  • Very Clear and Can Get Very Loud if You Want Them To
Bought these on Cyber Monday as they were on sale for $99.00 each. Even at the price they are right now, they are still well worth the price for how good they sound. I bought the Monitor 60's to replace an old pair of Sony's I had been using as front speakers since 2000 in my surround setup. With everything having gone HD and because I wanted our vinyl collection to sound superb, I think I selected a pretty good set of speakers. I have always been happy with Polk sub-woofers, so I wasn't hesitant at all to give their speakers a try. The Monitor 60's have very exceptional clarity. So clear in fact, I found myself turning down the treble a few notches as they were very bright. Have played them with Vinyl, CD, Blu-Rays and streaming music via Bluetooth. Am using a circa 2008 Onkyo 7.1 Surround receiver and though it only puts out 85 watts a channel, these do outstanding and can get very loud, but remain clear and non distorted even at high volumes. The bass is more natural and I would describe it as more punchy than boomy. But I also have my sub-woofer allocated to handle the deeper lows. Settings on my receiver are +4 for treble and +4 for bass (sub set at +6) and that seems to be near the 'sweet spot" for these babies as far as balanced sound. Of course, different factors will determine how you adjust your levels such as room size, etc. They do well with movies, but absolutely shine with music, especially Vinyl playback. You hear everything. You would think you were listening to a CD, that's how clean and clear they are. On a previous review I read someone had issues with the contact plates with the bi-amp wiring posts. I did not experience this issue. Just unscrewed the caps on the binding posts and connected the wire and tightened everything down accordingly. Overall, these are bang for the buck and I'm very happy with this purchase. ... show more

  • BLUF: Exceptionally Sound Purchase for the $$$$.
My recommendation, a great purchase for small to medium size rooms, and small to medium wattage amplifiers/receivers. If looking to project music in large rooms or using high wattage systems, go with a set that has bigger woofers and rated for higher wattage. Resurrected my stored 40+ year old Pioneer SA 6500 integrated amp, TX 6500 Pioneer receiver, and Bose 301 bookshelf speakers. The Bose speaker placement is on my computer shelves, approximately 6 feet above the floor in my small home office. I am no Audiophile, but am a music junkie and appreciate great sound without home modifications. Once I cleaned my 20 watt per channel system (Deoxdit’d jacks and potentiometers), I began enjoying the music while teleworking. However, I wasn’t completely satisfied with the low frequency response (bass) the Bose were providing and decided to augment with floor speakers. After researching different manufacturers and customer reviews, I decided on purchasing the Polk Audio Monitor 60 Series II speakers; since nominal impedance is 8 ohms, has broad frequency response, rated over 100 watts and costs under $350 for a pair. Once received and connected, I had mixed feelings on the purchase. What I think I originally heard were muted speakers that needed break-in; higher frequencies (cymbals) did not sound crisp/clean and bass seemed muted. However my break in at low volume, gradually increasing with time, has changed my perception. Over the past two weeks ago, the speakers have grown on me. Midrange frequencies are absolutely clean and life like, with amplified acoustic guitars really sounding incredible. Higher frequencies are becoming cleaner, and bass is close to what I desired when buying. One slight drawback is the bass. When I purchased the SA-6500 in ‘77, it was paired with Pioneer floor speakers having 8 inch woofers. Those speakers when flexed (above volume 5 setting) would reverberate your soul and the house. This pair doesn’t quite produce the same affect I remember of the bigger Pioneer speakers. However, they do satisfy the soul with deep and rich sound when cranking higher power. Additionally, the Monitor 60s produce excellent spatiality (amphitheater affect), but not phenomenal (concert hall reflecting affect) sound that fully immerses the listener. Naturally part of the issue is my small room, and furniture/speaker placement. The other is current single tweeter design versus a multi-arrayed set up designed to throw sound in different directions; which no manufacturer could produce and sell at the Monitor 60 Series II price point. With all stated, I would purchase again based upon my situation (amp/room/purpose) and experience to date. The sound I get with this set receives a 4+ star rating from me. If based solely on price and what you get, should be rated a 5. When paired with the Bose and my eyes closed, I can perceive I am in a live/concert presentation from the front row. I see purchasing another set of 60s in my future when I upgrade my surround system, with the intent to use as the front speakers. My kudos to Amazon and Polk on service. I purchased the set during the weekend and received notification speakers were shipped first thing Monday with a next week delivery. My first speaker arrived that Friday afternoon. Because UPS stated shipment was delivered via their tracking service, I believed one was lost in transit, or never shipped. I waited until noon the next Monday to call Amazon for assistance. The company representative promptly ordered a replacement; without question. However, later that evening (after 7pm) UPS delivered the second speaker. After logging into my account, I easily canceled the replacement, and confirmed with a follow-up call. I had great customer service during both calls and appreciate the support. My only recommendation would be for the shipping warehouse to write, or stamp, box number when shipping multiple units. This will prevent over anxious customers from perceiving order was not completed properly; yes my confession and apologies. January 2021 update. Relocated home office to finished room over garage. This spaced out the speakers to over 10 feet from left and right channel. I also paired with a Boston Acoustics VR-500 active sub woofer - wired sub woofer to receiver, then Polk Monitor 60 Series II to the sub woofer. The pairing of speakers and placement - back of room for the 60 Series II has created a sound environment that is exceptional; with great spatiality and bass punch. These are awesome speakers when paired with a sub woofer, the right receiver and proper room set-up - I feel like I am in the recording are in the studio. I believe you will be happier purchasing these at a lower price and taking the money saved on 2to buy a nice sub woofer to give these the bass punch, vice spending $500.00 on a pair of other floor speakers only. ... show more

  • Excellent
They sound really good with my Denon receiver. Very pleasant, full sound when turned way up or low and in between. I'm really happy.

  • Polk monitor 60 series ii
I purchased a pair of these speakers as an upgrade/replacement to my 10 year old+ sony surround micro satellite in a box style setup. The upgrade is phenominal. I have just under 2 weeks of time with these as my front left and right mains and I am pleased with the performance. I prefer to listen to them in 2 channel stereo mode, even with my 85 wpc sony avr they sound awesome! I have 2 monitor 70s on the way as I write this which will be replacing these as the mains and these will be moving to the rear channels, not for lack of performance but that has been the plan all along. These 60s do perform well with clear highs, midrange and bass. I have them paired with an 8" sony subwoofer that actually just keeps bumping surprisingly after all the punishment it has endured. I've been listening to a lot of live shows and I couldn't be happier with these modestly priced towers. The presence of sound I get from these has me listening by choice to 2ch stereo and eliminating the center speaker entirely as the imaging i hear almost sounds as the center speaker is on. I will be updating this review once the 70s arrive and have some "break in" time. If you are on the fence as i was and they are on sale id grab a pair. I am very happy i did. ... show more
