  • It talks in 4 languages
The media could not be loaded. I’ve had a prodigy for the past 10 years and this new upgrade has been so much better than the pocket one. Batteries are easier to replace, it talks so it makes it easier to use even in the dark, stores your results but I still recommend to get a logbook, it can connect to a computer to transfer information from your meter to your computer logbook or doctor’s computer, comes with a case so that you can take it in your pocket or purse. ... show more

  • Great talking meter for poor vision
My mom is 88 years old and lives this meter because it says her number out loud and she doesn’t have to read the screen . It’s very cheap and after her old one died after many years so couldn’t get one through Medicare but found it here cheap. One thing it is a pain to set you have to take the back off and click through each choice if you’re in daylight savings time twice a year. It’s a pain. Only flaw in this cheap option for someone wanting to hear their numbers ... show more

  • It is economical, easy to use and test strips are easy to find at a good value
I have been using prodigy glucose meters for many many years. They are accurate obviously to a certain degree. I have compared blood test at the same time I have had blood test done at a lab with a blood sample right from a drop where my blood sample was taken from and results are not that far apart. The only 2 negative things I could tell you about my prodigy glucose meter is that in 2021 this device is not Bluetooth enabled to instantly drop data results into a App. You can easily find Bluetooth enabled glucose meters but their test strips are 2-3 times the price and when you have to check several times a day that does make a difference in monthly expenses. It also requires a little bit more blood to do the test but that for me doesn’t matter because I already pricked my finger with the lancet device so it’s just a little bit more of a squeeze and that’s it. At the end of the day, everything is up to you! There’s so many devices out there so you just have to find the one you feel more comfortable with. Durability, many years. Battery consumption, several years. Easy to use, very easy. Price for test strips, on eBay I find 50 strips for 5–6 dollars so I normally just buy 500 strips at a time. Why did I replace my previous machine? I was upset and I threw it against the wall… No glucose meter survives that 🤣🤣😇 41yrs living with T1D! ... show more

  • Dependable Blood Glucose Reading
I am being treated for type 2 diabetes, since Spring of 2018. I have been using my original Prodigy AutoCode, Blood Glucose Monitoring System for 2 1/2 years. November 10, 2020 my meter would still read properly, but then went immediately into setup / learning mode after the correct analysis was displayed for a split second. Which meant after each reading I would have to remove the back cover and enter the correct information. . So I ordered a replacement Prodigty AutoCode glucose monitor from Amazon, on the same day, I received my new replacement meter the very next day, Wednesday, November 11, 2020. The reason I needed a quick delivery was that I am now on Insulin and require accurate reading prior to administering my insulin shot. When I went to register my replcement meter fo warranty, I discovered that it has a limited Lifetime Warranty. I will be contacting the manufacturer about replacing or repairing my original Prodigy. Follow up on Prodigy customer service telephone call. Conclusion: They are sending me a free replacement glucose meter. This way I will have a backup on hand. Thank you Prodigy! November 18, 2020 I received my replacement meter from Prodigy, I used Prodigy control Solution Low for a new capillary blood test strips and it registered @ 55 mg/dl midway between my two ranges 35-85 mg/dl printed on my new container of test strips. ... show more

  • Warning
This is without a doubt the worst meter I've used. I use it anyway. If you're buying a meter for the first time don't buy it. Get something really reliable like accuchek. Why do I use it? Because the number of test strips that insurance will pay for has decreased dramatically. They will only pay for one or two a day for a type 2 diabetic. I need 6 to 8. Extreme hunger can signal either very high blood sugar or very low, and I have to handle those two things very differently or bad things will happen. So I calibrated this meter with my accuchek meter under all kind of conditions and found to my horror that this meter registered 60 to 110 points higher than the accuchek. But it was a consistent horror. On the high side, 410 points would register around 300 on the accuchek. Way too high but not verging on requiring hospitalization. 240 on the prodigy translates around 170 to 180. I can't trust prodigy to reliably register a normal blood sugar. My impression is that it's closer to accurate in the normal range, but I've had it register way too low and way too high, so I can't take a chance. And I would never trust it to check for a very low blood sugar. One mistake on that side could threaten your life. I use prodigy solely to give me an idea whether my blood sugar is rising or falling so I can adjust meals and account for exercise if necessary. I use accuchek to get baselines and to check any extreme readings prodigy gives me. It's a very narrow range in which I can use it, but I can afford to check more often, and save some of the accuchek strips, so I can actually afford to get through the month on the strips they allow. Be extremely careful with this meter. ... show more
