This House of Atlas razor kit is honestly fantastic as a travel companion cause the weighted metallic handle is compact and sturdy without taking up much space in your bag. The magnetic shower hook is genius it sticks right to metal surfaces so you can hang it in any hotel bathroom or gym locker room and keep it dry and rust free. The five blade cartridge with the precision trim edge gives a really close smooth shave and makes lining up sideburns way easier than with basic razors. The serum strip with aloe vitamin E and shea butter glides nice over skin and cuts down on irritation even on multi day stubble. The gunmetal finish looks sharp and modern feels premium in the hand like something you would pay double for at a barber shop. The smartflex head pivots well to follow face contours so you get good coverage without much pressure or nicks. Comes with two refills out of the box which is enough to get started and the blades are compatible with their other kits if you need more later. Its versatile for shower or sink use and the whole setup just feels built to last without any cheap plastic vibes. If you travel alot or just want a reliable everyday razor that packs light and performs great this one nails it. While I believe the blade cartridge is a workable design and the blades are sharp, the Atlas Premium has an achilles' heel - the handle. It is longer than a typical (i.e., Mach 3 or Fusion) handle; its balance point is extremely low, and the grip aids are not in the places that would make them useful. I found myself having to constantly reposition my hand because wet hands/razors are slippery. The awkward balance point left me with the sense that I was shaving with an inverted batter spoon with a blade at the top of the handle. In my two shaves, I eventually found that the feature to snap the head into a locked trimmer position gave me much more control over the razor, and despite the design intent, I did my second pass entirely with the trimmer function active and got a decent, but not great shave. I have much better results from a standard single-blade safety razor, at a fraction of the cost. For reference, when I travel and cannot use my safety razor due to airline restrictions, I will opt for a Bic (1-5 blade models, any work fine) or a Mach 3 and get acceptable results. In comparison this razor doesn't register on the likeability/functionality scale. I approached She Who Deserves A Medal and offered the other blade (2 were provided) to her for review. She politely but firmly pushed it back into my hands: "Don't bother, I tried it already and I hated it. It's for MEN." Soooo, we continue to bow at the altar of Venus on that front. Would I use it regularly? No. Would I recommend it to a particular profile of shaver? No. Would I reconsider if some of the handle issues are addressed? Sure! I'll try just about anything related to shaving! ... show more

I ordered this House of Atlas Premium Razor for Men, Handle and 2 blades to compare to my standard, a Fxxxx 5. First impression, the handle itself is hefty feeling, and has a squarish profile that is easy to grip. It is sleek, stylish and smooth, does not have 'grippy bumps", yet its not slippery, even with soapy wet hands. I always shave in the shower, which is why I really appreciate the self stick, magnetic holder that comes with the handle. I cleaned the tile carefully, peeled off the protective sheet and stuck the holder where it is convenient, yet out of the way. Outstanding! No more grungy suction cup hook that fails half the time! The blade head swivels fore and aft, much like my Fxxxxx 5. The 5 blade design, along with the lubricating gel bar provides a smooth, clean, irritation free shave. I actually lathered up my face and shaved the left side with one and the right side with the other. The Atlas did as good or better a job as the Fxxxxx 5, with no nicks, cuts or pulling. Sitting here typing, sliding my hands over my face, I cannot detect any difference. So, we all know, the real cost is hidden in refill blades. I was surprised to find that the Atlas refills ($2.37/ea when you buy 8) are 30% less than Fxxxxx 5 (priced at my membership club.) Bottom line, great razor handle, excellent shave, 30% savings on refills = great value! I highly recommend! ... show more

This razor has a nice weight and ergonomic handle, which makes shaving easier and more precise than many disposables. The gunmetal finish really looks professional and high quality. The included blades are sharp and smooth and I don't have any skin irritation from shaving with this razor. Very good price point for the quality you get. A couple notables: (1) I shave in the shower and the handle is a little slippery when wet and (2) the description clearly states 1x Metal Handle and 2x 5-Blade Refills however the photos show a Blade on the handle and 2x Blade refills where you only get 2 blades total. This dropped a star on my review otherwise I like the razor and its performance. ... show more
