampage has their packaging on point. I love running with no top until late fall. All the reviews said to "make sure and leave the top out in the sun on a hot day." That being said, I installed this top on an overcast 48deg F Idaho day. I do not have the luxury of a heated shop. So, I was nervous about ripping any poorly constructed seams. The construction of this top is of high quality. I had no issues getting the appropriate install by following the directions, and being patient. I will say that a warm day would be ideal for the fabrict to be more stretchy... but if you rip this sucker it's without a doubt, your own fault. It's a very snug fit (being well built from a well designed spec) consider it a workout! I have put my other top on and off many, many times. That experience must have offered me an advantage. All told, from unboxing, to top on, drinking a cold one, admiring the Jeep's new look was 2 hours and 55mins. I took it for a test spin and was amazed. If there is any fabric flap below 45mph, it's completely undetectable. At highway speed it's about the same as my last top, but I'm running a Kargo Master Congo Cage and Safari Basket which causes so much air disturbance even a hard top would be load as all get out. In closing, if you like the style of this top it might be just what you're looking for. I see rain in the forecast in a couple days, I may update to this top's ability to keep the drips out effectively.

2023 Update: I reinstalled our RR sail cloth top a couple weeks ago and then while tweaking my somewhat hurried quick install that day, today I finished where I had left off (the interior of the Rubicon's interior was wet from being out with just our storm cover for a few weeks before Christmas, so deep cleaning and drying the interior out was my top priority - Duh). We've had so much rain on the west coast this winter no more open drives for awhile. All is tight and dry now so disaster averted. I'm writing to pass on how impressive this top has been for us over the years. Really, if you take normal care, clean it and not rush your removal/installs (and of course the sunny day install recommendations are just best for the top when it can stretch out a bit). Amazingly the top (still) fits like a glove once you have carefully align your window extension and just be methodical as you snap in all the edging. It's pretty miraculous how well it (still) fits at such tight tolerances. Well done Rugged Ridge and your suppliers! The top is now in its seventh year of service now, looks great and has held up well with some common sense care and storage (dry hung from the garage rafters). Yes, the tinted windows does have a few scuffs and scratches but actually they clean up well with sudsy bucket of water and a very soft sponge between water rinses. Same with the sail cloth, just clean it and rinse it. I had to sew the left rear corner edging (at the strap tie-down hole area) just due to my yanking on that corner so many times to get the edging to begin to let go to remove the top (so it eventually tore at the edging) but that easily repaired with heavy thread, an awl and some patience. Beyond that, it is and has been perfect. 2015 When First Purchased: I am giving a four star for now (it deserves a five but it needs to earn it), as it brand new by less than a month (and so far, so perfect) but I will report back in six months to update. Meanwhile, a sub $300 price for anything that covers the passenger area (almost perfectly water tight btw) through a winter is pretty amazing. To also have it look like it might last multiple seasons surely justifies any "risk" in buying this rather than many tops at two, three times the price. I have lots of other places/interests to spend my hard earned money on what is basically another toy/hobby. That said, if you need a top because your Jeep is both pleasure and needed/mandatory for commuting, I can't see any reason to pay more unless security, vandalism and break-in's are an issue, then no soft top can prevent that and you are going to be out $1100 or so for a hard top. Otherwise, the tinted windows gives an added measure of no peeking security...and I imagine this top will repair just as easily as any soft top with a seam split (or blade cut) by using a big needle, tough thread and a tube of black chalking/seam repair glue. Buy this top. I did not receive any special discounts or pricing to do this review. You cannot do better in terms of price, performance, fit or appearance in my humble opinion. I really like the fastback or frame-less style. Drops the visual height of the vehicle and gives it a slightly squatted down appearance. I am a six footer and easily another two-three inches of height for driver and my head touches the top in the back but not uncomfortable for any short stretch passenger (who the heck is in the back seat for hours at a time anyway? That is what a hardtop or a car is for!) The Sail Cloth version is absolutely high quality material given the ridiculously low price point. I will use the top during the winter and switch back to our full bikini and tonneau (and windscreen when stormy) set-up in the spring, summer and Fall. This frameless is such a perrfect alternative to a hardtop (which we have but I just don't need it/like it as it changes the character of the vehicle. I get hardtops but in our case it is a backup/fun truck and not an everyday driver. Anyway, switching tops will preserve the frameless top a few more seasons then what already looks to be material and workmanship that will last at least a three to four years of constant use with a little bit of care and careful install and removal thoughtfulness. I base the opinion on how well our current rampage tops have manged this past year. Yes, they are slightly discolored/faded but other than that the seams are good, the clasps/plastic tracks, edges are all in good condition and after they are unpacked from their storage box this spring they will get a protective coat of Topps or other dressing and off to another season of dust, dirt and open air motoring. Cheap, quality and durable. Installation: Installed sail cloth version on a 2004 Rubicon with the sound bar. Tight, impressive, precision fit requiring a little bit of patience (especially lining up and carefully doing the final zipping of the side and rear windows) but it can all be done by one person (use a stool or short ladder to gain better leverage and positioning) and allow about an hour to pre-heat the top, rear and side windows and another hour for the initial install and learning curve, and best waiting between sequences to provide some additional thermal stretching time in mild 60-70 degree weather. Time and patience really do matter on this install. If you are in truly cold weather you had better have a warm garage as I can not imagine fully installing the top without doing some serious damage to the top (zipper's and fitting the lower window plastic edging without something splitting/tearing. All in all a perfect fit. Followed exacting advice of others in this forum as well as watched the couple You Tube Rampage install clips. The Bows My top came with hollow metal tubes ("bows") crimped at each end rather then the fiberglass rods referenced in the installation instructions which are to be used and installed directly over the passenger compartment to help in water runoff and less pooling during storms. First, what is not made clear in the instruction (written or in the company video's) is whether the bows are best to install while the top is off the vehicle, loose or after everything is in place and a final procedural step. Obviously, or logically (to me at least) was to install after installation of the top as in my case the top was tight enough without the rods initially installed. When I remove the top at the header I may try to install but it isn't critical or a major concern. Just a minor flaw or instructional over-sight. Once I figure out it will probably be one of those "doy's!". Not a big deal, just a detail thing. The problem is getting the metal rods to deflect/bend enough into the end tabs sewn in the top without bending/splitting/breaking the rods or tearing the cloth insert tabs. I chose to slip the rods in the front windshield side tabs only and then slide the opposite end of the rods between the top itself and the roll bar for now since I see only using when the Jeep is stationary for drainage rather than have them in while driving (as the top drums on them as you drive). Small thing really. I have a call in to customer service at "Rampage" but they (the new ownership) seems to be in transition and may be addressing this at a later date. Tent-like fiberglass bows that had more "give" would make much more sense. These rods, though since they are somewhat bendable in a permanent position may be as intended to create a greater "bow" effect in the top, but as it stands now you are guaranteed to permanently bend these at install and either prepare to unbend once inserted and/or allow a slight additional bow to customize your level of drainage needed.

Just finished installing this top and I gotta say... I'm impressed. The last time I wrote a review for a top was for a Smittybilt bikini top, which was obviously engineered by the guys who dropped out of university and got their engineering degree with a 2.0 GPA at a degree mill. This top, by comparison, I'm convinced was engineered by top of their class at MIT graduates. First, the install is fairly easy for a new top. Of course it's a very tight fit, and if you can I recommend installing it in above 70 degree weather as the instructions suggest, but I was able to get it on in 50 degree weather with some elbow grease. The zippers and velcro are very high quality, and do their job well. In fact, I'd say that their quality and function easily exceeds the OEM tops. I love that there is a big flap that covers all of the zippers and crevices to protect them from the rain, and especially love the fiberglass rod inserts that are designed to keep the top from sagging under the weight of heavy rain. The sailclotch material is very thick and sturdy, and I imagine it would take some force to tear. The plastic tabs that insert into the bed rails and door surrounds are also thick and sturdy, so they "pop" into place like they are supposed to when you rotate them to go into the rail. I'll try to remember to update this review after a few months on the road and on the trail to see how it holds up, but right now this top easily earns its 5 stars.

Bought this top in July of 2017 for a 2004 wrangler Rubicon which I bought new. The factory soft top windows were too foggy to see out of, but other than that it was fine. I loved the idea of window storage and no bows to deal with, it also gave the jeep a lower profile and a great look. The bigger windows were a plus too. I was excited to install the top and followed the directions carefully. Let the top warm up in the +90 degree heat, attached the header bar and began trying to stretch the top onto the Jeep. It was a tight fit to say the least. Ripped the cheap single stitched rear corner threads trying to make the plastic retainers fit in the lip on the body... Chalked it up to installer error and repaired it with better quality thread. Finally got the top installed and it looked great.... It fit so tight that the only wind noise came from the plastic front corners on the header bar. It looked great, and I had high hopes it would stretch and be a great replacement for my 13 year old original. I took the windows out about a week later and stored them in the storage pouch where they stayed until I put them back in for the winter. Summer 2018 I took the windows back out(it stays in the garage). My family and I got caught in a rain storm and I pulled over to put the windows in. While putting the side windows in, I found a tooth broken on the zipper, the slide was gone, leaving only the velcro to secure the window... The rear window seemed to have shrunk and would not zip at all. Maybe it would fit again if I took the whole top off and readjusted everything, or removed the rollbar padding and factory sound bar, but that defeats the purpose... What I am left with is a 400 dollar bikini top. I should have bought a replacement window kit or a replace-a-top canvas kit. On a side note, I bought my first cj-5 in 1991 and have owned at least 10 topless jeeps since. The top looks great, but it wasn't worth the money or the aggravation.

I bought my Jeep with an old, ragged soft top. The Rampage trail top worked wonders to restore the look of my Jeep. I didn't like how the frame made the Jeep look and was searching for something more consolidated. This is it! The fabric is very thick. Thicker than my old Bestop and it really reduces the noise inside. I love the tinted windows too. Security is always a risk when you have a soft top but the tinted windows help conceal what someone might be looking for. They also help your jeep become less of an oven in the summer. I love have no frame to stow away. I can just fold it up and stash it OR this top also comes with a pocket in the top that you can zip all the windows into. Saves space and I don't have to worry about them getting scratched. Heed the warnings though, THIS TOP IS EXTREMELY HARD TO GET ON THE FIRST TIME. I let mine sit in the sun for a while and it still had me sweating trying to get it on. Having another person would be a big help. But it's good that it's tight because it keeps it from flapping everywhere and that reduced cabin noise. Also looks better. I love my Rampage Trail Top

I would have given 5 stars but it I received the item and it was packaged well bi bout it for the discount open bow price but when I opened up I was missing the storage bag, door surround support foam and the anti puddle support poles. Apart from that, installation was a breeze. Did it in the hot weather so that way everything could stretch before the install. I didn’t by myself and took me less then 1 hour to get it done. The hot sun helped out I guess. Haven’t taking it for a spin yet but if any issues I will update.

Awesome top! It takes a bit longer to remove the whole thing than the factory frame top but it's so worth it. Once you get good at it it really doesn't take that long. Quality built with awesome features. I will tell you that it is rather difficult to install the first time because it's and extremely tight fit. Make sure it's warm when you put it on. Once it's been on for a week or so it breaks in and stretches out.

Overall I really like this top. The only major issue I had with it was part of the zipper on the back glass. Right after I got it I left it in the sun and waited a while before trying to place it on my Jeep (I knew the zippers was an issue). This top fits very tight when you first get it, which is good and bad. The tight fit was great for reducing wind noise, but when I got to the back glass, even though I was being very cautious, the zipper end (the longer skinny portion at the end of the teeth) literally fell apart in my fingers. I am guessing this was a glitch in the manufacturing process as I hadn't put hardly any pressure on it. The rest of the top and other zippers are made very well. At the breaking point, I needed a top and didn't want to waste the time sending the whole thing back just for one new part. I ended up manually holding the ends together and zipped it anyway, which works if you do it right. Over the past few months I have used the top and it is holding up great (aside from the one zipper end that causes a wave in the back glass on that side). If it was not for the very small, but important 1/2 inch piece on back glass zipper, I would definitely give this top 5 stars.
