  • Great buy if they fit.

This review pertains to replacement of the front (dash) speakers on a 93 Jeep Wrangler YJ. Installation on 93 YJ difficulty level from 01 to 10 is 19. The old speakers weren't factory so with that being said, I couldn't see what actually belonged in there. It wasn't easy but, I trickery'd these speakers in and they sound great. I'm not an expert but please know, it's not my first trip. The four stars are for manufacture quality and how the speakers sound. They handle the highs and lows without distortion. I haven't pushed the envelope though and don't plan to. Regarding fitment, I give 2-3 stars at best for this application. Well, Amazon says they fit a 93 Wrangler YJ but they DO NOT fit properly. To begin with, working on this area of the dash requires the ability to contort your hands and body especially with the design of this Jeep so there isn't much space to work with anyway. Although these speakers can physically fit in the space, the factory mounting bolts DO NOT line up with the speakers despite the zillion holes already in the speaker mount itself because of the universal type speaker set. I know this for sure because I made a cardboard template of the existing bolts in the dash to match up with the speakers. At best, and with a bit of hole enlargement with a drill or dremel tool (not because the holes aren't large enough, but so the studs will actually line up to the holes in the speaker.) Only 3 will line up on the drivers side through the plate because the studs are staggered, one ends up next to the plate so a larger washer is needed to clamp the speaker down with all 4 nuts. The passenger side bolt pattern isn't staggered like the drivers side so 4 bolts will line up after you alter the speaker plate with new holes. Also, I found it impossible to get a wrench to tighten the upper nuts on either side, so I wrapped paper tape on a deep 1/4" drive socket to tighten with two fingers. The bottom bolts can be snugged with a 1/4 drive ratchet on both sides though. Another note: The speaker magnet doesn't allow to mount the speaker flipped so the wire connections can be on the bottom for easier connection because the magnet itself will hit the upper body of the Jeep while maneuvering over the studs. So, I connected the wires to the speakers before I installed them with the magnet furthest away from the body. I recommend soldering all these connections. 1- because it's a better connection for sound and 2- they won't come loose. My recommendations for any vehicle: Look at your existing speaker first while they are still mounted. Use a flashlight and mirror if necessary to possible see they'll fit first. I did mention that Amazon said these would fit my YJ and they don't. They only way I knew they wouldn't fit mine was after I took the old ones out and tried to fit the new ones in. However, you may or may not be faced with the same issues. You can chance it if you like. Tools needed: Patience. Smaller hands. Also, be careful not to damage the speaker itself by the studs in the dash by moving it around. These speakers do not come with grilles or wires. Constructive criticism for the manufacturer: The mounting plate should have the smooth side where the nuts end up for most dash applications. Not the other way around like you have it. Even if these are flush mounted on a door panel or wherever, grille plates are needed to to protect the cones, cover all the nuts, screws and extra holes so they look like they belong wherever they are placed. Not nice cones mounted on a plastic plate riddled with extra holes. My suggestion is to leave the plate blank for a universal mount and provide a grille, even if optional. It's easy enough to drill holes for the exact location and it's less of a manufacture process. People are cutting and trimming these anyway. I imagine though, some people are satisfied with a vibration they might have with only one or two holes lining up. All in all, the speaker itself sounds good. Thank you. ... show more

  • Great Sound With OEM Radio
Product Packaging: Frustration-Free Packaging
I had taken my 2003 Silverado in to have a 100w Bazooka Tube Sub back in 2003 since the OEM head and speakers just couldn't do bass at all. I figured the OEM speakers could just handle the mid-bass and treble. The salesman thought I was crazy, but he and I liked the sound after installing the Bazooka. At the time, the salesman at the stereo shop talked me out of changing out the 4 OEM speakers, and I went with it. Never turned the bass on the head over 25% and adjusted the Bazooka accordingly. Over time I realized the treble had become a little harsh, but I lived with it. Truck got broken into in around 2008, all they took was the Bazooka tube. They would've stole the head had I replaced it...learned that from a prior vehicle...don't replace the stereo, it invites thieves. Insurance company actually replaced the sub with a 250w Bazooka...more power! Now, many years later, 2014, I can tell that I blew at least the front passenger speaker, so time to swap em all out. Thought about a new head unit, but decided to try new speakers with the OEM head first. Picked up a pair of Polk Audio DB651 for the front doors, and a pair of these DB461P for the rear extended cab doors. Wow!!! I had almost never heard any sound coming out of my rear speakers til I installed these. Great highs and mids, and handle a lot more bass than the OEM's ever did. Now I run the OEM head at about 50% bass so I get more mid bass, still letting the Bazooka handle the low bass duties. These speakers all handle max volume of the head while remaining perfectly clear, listening to the heaviest of metal!! Installation was not all that difficult, had to remove all the door panels, plenty of YouTube vids explaining how to do that. Grabbed some of the Metra 72-4568 Speaker Harnesses for $6 a pair making the connections simple. Had to drill in to the inner steel of the door to mount them. Very thin steel there, so not a big deal. Couple hours invested and much better sound. I highly recommend them!!! ... show more

I installed these speakers in my 1982 Corvette. I had to grind part of the plastic corners off to get them to fit in the front dash but they look and sound great.
