  • Very pleased with this product
I live in Texas and have always dealt with the rather large attic space heating up to 30 plus degrees above outside temps. Did my research on how to cool the attic space down and relieve the pressure on my AC system. I came up with a dual solution and one of those solutions included this companies 3 stage exhaust fan. The other is a roof sprinkler system that soaks the roof every 15 minutes for 2 minutes when the temps are above 90 degrees as an evaporative cooling method (I’m on well water). I installed the this company’s fan this week and I’m now not sure that i will even need the roof sprinkler system. It was sunny and 68 degrees outside when i installed it but it was already 95 degrees in the attic. I have two octagonal gable vents (first photo) on either end of my attic and about 60 feet of roof ridge vent between the gable vents. I chose to exhaust out the northeast gable vent since predominant summer breeze is from the south. As you can see in the second photo, i also had a double stud running through the middle of the gable vent that i installed the fan in. I simply followed the manufacturer’s instructions built an 18”x18” chamber out of 2X4s to accommodate the fan, then cut out a section of the double stud to mount the chamber and fan. Then I attached the provided black vent cover to cover the remainder of the 18”X18” chamber. Lastly, because the octagonal gable vents were so much larger than the chamber, i covered the remainder of the gable around the chamber with 2X4s and 2x6s to prevent backdraft from the fan air hitting the gable vent and sealed all cracks/gaps around the vent covers and chamber with silicon. Installing the control box… This is a simple plug and play unit, is opened the control box and found screw holes inside to allow me to attaché the control unit just below the fan unit. Then ran the rather long power cord to my furnace outlet and plugged it in. No wiring needed. Pairing with your phone… Couldn’t be easier…it utilizes blue tooth rather than WiFi. The app was self explanatory and even my limited tech ability allowed me to have my phone paired to the unit in mere minutes. First time operation… So i turned this unit on and was amazed! First…it is incredibly quiet. While i can hear it outside the house, i cannot hear it at all inside even directly below the unit (make sure you install the provided rubber pads between the fan and the framing of the house), even on the high setting. Then, while still in the attic, i realized, it was like i had air conditioning i. The attic (it was only 68 degrees outside and i sweating being in the attic) was like a wind chamber sucking cool air from the opposite gable vent and roof ridge vents. While it was definitely and noticeably cooler at the floor of the attic, the thermostat that controls the fan was 10 feet higher. But it too began to read temperature drop almost instantly. After 30 minutes on high, the attic cooled to 75 degrees. That’s a 15 degree drop and only 7 degrees above the outside ambient temperature. Then, after coming down from the attic, i found they i have very good connectivity (even with a metal ceiling in my garage between me and the fan control box) and was able to easily program the temperatures that i want each of the threes speeds the fan to operate at. I then went to the opposite side of the house (60 feet horizontally and 20 feet vertically from the fan) and found that i still had enough Bluetooth coverage to connect to the fan thru the app. So i can basically control it from anywhere inside. However…because I’ve programmed it to run automatically, i don’t believe that i will even need to “connect” very often. So anyone concerned that this is Bluetooth controlled vs. WiFi…i don’t see the need for it to be WiFi. So…in summary…easy to install, very well written instructions, moves a ton of air, it’s remarkably quiet, Bluetooth tech is awesome, easy to program and forget about it and seems to make a huge difference on a nice spring day. I don’t write many reviews…but when i find product that impresses me as much as this one does…I’ll take the time do so. My only wish…is that the app allowed you to monitor how long the fan ran each day at each setting. I have not found that it has that capability. That would be good info when trying to balance energy consumption vs benefits. Anyway, I’ll probably update this review when temps hit 100 outside and see what the temps are in the attic. In the meantime, not sure i need to spend the money and effort on installing the roof sprinkler I’d these results hold up. Best to all! ... show more

  • High Tech Efficient Whole House Fan
Have used an attic fan to both, cool the 20 ft x 8 ft attic as well as to generate a light, pleasant summer breeze through a couple of windows slightly cracked open. However, the older 1,050 cfm attic fan lost efficacy in drawing window breeze after my roof was replaced with ridge vents. Air was being sucked in from vented roof. This QuietCool fan returns every feature I sought because it moves three times the air volume with a variable 3-speed Ultra-Energy efficient Electronically Commutated Motor; brushless, DC motor using electronic, programmable controls. Cools attic and creates gentle breeze in living space. To increase efficiency by reducing power consumption this AFG SMT ES-3.0 Model fan is installed in a second, auxiliary door at attic entrance, thus bypassing all ridge venting and making former gable-mounted attic fan obsolete. Fan runs on lowest speed, consuming rated 23 watts. ... show more

  • Additional Specs
The media could not be loaded. Be aware ... - As a result of a household power interruption, the fan will not automatically resume running. It will remain OFF …it will remain off until it is physically powered back on using the app. - When time expires using “Timer Mode” the unit switches OFF. It will not resume “Smart Mode.” So, one cannot temporally override Smart Mode - for whatever reason - and expect the fan to automatically switch back to Smart Mode. - Which leads to this shortcoming: The fan cannot be controlled via Wi-Fi. So, if either of the two previously noted conditions occur, your fan will remain OFF - your attic will remain hot - until you return home. Although the controller is Wi-Fi enabled - which is how firmware is updated - the device cannot be controlled via Wi-Fi. - Also, the app provides no OFF button. One has to set a time in Timer Mode - minimum one hour - and allow the time to expire. - Computer balanced fan blades: Close, but not balanced. The fan vibrates. Other than these observations, the fan performs as advertised. It pulls scorching-hot air out of the attic so the R30 does not have to separate me from 160F. The fan motor runs quietly and is power-efficient (though I’ve not actually verified the current). Would I buy another? Yes. Would I recommend it to friends? Yes. Is there a better choice? No. It would be helpful, however, if QuietCool would polish the app and controller a bit. I would even be willing to qualify a prototype. ... show more
