I almost went for a size small without measuring but I decided to measured my cat and glad I did because she was a XS. When I put it on her, I tighted the neck and rib using did the 1-2 finger rule and made sure it was not too loose but tight enough incase she decides to try to get out of it. She obviously was not used to it and lay down alot but I knew it would take some time for her to get used to it. Her first weekend outside with the harness went really well. She did try to wiggle out of the harness a few time but I was there to calm her down and she was unsuccessful. She only did it because I wasn't allowing her to go to where she wanted. But if I follow her she doesn't seem to try to get out. Overall this is a good product. Would recommend it. ... show more

My little tuxie loves her harness! It didn't take long at all for her to adapt to it. The one thing keeping it from being five stars is the fact that I have to squeeze her little head into the thing. I saw one reviewer who changed the way the neck piece works so that it's attached with velcro. While that doesn't seem secure enough (maybe more of the snap-in things would work better), it might be easier to get on and off the cat. For the record, she is 8.5 lbs and it fits quite well. Bought this for a cat that we’ve raised from a kitten. He showed up on our porch when he was several weeks old (along with his mom). He’s a ginger kitty and he is very friendly, with a unique personality. To be able to allow him to safely go outside, we thought we’d try getting a harness. He doesn’t love having it put on or when we take it off, because you have to slide it over his head/ears/whiskers, but he’s been allowing us to put the harness on him, and he’ll go outside and check things out. He seems to be adjusting to it very well, and likes being able to go outside and explore. It seems comfortable to him, and it’s fairly easy for us to use and adjust as needed. Giving 4 stars since I love how this is designed - gets snug around the neck where they're most likely to wiggle out. That said, XS is not truly extra small. My adult cat is 7.5 pounds, very petite. While I got it snug enough around her head, the buckles over her body weren't close to tight enough and I tightened it as far as it would go. The cat was okay with it very quickly, even though in the photo she does not look like she's happy (after 30 minutes she was actually looking smug like, "I'm pretty cool looking with this thing!"), she is definitely okay with it. She rolled around a few times and walked slowly at first, but seemed okay with it well within 10 or 15 minutes. I've put it on her a few times since, just to see if it was a fluke. I praised her a lot and gave her treats - if she will eat treats, she is okay with what is going on. Some complain about their cats slipping out, but I believe it is either sized wrong or left too loose. Like a horse saddle, it has to be tight - not just down on the fur/hair - but must be loose enough so as not to restrict breathing or circulation. Make sure you make the fit tight enough so they cannot slip out and test it a lot indoors before going outside. (Definitely not like a dog that takes about 30 seconds to leash train! I have had dogs slip out of their collars that were too loose too, but at least you can usually get them back quickly. Cats are much more resistant to leashes and harnesses and can be impossible to get back.) It is A BIT CONFUSING on ordering because the sizes are "XS" and "S" and our brains think, "EXTRA SMALL" and "SMALL" but once I really measured the cat found my full grown cat was an "XS" size but would think maybe a KITTEN would be XS so my tendency would be to buy... "S"... maybe… if I did not measure her? When I first looked at these, I guessed at my cat's size and ASSUMED she was a S[mall] and could no way be and XS[mall]. I do not believe the S and XS mean SMALL and EXTRA SMALL even though XS is smaller than S. It would be better if the size was a different designation, forcing you to measure your cat so you purchase the correct size. I purchased a cloth tape at a hobby store and measured her with that. I bought the harness for emergencies (so I do not know how they would work / holdup with daily use) - my cat is an "indoor cat" but when she freaks out (like when the lawn mower is running around in the yard) she can be difficult to console or get calmed down; she will not take treats in moments like that. I reason in an actual emergency where I have to leave the house (fire, flood, tornado, etc.) it would be impossible to control her and she would potentially be lost forever. I have a travel "condo" with litter box for the back seat (Amazon) which is also for emergencies and the harness will be required to have any hope of safely getting her from the house to the car “travel condo” and to get her out without getting away at a new destination – just have to make sure you have good control of the leash. I put the harness on her once in a while to make sure she's still okay with it and she slips her head right in now, like it is a game. She patiently waits for me to snap in the two clips, too... with lots of praise and followed with treats. Very quickly delivered and a good price. Hope this helps. ... show more

My 12 pound cat escaped 3 time in 30 minutes. I had to make it tighter and I feel it's a little too tight now. However, I feel it is well made and easy to put on.. She seems to like it for the most part. Not as hot as her other one. I will continue to use it and hopefully she will get used to the soundsounds here on the lake where we now live and won't escape again. The media could not be loaded. We just got his harness today. He didn’t fight it when I put it on him but he’s walking a little weird. I don’t think he’s uncomfortable in it tho bc he looked pretty comfortable when he napped in it. :)) We got an XS. He weighs about 13lbs. I think he just needs to get used to it a little more bc it seems to fit just fine but I guess we’ll see. He got scared outside and the harness didn’t slip off when he pulled. The color is very pretty too. Overall, fantastic purchase so far. My only complaint would maybe be that the leash is very thin and I feel it could very easily slip off my hand even when I have it wrapped around my hand. I plan to buy a metal clip to secure the leash handle somewhere on my person. Better safe than sorry. The harness itself seems very sturdy. This was my first time taking my cat outside so I was worried that it wouldn’t be secure on her. But it’s very adjustable and she can’t get out of it so that’s good! She had a blast and wasn’t uncomfortable in it after I tightened it so she was comfortable.
