    • Best CB radio of the many I have owned over the decades.
This is hands down the best FCC type accepted CB radio on the market, at least when I ordered. I understand President has since released the George FCC which has a few features this does not have at a much higher price tag. Quite simply this is a very premium radio. Noise cancellation is a feature listed to rate I gave it a 3, the factory mic does a fair job of rejecting noise, but is NOT a noise cancelling mic. I added a President Digimike to handle that duty. My 4x4 club requires CB radio, and some members are shifting to FM capable radios. I enjoy shooting skip on SSB and considering this was installed in a camper van, that does trail runs, the weather radio feature was super important to me. Performance is hands down the best I have had from any radio straight out of the box considering antenna mounting limitations in my application. My first try out of the box, just connect the radio, connect the antenna, set SWR and talk, I was hitting stations 15 miles away on AM, no skip. The ANL/NB noise rejection circuitry is spot on. Scan is great assuming you have strong stations you want to hear, Auto Squelch is far more forgiving than futzing with setting it manually. The adjustability for color, brightness and contrast of the dispaly makes for a super easy to read display. There is so much I can say about this radio, but I will summarize for you. I liked it so much for my camper van, I bought a second one for my pickup. Now you can get added features with an export 10m radio modded to run on Citizens Band, but we all know that is against FCC regulations and I don't particularly want those fines. If you want the best performance money can buy and stay legal, get this radio, set it up with a 102" whip, or a Predator 10K on a roof mag mount, or a Wilson 1000 type antenna (avoid the Lil Wil okay?) and you will be happy with this rig. ... show more

Everything you might want AM/FM/SSB. Exceptional functionality. First thing I noticed was the high speed of the scan. Automatic squelch works great. Dual Watch is a good feature. Fumbling through the menu and the function button takes a moment to look at the manual, but those are set and forget adjustments, and most were set how I want from the factory.     • Great, but not for everyone
If you are a hard-core CB aficionado, you already know that this is a top-of-the-line radio (AM, SSB, FM). My review is for those who want to get into radio and are considering their options. The common wisdom says: "Get the best radio you can afford". Yes, this CB radio is quite expensive, but is it for you? In this regard, I have a few suggestions: • If you like radio but you are not entirely sure that you want to get into CB, don't go the CB route. Start with GMRS radio instead. It is so much better in so many ways. • If you still want to go into CB for whatever reason, then ask yourself: Would the regular AM modulation be enough, without the FM and SSB modulation options? If the answer is yes, you can get much cheaper AM-only radios. Spend the rest of your radio budget on a good antenna setup. I gave this radio 5 stars because it is an excellent radio in its class. But this radio is not for everyone. In terms of real-life everyday comms, it is pretty useless. It is nothing more than an expensive toy. And you would still have to shell out some $$$ for a good antenna set up. Remember, CB is an 11 meter band. The shortest well-working antenna would be about 102 inches long (1/4 of the wavelength). If you coil that up into something shorter, you will compromise performance. In contrast, GMRS is a ~70 cm band. Your antenna could be as short as just a few inches. Plus, you can legally pump out 50 watts of power on GMRS, instead of just 4-12 watts on CB. ... show more

    • Expensive but worth it
I recently got back into 2-way radios and decided to add a CB radio to my collection. I chose this model because it had AM/FM/SSB mode and the Automatic Squelch Control system. The ASC is supposely a PRESIDENT radio exclusive that keeps the radio silent regardless the of background RF noise UNTIL an actual audio carrying RF is detected. So far, it seems to do exactly as advertised. I can see S-7 background RF noise in some area and the radio stays quiet until someone talks. At other locations where the background RF noise is S-3 the radio stays quiet until someone talks and breaks the squelch threshhold. The ASC seems to follow the noise up and down as needed to silence the radio. Transmitted audio is clear and loud using the stock microphone. I get consistent complement on the quality of the transmitted audio on AM and SSB. I haven't talked to anyone on FM mode yet.... no one else seems to have FM capability around me. The radio is large but the front facing speaker allowed me to install it in a DIN sized cutout on my 4X4 thus not having to install additional speaker. The weather radio receive cuts in and out, though... not sure whats causing that, but I don't really need that function anyway (If I need to I can use my amateur radio to tune into any frequency I need). So far, I've used this radio with a 4' FIrestik antenna mounted at the back of my 4X4. During a range/audio test in a very densely populated area (many homes, obstructions, 2 to 3 story tall buildings) I was able to consistantly communicate with a contact 3 miles away using SSB. The radio's receive sensitivity is very good. The other contact was also mobile and using a magnetic mount antenna. If I needed another CB radio for my other cars, I would consider this radio again.... but like I said, it's a big mobile radio more suitable for cars that have sufficient opening or space to install. ... show more

    • My second President 2 McKinley
1st McKinley 2 worked well as mobile CB radio. Use primarily on LSB talking skip. 2nd McKinley 2 being set upas base station. Working well and use for LSB skip.
