The retractable handle and the hinges in the hoop make it portable when needing a net that will go in a suitcase. BUT--God forbid that handle should get stepped on or mashed. While the hoop is very sturdy, the handle is not. It would not be fixable if damaged. Also, the handle has to be twisted into place and may cause the user to miss a catch or two. My grandson is collecting bugs for a school project. He even took it on the plane to California on vacation with him. Because it extends and collapses, it is perfect to take anywhere. He loves it, as once the bug is inside, it can't easily fly out. This was a perfect gift!

The media could not be loaded. Especially when considering the price, this net is sturdy even when extended (just don't fully extend it or let a kid swing it around. It says Professional! I see a lot of reviews about kids breaking them). The materials used for the netting were strong enough for me to not only capture a chipmunk that ran into one of my gutters, but also held up to his clawing and biting while he was trying to climb out without leaving a single hole in the netting! He was in this net for about 5 min, I wanted to walk a good distance from my house to release him. A quick rinse and the net is ready for next use! Remember, this is an insect net, not a rodent net, that's why I am so impressed. I challenge anyone to catch an insect bigger than a chipmunk haha ... show more

I very much like the telescoping handle with the grip handle at the end. This is much sturdier than I expected for the price. The ring came collapsible but once the net was on and it was connected to the handle it felt very sturdy. Since I bought it to occasionally catch a wayward chicken in contrast to butterflies....I was very concerned it would not be worthy of the off label product use. I have not needed to use it yet but I am expecting it to give me years of service. ... show more

I bought this thinking it was a minnow net, so I’m using it as a minnow net lol. And it works great for it so I’m sure it’s good for catching bugs as well. Will buy from again when I need a net.
