Many people don't grasp how high the cost of gold has become in the past few years. Gold is a commodity that is traded globally, and the price fluctuates literally daily. (As of this writing, gold spot price is $1496.00 per troy ounce; silver current price is $17.86 per troy oz.) In the past decade, the price of gold has increased five-fold--it was running at around $300 per troy ounce. Older people today don't understand why tiny, flimsy pieces of gold jewelry are so expensive...I've done some research on this matter, and there are a lot of factors at work. Too complicated for this review, but basically some nations who are gearing up their manufacturing capabilities are more-or-less "hoarding" gold, which in turn increases prices elsewhere--it's supply-and-demand. American companies who are having most of their work done overseas, due to lower labor costs, have contributed to the problem, unfortunately. There are also "political" issues, such as Great Britain moving to drop the Euro. Whenever there are unstable economies and fluctuating currency issues, certain entities will begin to buy up gold--it's been that way for a long time. Gold has been valued for centuries, and it's a reliable commodity. As in, "It's always good to have a little gold, and more gold is better." Just trying to simplify (or, over-simplify) things. The same goes for the diamond trade--how many diamonds are "released" into the global market each year is controlled by an international cartel; diamonds aren't actually as rare as many of us are led to believe. I like fine jewelry, but am retired and live on a limited (but adequate) income. It's nice to be able to give the granddaughters and other loved ones a nice piece of jewelry as a gift. Often nice, moderately priced pendants go on sale, and there are always auctions and estate sales. Gold lasts--a good jeweler can clean up a vintage piece and have it looking like new. But the problem is the chains--in both necklaces and bracelets. Many women have nice pendants sitting in their jewelry boxes but the chains have broken, and the cost of a good sturdy chain today can exceed the cost of the pendant itself. Some companies are even coming out with gold chains in which the links are hollow (lower gram weight keeps the cost down), or the chain is so thin it will barely support the weight of the pendant. Cheap gold chains just break, even with gentle use. I have a few pendants to give as holiday and birthday gifts this year, and have been looking online for some bargains. This Figaro chain is really lovely and I'm glad I found it on Amazon. It measures about 2mm (or, over 1/16") in width, as advertised. This comes in varying lengths; taller women will generally want longer chains, but it's a personal preference. A large, heavy pendant will require a heavier, sturdier chain of course. (As an aside, bracelets take a beating just in normal day-to-day activities; try to avoid the hollow links in bracelets--they'll break easily. Don't be afraid to ask the seller if it isn't specified in the product details). I would like to add that, typically, gold chains and bracelets don't go on sale--or, not on clearance sales. Gold items can easily be melted down and made into something else. Just be realistic--comparison shop and find the best deal you can. There are many people with sensitivities to metal--especially nickel in sterling silver--and gold is the only thing they can wear without having a skin reaction--swelling, redness and pain. There are some decent gold-over-silver plated items today that look pretty good, but the plating will eventually wear off, depending on how good the plating is and how often the piece is worn. This particular chain is really nice and I paid a lot less for it than I would have at a regular brick-and-mortar jewelry store. It also has a good, sturdy looking lobster claw clasp. I highly recommend this product and wouldn't hesitate to deal with this seller again. Comes nicely boxed with "10 Karat Gold" stamped on the inside of the box--ready for giving (or just keeping!) If I could swing it right now, I'd buy several! Hope this helps others.

I love this chain because it is sturdy looking but not too heavy. It has the lobster claw that fastens easily & I love the look & feel of it. I was looking for 14k but haven’t been able to find one that looked this good for the money.

The media could not be loaded. Chain tooooo thin & broke without warning. It didn’t get caught on anything. Definitely not worth paying nearly $150!!! Edit: After contacting seller they were very helpful!!!

This necklace was exactly what I was looking for. I got this for my son along with a separate angle wing in memory of his grandmother. I'm glad I could find one that was small enough. And the quilty is 100% money well spent.
