Happy to see this type of radio being manufactured. The first one I bought and it works absolutely perfect. An absolute joy to learn how to use. The selectivity and sensitivity are amazing for a radio several times this cost. So far I've spent many hours enjoying the Radtel. Great to use alongside an online sdr shortwave like kiwisdr or using your own sdr based hf reciever to locate stations. In dense fm broadcast locations an fm band stop can be a good investment although the selectivity of this unit is excellent. Battery lasts a very long time.     • Good ham HT and SW receiver

For the price, it is a fun and very workable HT and SW receiver. It works very well on the VHF/UHF Ham bands and even about 1 watt on 220 MHZ. However it is only designed for the 2 meter and 440 bands. On Shortwave it works very well considering that it has a rather low grade receiver. Cool little radio but it'll take a while to learn how to use it. The manual is mediocre at best. Be sure to order a programming cable because it doesn't come with one, Programming software and firmware are available at the factory website. I would advise you to save the factory configuration before making any changes. Because it isn't available on the website and firmware will not restore it. HF reception is pretty good. ITEM WAS SCRATCHED UP AND COULD DEFINITELY YELL A RETURN ALREADY HAD FM RADIO STATIONS PROGRAMMED AND A BUNCH OF REPEATERS BUT MOST OF ALL THAT MAKES ME MAD IS THAT THE THING WILL MOT SWITCH INTO THE HF MODE.EVEN TRIED UPDATING FIRMWARE..NO LUCK SO IM SURE PREVIOUS PERSON SCREWED UP RADIO.REST OF OT WORKS BUT DOES NOT CHANGE TO HF AS THE INSTRUCTIONS BY KEYS..SO DEFECTIVE OR ABUSED BY PREVIOUS OWNER..NOT BERY HAPPY...... UPDATE: SOMEONE sent me a used return radio that never was never checked out properly that has serious problems. I have contacted customer support. Hope you never have an issue with your radio as they are not very customer helpful. They want a lot from you and will stress you out badly. This radio has many features that supplement the typical VHF/UHF radio, like its powerful programming abilities and many listening bands, e.g. air band. The negative for the radio is the poorly written manual, which makes the learning process very time consuming. Additionally, like many low cost ham radios, spurious emissions are problematic. This radio is awesome!! It receives and transmits on all AM, FM, USB, LSB, CW, CB, LW, MW, SW, SSB and Air-Bands. To update the Firmware on this radio, you will need to download and intall WinRAR.     • Premature Release of "Not Ready for Prime time"

I wanted to love this radio, but too many loose ends and issues that need to be addressed. First, the programming software is a nightmare, with no instructions for use. Secondly strange firmware that was based on a DMR radio, again no explanation or instructions. Difficulty in the use of its functions and options in the manual that are non-existent, ie GPS. No clear instructions on how to use the HF functionality or noise reductions. No "Air Band functionality" I am hoping for the inclusion on the chirp programming. Hopefully things will get better with time and some firmware updates. ... show more
