Description

These small Cone 6 Pyrometric Cones are used on a shelf inside a kiln or in a kiln sitter to determine when a firing is complete, if the kiln provided enough heat or if there was a problem during the firing. These Orton cones are made from carefully controlled compositions so that they bend in a repeatable manner over a very small temperature range. When used in a cone holder the cone tip sags until it reaches a point level with the base indicating the kiln has properly fired. The cones can also be used in a kiln sitter with equally accurate results. Cones have been used in ceramic firings for more than 100 years and Orton has the history and experience to provide the very best product. The number of this cone is 6 which bends at an approximate temperature of 2291 degrees Fahrenheit depending on firing conditions.

THESE ARE MISLABELED. They are sold as Cone 6, but are in fact Cone 06! VERY BIG DIFFERENCE!! Cones from coolest to hottest: 013 012 011 010 09 08 07 06 05 04 03 02 01 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 8 10 11 12 13. High fire stoneware starts at cone 5-6 (some call it mid-fire) Porcelain likes temps Cone 10-13. In any event, this item is mislabeled. ... show more

  • They are cones, but…
Many came broken in half (unuseable) and the rest are two cones attached together that will NOT come apart nicely. Waste of money :(

  • Basic for a kiln sitter
One of my kilns has a kiln sitter and needs these cones to operate. They work!

  • You might not get the correct box.. :(
The sellers do not know the difference between the numbers. It was sold with the description of Cone 6, but when I received it, I was given a box of Cone 06. HUGE difference when it comes to temperature. I’m sending it back since all my glazed are for Cone 5-6.

  • cones hard to separate
These cones come in pairs. I watched the Orton youtube video on how to separate the pairs but the method of snapping them apart does not work for me. I have wasted about 1/3 of them.

  • This product is actually cone 06 not cone 6
I received my order, and the Orton Cone 06 box was labeled with a sticker indicating it was cone 6. Maybe it was a clerical error on whom ever was responsible for putting the UPC sticker on but either way, inconvenience. Wrong product.
