  • Written like an Academic Journal
Most of the negative reviews complain about: - How it's not "easy" to read The subject of magick is treated academically. The author pulls in the findings of history and other authorities in magick. This is not written like those "x steps to ---" guides. You WILL have to do some digging. But if you know how to skim and scan, it is written in logical order: In order, it starts with an intro, goes through the steps and various methods on how to create the sigils, and ends with some theoretical frameworks on magick and a call to create your own method. I think the last part is what creates most dissatisfaction amongst negative reviews the most. But as someone who has made the commitment to a spiritual/personal development journey since 2012, it's the truth. This is not some "Ok, do this and it'll work 100% consistently" kind of thing. You WILL have to experiment, make adjustments, and constantly align. Each one is called to make their own way with magick through the structure and findings he provided. - It's not "practical" In my interpretation, perhaps those who stated this think that it is not practical because the book is not written in a straightforward fashion akin to buzzfeed lists, for example. Just because it's written in an academic fashion doesn't mean you can't apply the steps immediately. Take out your paper, break out the highlighter and if you MEAN IT, you will DO THE WORK. You will look take notes. If it sounds strenuous, it's not as I'm perhaps making it sound. I was able to get a good understanding of the steps in 3 hours. If you're looking to know the process in 3 minutes and not willing to do the work then don't get this book and complain about how you don't want to put in the work and blame the author for being as thorough as possible. Let's say you don't have 3 hours. Skip the intro and get to the part with the steps. There. But a fast application usually has sloppy results. - Confusing, verbose, inconclusive It's confusing if you're not paying attention or lack the reading skills to be able to skim and scan info. You don't have to read everything if you know how to look for the info you're looking for. It's detailed because the author looks to what fellow practitioners have done to give authority to the techniques he says. Stick with it. Magick adheres to the laws of the universe, but it is not necessarily so strict. You have a degree of control and it is in that space in which you can create your own through what was laid out in the book. Hope this helps. ... show more

  • Fascinating Book From A Top Magician Of Our Time
This book is a scholarly erudite explanation on the sigil magick method, a method devoid of occultist hubris or moral overtones. I liken the practice to a hammer- you can build a house or hit someone in the head- its a tool, your choice what you do with it. Now I am Just a dabbler but i plan on getting into this deeper. Frater UD gives you the foundation, its up to you to build the house. A great holistic magickal programme that he wrote was High Magic 1 and 2.(Ive inserted the links at the end of this review) I like Frater UDs style because it mostly avoids the dogma that you see in other books.Remember that work makes you special not reading. • Excellent & solid start for magic
So, being an individual with no magick experience whatsoever nor having any pre-concieved notion on what to expect from this book, I would say this would be a good place to start. I recently received this book and read it from cover to cover and started following the steps and advice for sigil work. I must say (and this is regardlesss of whether you know or think you know where, what, how and why magick works) that I began to see the results manifest itself in a very short amount of time (as early as a week!). Now does that mean that your every desire and dream will come true?? Well, think of it this way: If your desire is to win the lottery, you have to buy a lottery ticket first. Don't think that just by following the steps a bag of money is gonna fall out of the sky. Granted that is a pretty flimsy example but my point is, is that if you put forth your best, the sigil will do the rest! The author also has a very straight, pragmatic way of laying out the procedure for construction and creation, drawing methods, charging the sigil, and banishing the sigil. Like I said, this book seems to be an introductory method for sigil work and I'm sure that there are other methods and template ideas on how to work with sigils but this book (for me that is) seems to be a good way to get started on the right path. The author states in his work that one can be flexiable with the methods once you have a 'method' that works for you. From that point, you're on your own as far as sigils go. Overall, the material is excellent, laid out well and easy to understand. My reasoning for giving it 4 stars is that the book is short (only like 130 pages) and I wish that there was more information. Otherwise, a great purchase. No regrets! ... show more

  • success with sigils
I saw this book advertised online. I wasn't really aware of what "sigils" were, but the idea of magic with words and symbols was intriguing. To be sure, magic be scary--like discerning the names of angels or spirits and trying to gain their favor--or nonsensical--like poking a colored candle or staring into a flame. The prospect of sigil/symbol magic appeared artistic as well as mystical. The object is to write a sentence (about what you want), cross our vowels/repeated letters, then make the remaining letters into a symbol (or sigil). Be as expressive as you want. Put the sigil away and let the "universe" take over. As far as my own sigil magic, I don't have a girlfriend, and my book isn't a hot seller yet. ... show more

  • Great for a beginner
This book is great for someone who is beginning their path in learning about the occult let alone sigil magic. I enjoyed the book there was some fluff but new information to learn from.
