In my quest to reduce my carbon footprint in my home theater situation, I decided to start researching soundboard again.. I currently have a Yamaha 5.1 Home Theater in a box that has been serving me so well for the last 6 years.. up until most recently when it cannot support 4K HDR, and I decided I wanted to reduce all the clutter of wiring everywhere for the speakers and subwoofer.. Polk has been a staple in the audio community for quite a very very long time, and to be honest it’s well known for its quality products.. that kinda stops here sadly.. I did a lot of research because I wanted a soundbar that could handle 4K HDR, have multiple HDMI inputs, a good solid subwoofer that’s got some bass, and a soundbar that can produce clear quality sound while still maintaining a very very small footprint. This one hit all the marks, sort of.. installation was easy, and getting it set up wasn’t hard either. I plugged in my Apple TV, and my PS5, and it immediately decided 4K HDR at 60hz with no issues.. setting up the sound, is where it became hard. The subwoofer is very boomy, and loud.. it produced some real low down bass but was clean and crisp and I never turned it up over halfway. The soundbar itself is a 2.1 and it was clear when I watched Tranformers 5 that it needs a center channel and be a 3.1 The only thing that could help the dialogue and center channel simulation was turning up the Voice setting almost all the way so it would combine both left and right to simulate a center channel. Movie mode was the best out of all of them, and the 3D mode was too animated and was too overpowering/overwhelming and created a poor sounding 3D stage.. this can be paired with the SR surround speakers but I didn’t get those so I can’t speak on how that works. The dialogues were clear and crisp even for a 2.1, but at the same time it was overpowered by the action sound effects and what not. Even when I switched from Transformers 5 to Pirates of the Caribbean Johnny Depps voice was weak and audible but not very audible, and a lot of the ambient sound effects such as the water crashing on the boats, people talking and working even down the footsteps on the wood planks were louder than his voice.. The soundbar seems to be geared more for no audio decoding and just direct HDMI to soundbar sound. I decided to switch over to my PS5 and play some games to check out the sound and ability to pass through the 4K HDR.. it did the 4k HDR without a hitch.. as far as sound goes? No thanks.. I played with it for 30mins straight and could not get a good sound from the soundbar at all.. I adjusted all the settings on my ps5 and on the soundbar but no matter what I did, it just did not work and sound good.. certain sounds sounded like they were made in a cave with extreme amounts of reverb which made the gaming experience very unpleasant.. some games that had dialogue wouldn’t even play because the game was decoded for a 5.1 home theater, or a 3.1 even. On top of that the soundbar would stop playing once every 10/15mins for about 5 seconds and turn back on.. with my Apple TV I never had that issue, it was only present on gaming. What’s even worse is that when I switched from my PS5 and back to my Apple TV, the sound stopped altogether.. I did all the troubleshooting in the manual and the only thing that fixed it was turning everything off and back on again.. it also started popping when turning on or switching HDMI inputs which was kind of concerning.. I unfortunately am returning the soundbar due to a lot of technical issues and just overall poor performance of it.. for my use and wants it didn’t meet any of them as I expected, so I cannot recommend this soundbar to anyone except for those who just want to add a little extra oomph to their TV and use ARC only.. Overall, Polk Audio has a great concept for a simplistic soundbar for the average Joe and I can recommend it to those who like mention, just want that little extra oomph.. but to replace a home theater, I’d suggest looking at the Magnifi Max AX or the Max AX SR or even the Nakamichi Shockwave line up. ... show more

Right midrange and tweeter distort at badly at certain frequencies. Still trying find out if its bluetooth or amp. No foward firinf speakers on sound bar. Package had been opened before. Verry dissapointed with product. Do not reccomend! I placed my bluetooth and WIFI antenna closer and the blue tooth distortion stopped. Will purchase SR 2 speakers! ... show more

The Polk soundbar is a quality item but if you are expecting to cast music from any device using the Google Home app you are better off looking elsewhere. The Google app, as others have stated, is garbage. Even the Polk website recognizes it as well and will tell you when you call their support services as I did. Support told me to return the soundbar and DO NOT install the Google app!!! I explained to support that the instruction manual said to install it if I wanted firmware updates and that as soon as I tried installing the app the app said there was a firmware update and began installing it. Then the install froze and that’s why I was calling. Support said if the soundbar works I could keep it but don’t expect to cast anything to to soundbar. They stated that since I just received it that day, I should just return it. I’m still debating returning it because it’s a great sounding loud system. The EQ is really nothing to brag about nor is the surround sound setting. Just adjust the sound the way you like it. The description says it’s not discontinued by the manufacturer but if you look on the Polk Audio website you won’t find this item offered. It’s misleading but that may be why it’s reduced in price but I can’t really say what the original price was. ... show more
