  • Great product
Work great especially for first time user. Variety of screw lengths and sizes. Iron control is good.

  • A great set perfect for anyone 3D printing
I had been putting off buying the Heat inserts for a long time. This was a great Buy considering it came with the iron the adapters and all of the heat inserts. Making it very functional for different projects. Not sure I would use the two or three smallest sizes but they were there with the kit. Appears to be quality product, plenty of different size inserts. And I was pleased with the price ... show more

  • Works Great
This set up works great. The soldering iron heats up quickly and has a temperature dial. Set some inserts into a 3D print and have had no problems.

  • Not screwed
Great little kit. Only complaint is the hundred or so tiny ziploc bags, but thats to be expected with these kits these days.

  • Great starter kit for putting metal threads into plastic.
This is a good set for anyone interested in putting metal threaded inserts into plastic items. I have tested these inserts in acrylic, polyethylene and PVC sheeting as well as in PVC and ABS and pipe. With a bit of trial and error, you can get to consistently good results. The kit has 716 pieces including inserts, bolts, washers and nuts in M2, M3, M4, M5 and M6 sizes. As with most assortments, it runs heavy on the smaller and shorter items. I find the M2 are very small, of little use. They comprise 30% of the item count. The larger sizer are in short supply. Maybe your needs are different. My uses will include plastic boxes and enclosures for electronics projects, occasional plastic projects such as a bicycle carrier mount and for woodworking jigs needing plastic shields or other components. The kit includes an adjustable temperature soldering iron and the needed brass fittings to adapt the iron to push the insert into the plastic item while allowing easy release of the insert from the iron. The heat setting varies with insert size and type of plastic. Preheat the soldering iron and let it stabilize. It is best to try a few inserts to understand the process. Set the insert on the hole in the work and press with the iron equipped with the proper size adapter. I think getting the insert straight is very important. Push the insert most of the way into the hole, then push it the last millimeter or so with a any hard item that can push the flat top surface of the insert flush with the plastic. If the plastic has a wide enough flat surface around the insert, a small block of wood will do the trick. Pressing with a flat item will correct any tilt of the insert. Another way with a flat workpiece is to flip the part over an press it against your hard work surface. If your plastic piece is in a recess, improvise something that will fit in the area to press with. Perhaps use a larger flat end metal rod or dowel. It can be difficult to set a perfectly straight insert when using just the iron. Avoid setting the insert too deep. Avoid overheating and burning. Work where there is adequate ventilation. A digital readout soldering iron that is compatible with the adapters would be a desirable upgrade. Properly installed the inserts are quite strong and will not strip out like threads cut into the plastic. This kit is a nice addition to my shop. ... show more
