I was not looking to spend over $1000 on a garage workbench, since i'm only an at home DIYer. But I really wanted one with drawers. There was a harbor freight for about $150, but it had mixed reviews, and the comments said the drawers were a mess, and was continually out of stock. And the more expensive benches from Rockler, or Sjobergs with a drawer also had comments that the drawers were not of great quality. So I decided to go for the middle ground, and just make my own drawers to fit perfectly underneath. The assembly was pretty straight forward. I had 1 small dent on the support frame under the benchtop, so i flipped it around to face the wall, and then I had to re-drill holes to screw the top down from underneath, but that was my decision. It comes un-stained and very light as in the stock photo. My photo is after 3 coats of waterlox stain/sealer. There is a slight wobble to the bench, but it could be my garage. And I solved that by applying small strips of non-slip drawer liner and now its fine. The vises are perfect, and the benchtop and vise wood looks like excellent quality and feels solid. The item meets my requirements and the wood is beautiful and smells good. Dealing wit returns is difficult but Amazon provided good help. I think I will rebuy directly from the supplier after I take the product to UPS for return..

    • Best budget woodworking bench on earth
I thought I would just bang together a DIY 2x4 and plywood workbench, but with prices being what they are, it would have cost $200 - $300 to put one together! So I looked at good quality butcher-block-top-with-metal-legs workbenches, but even those simple things are in the $300-$400 range now, and reviews tell me the quality and sturdiness just aren't there. What I really wanted in the first place was a good woodworking bench, which is quite a different beast than a 2x4 bench or a metal frame with a wood top. But the prices of those have always been way out of my range. I mean, woodworking benches that cost $2000 or $3000 are probably worth those prices, I don't know. You typically get what you pay for. But I couldn't justify spending more than a thousand dollars on a bench. But then I found these Ramia woodworking benches. They looked great, but I was like, "Czech Republic? I don't know..." but then I read about their long tradition of building quality workbenches, and I was sold. This is a very good woodworking bench at a reasonable cost. Heavy, solid, built-in wood clamps, sturdy shelf underneath, bench dogs - it's got everything except drawers. You and I couldn't buy the hardwood and hardware and build this from scratch for the price they're asking for this bench. (I didn't buy it from Amazon only because I had a free shipping offer from another place which knocked $100 off the price.) This ships as a "flat pack," like IKEA furniture, so it is subject to shipper abuse. The packaging for mine was beaten and tattered, and many of the pieces have dings and imperfections. But it's a workbench, isn't it. It will be nothing but dings and imperfections in a few years. It's also unfinished, so you can either leave it raw (which probably isn't a good idea) or finish it yourself. I painted the bottom with milk paint and sealed the top with cutting board oil. You can use linseed oil or Watco Danish Oil, or whatever sealer you have on the shelf. It's a trivial thing and well worth doing yourself for this kind of savings. $500 or $600 is still a lot of money. But this is well worth the investment. The "woodworking benches" available at some hardware retailers for $150 - $200 are just wobbly junk that will make you feel bad about humanity. If want something you can really lean on and pound on and that will hold pieces securely while you work them, you need this Ramia. Buy one before they realize they aren't charging enough money for them. ... show more
