  • Great AMERICAN MADE tool box
This is easily the best small tool box I have bought in the last 20 years. I always buy these small tool boxes with some frequently used tools in my car just in case. I have bought several over the years because they are all junk and don't last long. All the other ones are made cheap now in Mexico and believe me you can tell. All the latches are plastic that wears out fast and the tool bags are awful as well but they are all you can find at Lowe's or harbor freight or any of the other box stores so was stuck buying them again and again. This time thank goodness I was looking around on Amazon for something else actually and ran across this Plano box and man what a difference I read the other reviews and decided to give it a shot and its made like they used to make them all with metal latches sturdy made and a huge bonus is even waterproof so your tools won't rust inside this box and it is still made right here in America so buying it helps keep jobs here. I love this tool box and would HIGHLY recommend it to anybody ... show more

  • lid has plastic hinge pins
This Plano, Made in USA, toolbox is shown in the 10 best toolboxes Amazon video as number 5, and for the price, seems an outstanding value. However, when the actual item arrived today, the lid (rear) hinges that must take all of the weight of the time when laden (along with the metal latch loops over plastic) have *PLASTIC* hinge pins, not metal. Quality boxes that use plastic barrels (or knuckles) for a hinge use metal hinge pins. This item uses plastic knuckles that "snap over" the plastic hinge pins that are part of the molded lid (molded as an integral part of the lid). My experience is that such pins fracture and fail under load. The item is designed to hold "larger" tools -- these get somewhat heavy. If Plano personnel read these reviews, what is the equivalent model with metal latches (or latch loops) and a metal hinge pin? ... show more

  • Yes, it's sturdy. Solid build. Not flimsy like other China-made crap is these days.
I bought one of these 10 years ago at an Autozone and I LOVE it. Perfect for my giant Rigid Impact Drill and all it's accessories. You just can't find these things in stores. Finally found it here. Just might buy another, just in case.

  • Solid Multi Purpose Box
This is a very versatile box. It is intended to be used as tool box, with a removable inside tray. However, it is great for any sort of storage. If you need more room, just leave the inert out, then you have pretty deep shell for what every you need. Additionally, I have seen these used as a project box by drilling holes for switches or outlets for whatever project you might dream up. Overall, it is a great value for the level of flexibility it offers. ... show more

  • Good Size for Home Tool Box
I got this tool box to clean out the junk drawer, which had been overtaken with tools. It is a little on the big size, so it does take a bit more space in the closet than I'd hoped, but worth the extra space cost to be able to put all the tools in one place. Comfortably fits the hammers, channel locks, C wrenches, long screwdrivers, and all the little things like allen wrenches. Gave me my drawer back and is still very much a household tool box and not one that belongs in the garage. ... show more

  • Good value, durable, simple
Going to use this toolbox primarily to hold mags and cleaning supplies for my firearm! It's very durable plastic and should up just fine. It's pretty spacious too so I'll be able to fit most everything I need to in there. I bought so foam to line the bottom with so my okay surefeeds don't bang and rattle so much. I noticed the lock tab wasn't drilled out very well but man that's a minor defect. A hammer and a screwdriver will open that hole up and it'll be good to go. This toolbox is gonna get banged up anyway so it isn't exactly meant to be pretty! That's the only flaw I've found so far and that's negligible to me and won't affect its purpose. Oh yeah heads up the "brass" brackets sure do look nice and shiny but they are plastic lol but again that's okay, it keeps shut no problem. I reckon you could replace them with metal ones if you really wanted to! ... show more

  • Appears to be sturdy but time will tell
It seems to be sturdy, even if the latches would fail (they are mostly plastic) there is a spot in the center to be able to put a lock or something else to keep the lid closed. It should work well for my purchase though. I bought it for art supplies so that they can easily be transported (paints, brushes). I did make it look a little fancy by using a stencil I made and spray painting the design (I sanded the area first). I think this will work fine for my intended purchase. ... show more

  • Love my microscope carrying case!
Update 2021/06/30: Still delighted with this purchase. I’ve hauled my microscope around in this tool box for about six years of biology labs. FWIW, photos (1,2,3) show one way you might pack microscope parts with egg crate foam, bubble wrap, and plastic bags. I separate head and eyepieces from main body but YMMV. A standard school supply box fits nicely on one end for bits and pieces. * * * * * Sturdy and deep. Good handle. Latches are plastic but strong. Tray comes right out. With some egg-crate foam inserted, this tool box makes a super microscope carrying case! It even has room for a school supply box with objective lenses, immersion oil, and slides; a small digital microscope, power cord, and rolled-up dust cover. This is the best and cheapest solution I've found for toting a microscope to biology classes and other adventures. Off to homeschool co-op? This budget-friendly approach beats the classic laundry basket with beach towels. John Lind of Great Scopes pointed me to his web page that shows how to do this. Easy DIY. He recommended this precise Plano tool box, which I could not find locally. I'm so grateful! I don't think I can insert the instructional URL here, and don't want to push Amazon's rules about promotional content, so if you are interested, try a site search for "Make a Carry Case for Your Microscope" at his site. Good pictures and explanation. Note: photo that shows white egg crating in lid is Mr. Lind's -- not mine. ... show more
