Description

The SE Silver Sky is a familiar iteration of the original Silver Sky model that was first introduced with John Mayer in 2018. This workhorse guitar provides ample tone and playability in four distinct colors, delivering looks, feel, and sound. The PRS SE Silver Sky starts with a poplar body, bolt-on maple neck, and maple fretboard with PRS trademark bird inlays. The 22-fret, 25.5” scale length neck features the original 635JM carve and an 8.5” fretboard radius, so the PRS SE Silver Sky will feel right at home. Plug it in, and the three single-coil 635JM “S” pickups will bark and sing. This guitar is anchored by a two-point steel tremolo, synthetic bone nut, and vintage-style tuners. Other design features include the PRS Silver Sky inverted headstock shape and the PRS double-acting truss rod (accessible from the front of the headstock for ease of use). Ships with PRS Classic 10-46 strings and gig bag.

Two issues: - the neck feels like a bat to me - the bridge saddles are designed so that to get acceptably low action, the screws/bolts stick up quite high with sharp edges

Absolutely amazing guitar for the money. Highly recommend if your looking for a strat like guitar under 1000 bucks. Will hsve to dial in the setup but gonna be hard to beat this.

I'm blown away by this guitar, it exceeded my expectations by far. It was setup nearly perfect out of the box, nicely rounded fret ends with lower fret action that plays like a dream. I tried the rosewood version in a store and was impressed with the tones, but I didn't click with the fretboard, it felt slower than my other high end Orsmby Goliah ebony fretboard guitar. This Maple fretboard version on the other hand has unreal playability, as good as guitars 2-3x its price. There is something magical about the feel of the fretboard and sizing that makes riffing and creativity just flow with ease. The size of the neck feels a lot better than the rosewood model to me. I'm not certain but it feels like less of a baseball bat neck (is it just me or are they different?), and more of a perfect D shape like the newer Orsmby's. Within minutes of playing, I was jamming by feel, rarely looking down. This Maple SE Silver Sky to me has better playability and tone than the fenders I tried, although I didn't go above $1k fender models. The tones out of this guitar are phenomenal and covers a wide versitility in styles. I was just looking for a single coil guitar to use the John Mayer X Neural DSP plugin with in contrast to using coil split humbuckers. I didn't except the playability to be in the same ballpark as much more expensive guitars. In some ways I have a better flow of ideas, trying out new things on this guitar than my others. It's my first PRS guitar and I'm really impressed, I get what all the excitement is about with their instruments. The next time I'm in the market for a guitar, I'm going to look deeper into their lineup. ... show more
