Description

The newest chapters in the Pokémon series are coming to the Nintendo Switch system later this year. Catch, battle, and train Pokémon in the Paldea Region, a vast land filled with lakes, towering peaks, wastelands, small towns, and sprawling cities. There is no set path, so you can adventure freely through three grand stories. In one such story, you can challenge Pokémon Gyms in any order you desire as you aim for the Champion Rank! Explore a wide-open world at your own pace and traverse land, water, and air by riding on the form- shifting Legendary Pokémon Koraidon. Choose either Sprigatito, Fuecoco, or Quaxly, to be your first partner Pokémon before setting off on your journey through Paldea. Pokémon in the Paldea region have the ability to Terastallize to gain special power. When a Pokémon Terastallizes, a Tera Jewel appears above its head like a crown, and the Pokémon’s body glistens like a cut gemstone. Each Pokémon has a Tera Type that remains inactive until the Pokémon Terastallizes. For example, most Eevee will have a Normal Tera Type, but some other Eevee have a Flying Tera Type! When a Terastallized Pokémon uses a move that matches its Tera Type and at least one of its original types, the boost to that move’s power will be even greater! Terastallizing holds the key to victory or defeat in battles in the Paldea region. The Paldea Region is home to a prestigious school where people from all sorts of regions come to hone their skills against each other, be it through academics or Pokémon battles. The name of the school, its emblem, its uniforms, and other details will differ depending on whether you play Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet. Take classes with unique teachers who will show you what they know about battling, Pokémon biology, and more. Embark on an independent study called the Treasure Hunt to gain new experiences, meet new people, and find your very own treasure.

  • Victim of Review Bombing
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch Edition: Scarlet
Look, I get it, the game has bugs. But I just finished the entire game, unlike most of the people writing bad reviews, and this is hands down the best Pokemon game they've put out in a LONG time. I've been a fan of these games since the original Ruby and Sapphire, and if I'm being honest I've been really tired of all the gimmicks they keep introducing with every main series title like mega evolutions, gigantamaxing, and this time terastallizing. But it's just something I've come to accept as a fan and is mostly not too offensive, and becomes normal after the first like 2 hours of gameplay. The glitches and bugs people are currently using as ammo to review bomb this game are varied from person to person it seems but here was my personal experience. Firstly I played almost exclusively in handheld mode my entire playthrough, I'm not sure if that makes a difference in performance but thought I should mention it. The game has occasional shadows flashing between sunlight and shade when you're under a mountain or hill. The camera sometimes slightly clips through the ground so the bottom 1cm of your display can see under the world. I had trainers I beat do a quick 720 spin in place after I beat them. And once when I was connected to online and starting a raid I got stuck in a loading screen and had to close the game and restart it. Finally there were a few moments when my framerate slowed down for a minute or two, but usually didn't persist that long. Now the main caveat to all of those bugs, is that they occurred few and far between. Honestly I hardly noticed them most of the time, so maybe I got lucky and my copy was somehow more stable than others? To be clear I am not trying to apologize for Gamefreak by saying these bugs aren't worth mentioning because they are, and the complaint is valid, this game wasn't ready to be released just yet. However to say that something so small disqualifies an otherwise really impressive game is such an overcorrection it hurts. Like I mentioned, I have been a fan of the franchise for a very very long time. I was expecting to hate this game, but was just buying it to give it a fair chance. I didn't like Legends Archeus, I didn't like the Diamond and Pearl remakes, I didn't like Sword and Shield that much tbh. But having just completed the entire story of this game, I was genuinely amazed how much I liked this game. And even going into this game with admittedly negative bias working against it's odds, it still managed to win me over and completely flip my expectations on their head. Why? The story had ACTUAL EFFORT put into it, which any fan will tell you this franchise has needed DESPIRATELY for a long time. The characters were surprisingly well developed and you have a real plot and a real relationship with them as you progress. The open world is much more interesting and diverse than it was in Sword and Shield and Arceus. This open world actually makes me want to explore it more and see what I can find in every nook and cranny for items or more species of Pokemon I haven't run into yet. There are great quality of life changes like being able to retroactively remind your Pokemon of past moves at all times without restriction and on the fly. The economy is massively improved by giving you two currencies to earn and use interchangeably. As well as a host of new things to spend your money on instead of just 999x Full Restores, revives, and every kind of Pokeball once again. Honestly there are too many things I like about this game to type them all out here but suffice it to say in my opinion it's a joke to be writing this game off because of what are a handful of mostly minor graphical glitches. Glitches mind you that can and probably will be patched out at some point. I greatly appreciate the effort that was put into this game by Gamefreak because I recognize that this is legitimately the best work they've done on the main series in long time! And I hate that the people who worked hard on this game seeing this tidal wave of hate because the bugs didn't get ironed out and it tripped at the finish line. Aside from shipping early and giving a few bugs with their game I hope Gamefreak is proud of this title because they deserve to be. And if you're seriously out here writing hate reviews without having finished the game you're acting in bad faith, and didn't even bother giving the game a fair shot to begin with. I hope more than anything either the bugs get fixed soon or more people persist and see what this game really has to offer because right now it's heartbreaking seeing Gamefreak's work being put down for such a minor issue. TLDR: Yeah the game has bugs, but they're few and far between and very minor graphical glitches. The overall experience, gameplay, story, quality of life changes make this the best Pokemon title in years. If not for bugs this would be a 10/10 would play again. ... show more

  • Same formula underneath some new tricks.
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch Edition: Scarlet
If you know what pokémon and their games are like ,skip this paragraph . If you don't : Pokémon , short for POcKEt MONsters , is a turn-based role playing game where you play a character who's coming of age to own their first pokémon and go battle wild pokémon and other people who use pokémon to battle . The monsters come in a variety of shapes from simple animals with themed coloring to animated objects to unique humanoid creatures inspired by loose concepts and cryptid monsters. The monsters all are generally presented as happy/content with their roles and most of the humans in the universe consider them friends and companions rather and tools/ways to get things. Now with that out of the way , this game is a notable step for the main series , taking steps that the "Pokémon Legends" games started but going beyond by going truly open world with you being able to use a special pokémon to travel from the house you start in to the final area's gate without ever seeing a loading screen . They also have changed things up by splitting up the rather on rails formula of previous games between 3 different paths that converge: 1. Is the typical 8 Gyms that specialize in a single type of pokémon of older games though they all come with a mini game from before you can fight the gym's leadership. 2. Finding a mystical herb to improve the abilities of the special tag along pokémon that adorns the cover , as well as help the local professor's son achieve a small goal . & 3.Taking down the bad guy team of the region , this region's being Team Star , a group of bike punks who've made small havens through out the world , sometimes blocking your path from the above 2 options. Due to the implementation of these changes and a few more I can't spoil , I wlll not say this is a bad game , but I will say this is a game that is troubled by how the switch handles it or the game was developed in terms of Preformance and glitches. If you've been around the internet you've probably seen the images and or videos of various glitches . I can't speak to those but I can speak to the fact that I only had a handful (less than 10) issues with the game over 200 hours . There's a lot to offer here and as the price goes down I can't say it will be a bad price .there's also dlc that's been (as of this review ) recently announced that may add some values . 8/10 or 4/5 stare Parents on the look out if this is right for your child: -The game is focused on fighting but the way fighting is done is solely via fantasy creature who don't physically impact /attack except for special cases . -Several characters you may encounter wear things akin to body hugging tight clothing as a part of their outfits but no visible features to suggest sexually thigns . -There is a mention of a human being dead by the result of pokémon attacking them as apart of the main story , but it's never depicted outside of showing what appears to be a POV of a monster using an attack but no human shown . This is the only depiction of pokémon and human violence with pokémon normally unable hurt humans in gameplay. - Several teens engage in criminal behavior that while shown to be negative , is down played slightly due to them being friendly toward the player and their allies in the end. - Due to visual glitches there are sometimes positioning of pokémon or npc (and other players characters while playing online) in the world that can appear inappropriate via sometimes random chance. - The only way to play /trade/connect to players outside of one-off battles or trading is via exchanging of friend codes or linking up through a pass phrase that both parties must input in the match making menu for online play. - There are name restrictions to make sure a pokémon or player characters can't be nick named something inappropriate. ... show more
