  • Excellent book for Beginners and Students in Sound
So I am working on Pro Tools 11 and I am a beginner learning to edit a lot of sound for my classes and I only have a background of NLE (Non-Linear Editing: Avid MC7, FCPX, Adobe Premier) So I purchased this book to learn some of the basics and I would say that this was a great way to learn about the new software that was release by Avid: Protools. Each chapter is very detail from helping you start from how to create your own session to how to edit, then also how to export and all of the proper things you need to begin with. If you are a beginner and interested in working with sound or composing your music, purchase this software and buy this book to get to know the basics of Pro Tools. I am not done with the book but if there was anything I did not find very helpful, I will make another review. ... show more

  • Helpful book for a novice Pro Tools user
I like this book. It's laid out in a logical fashion and designed for use with a class. But I'm working through it on my own and find that same approach very helpful. I feel like I'll be up and running with Pro Tools in a very short time thanks to this book. It's well-organized, has a good index, and because it's only the first of several levels of instruction, is not exhaustive in it's approach. It lays out the goals of each chapter very clearly. Well Done. ... show more

  • AN INTRODUCTION TO PRO TOOLS THAT WORKED FOR 12.5
Gives the Pro Tools user the basic "tools" to get started with this amazing and evolving DAW. I found it helpful even for the current version of 12.5. However you will need to use PT hands on and experiment and supplement your learning with video tutorials and the included manual that Pro Tools comes with. Remember, this is an introduction to Pro Tools. Once you acclimate to the essential features of Pro Tools you will become a lifetime student, since the program is constantly improving and changing. I am personally using the latest version of Pro Tools 12.5, however this workbook was still beneficial. There are exercises and a DVD and chapter questions included in this book to help the student/user apply what you have learned. Combined with all of the above and a passion to learn, you will become a Pro Tools expert in no time. ... show more

  • Top notch introduction to Pro Tools 11!
Frank Cook's books are the definitive source for basic Pro Tools information. This is Pro Tools basics, but you will be surprised how much information is disseminated, even at the "101" level. As a Certified Pro Tools Instructor and former Product Specialist at Digidesign, I can tell you that this is the book we use for Certified training in our instructor led 101 classes at Electric Lounge in Chicago. The only reason this isn't a five star review is that I feel even the 101 book can be advanced for the complete novice. (this is no fault of the author or text). Mr. Cook's writing is clear and engaging and well structured....not an easy task with an ever expanding amount of subject matter as features continue to be added with each revision. ... show more

  • Needed For New Users
I lucked into owning a version of protools on my computer and this book is now a necessity for me. I did not know much about this application and this book has everything one needs to not only get started but produce some high quality music. I recommend this to anyone who is interested in the program. ... show more

  • and I always cried myself to sleep thinking about how terrible of a person Reggie was
There was one kid in my class named Reggie. Reggie would always bully me and put me down, and I always cried myself to sleep thinking about how terrible of a person Reggie was. One time, he even saw me exit the bathroom without washing my hands and told everyone he could. Everybody stayed away from me for a week, including my best friend Herbert. From then on, I would always point him out from the crowds of people he'd seem to be in so I could start to try to avoid him, but still it was no use. When I was down to my last straw, I was surfing across Amazon for "convenient ways to nullify opponents" when I came across this book entitled "Pro Tools 101, an introduction to Pro Tools 11." This book, it seemed, was the key to life, the key to defeating my adversaries. I ordered it, and the next morning it came. I read it on the way to school, and it was a book about music. I couldn't believe my eyes. Amazon had lied to me again, just as they had lied to me about the conditions of the snotgun I ordered and the socket launcher that I had hoped would take down Reggie. I figured that this book now had only one purpose: a melee weapon. The knowledge in it was useless for my task. I was going to have to take down Reggie using its physical powers. When I saw Reggie, after pointing him out from the crowd with my middle finger, he went up to me and punched me in the chest. I retaliated, however, by smacking him across the face with my book. He clutched it in pain, and kicked me in the groin. I doubled over in pain as he took my book from me and smacked my face with it. He took my bag and emptied out its contents on top of me and that was when I had decided that I'd had enough. I swept him with my left foot and got up, throwing my book at him. He ran off, crying and clutching his face. I thought I had won when a second person came over. I was told that I was being very naughty and was going to be in big trouble. I cried in guilt, knowing what I had done. This person made me feel terrible, so i tried to smack her with my book. She caught it and told me to leave. Now I'll never be able to graduate the second grade. ... show more
