  • Just what I wanted
I wanted a headboard with storage but I have a sleep number bed and was worried about attaching a headboard. This freestanding headboard was prefect. I gave 4 stars for assembly and install just because it would have been a lot harder to do on my own. Luckily I had my dad around to help out. Otherwise, yes the parts are unlabeled but if you go through and organize the pieces carefully, and read through the instructions a time or two, it’s not bad. The stabilizing brackets were very hard to do on my own (without an electric drill) but my dad was able to do it. Just be careful not to push down because it will cause the board to be out of alignment. We rescrewed it once it was standing upright and the fixed the problem. Also I had two extra pieces of wood in mine - a long piece and a small piece but both had no drilled holes, and I ended up using them as shims to level the headboard out since my floors are slanted (I live in a really old building). I assume they were included to ensure tight packing. And yes, it’s very heavy in the box. ... show more

  • Looks good and does the job.
OK, this is not the most expensive headboard on the market. Yes, it is built of particle board. But it is in my bedroom and looks fine. It does the job just fine. Also, I cut two holes in the shelf to drop electrical cords behind the headboard. Very happy with the purchase.

  • Be careful with assembly
After liking the easy instructions for their mates storage bed, I found these a bit lacking. On page 10, step 7 they want you to tap in plastic dowels in one end of H3 and H5. Ok, but then I found it impossible to simply fit those pieces into H1. Tried to gently tap on other end of those pieces but wound up chipping a piece of laminate off. So, discovered the right way to assemble the top was to tap the plastic dowels into H1 first, then H3 and H5 pushed on as intended nicely. (H1 is not specifically designated in step 7 either. You must surmise from the picture). At first we were not going to get a headboard as it blocks part of a nice view to our backyard bird feeders. And liked being able to crack open the window right behind our heads. But decided it looked pretty good in the pictures and our old nightstands were blocking a couple of drawers on the storage bed. So we ordered it and assembled it last night and put books and nick naks in it today. I must admit it does look pretty darn good. Top and bookcase area is much larger than I assumed. Very nice. Shoved it right against the baseboard in front of the window with the blinds resting on top of it. Prepac mates storage bed shoved up against it OK. At first we were concerned the headboard would be banging against the wall and was prepared to stuff in some scrap styrofoam but found that to be unnecessary. ... show more

  • Looks great, fits our needs, for the price
We got the espresso storage headboard in Queen/double size. It fits the bed fine and the measurements given online were correct. Storage headboards are a great solution for tight spaces where a night stand won't fit. This one has plenty of storage space and looks very nice. As others mentioned, we had to cut holes in the backing for electrical cords. Lucikly we have a hole saw that worked perfectly with the cordless drill we used for faster assembly. Assembly was pretty easy with only a couple of confusing diagrams since none of the pieces were labelled as to what piece number they were. You can leave out the center horizontal shelf if you want all of your cubbies to be the same height. I found the lowest price including shipping for this on Amazon. For the price, it is great. ... show more

  • Rich color. Funky footprint. assembly required.
As a resident of a large city I know what it's like to live in little more than a closet so when I planned my bedroom in a small apartment I knew that space conservation would be key. This assembly required bedroom "set" fit the bill perfectly. I purchased the storage headboard along with Prepac Manhattan Queen Platform Storage Bed, Espresso and Prepac Fremont Espresso Tall Night Table almost 3 years ago and all are holding up reasonably well. Accross the board with these Prepac Espresso furniture I've been satisfied with the value. The color is dark and deep and looks of quality. The down side to particle board though is that a decent inadvertent scratch goes through the colored layer completely so care should be taken during construction and final placement. The storage headboard looks really nice and is quite sturdy once the bed is up against it. I generally three complaints though: The base is designed oddly so that if you drop something in between the headboard and platform bed it disappears under the headboard and BOTH have to be moved for retrieval. It's also quite unstable if you move the bed away from it like it's center of gravity is off a bit. And there is a little shelf in the center section that is resting loosely on pegs (like an Ikea bookshelf) and it's quite loud when you bump it off with a pillow in the middle of the night, so I hid it away permanently. I am most fond of the bedframe because of it's utility. The drawers do an admirable job of storing some pajamas, extra sheets, and various other items that wouldn't make sense in the small closet dresser. I have read some reviews that suggest reinforcing the construction to improve sturdiness and would advise you to consider it if purchasing this frame especially on hardwood or very thin carpet. a bump with the hip is more than enough to knock the bed out of square with the factory setup. That being said, the frame is very versatile as a platform and allows you to choose the mattress height you prefer, with or without a box spring, without sacrificing support. The frame does creak ever so slightly if you get really active in the bed, but otherwise I haven't noticed anything that is cause for dissatisfaction. The nightstand is the most solid of the three and looks really quite nice. The only thing to be aware of is that as a combination it doesn't work perfectly with the storage bed frame because it blocks a drawer if placed directly next to the head and the headboard isn't deep enough to compensate. Really it's my own fault for not checking the measurements beforehand. Other than that I actually love the little set, especially for the money. ... show more
