Description

Live the life of a Pokémon Trainer and help protect the peace in Lumiose City! Lumiose City—a home for people and Pokémon alike. Thanks to an urban redevelopment plan driven by Quasartico Inc., the lush greenery of verdant parks intermingles with facilities using the latest cutting-edge technology. A lot has changed here since the days of the Pokémon™ X and Pokémon Y games! Choose Chikorita, Tepig, or Totodile as your first partner Pokémon, and then set off on a grand adventure! Your journey will take you to all manner of sights in the streets arrayed around Prism Tower, including shops, restaurants, and places called wild zones—where Pokémon roam free. As you catch, train, and battle Pokémon, there will be plenty of people to meet too—like AZ, the enigmatic owner of Hotel Z, and Team MZ, the crew that aims to keep Lumiose a peaceful place. Catch, battle, and Mega Evolve—all in real time! Step onto the battlefield and command your Pokémon directly—there are no turns! For the first time in the Pokémon RPG series, Trainers and their Pokémon can both move around in real-time battles, and your Pokémon will unleash their moves when you tell them to. Strategically swapping out your Pokémon and accounting for each move’s timing and area of effect will greatly help you in this new style of battle. Harness the power of Mega Evolution! Unleash your Pokémon’s hidden energy to temporarily transform its appearance, enhance its capabilities, and perhaps even change its type. Use this power wisely and try to overcome your toughest challenges, like those posed by the rampaging Rogue Mega-Evolved Pokémon across Lumiose City. Investigate these dangerous incidents so you can put a stop to them—you may even encounter new Mega-Evolved Pokémon along the way! Compete in the Z-A Royale when night falls—or battle with other players in the Z-A Battle Club You’re invited to join the Z-A Royale, a competition for Pokémon Trainers to test their skills and determine who’s strongest. Each night, a battle zone for the competition will appear. Prepare yourself by spending the day catching and training Pokémon, then venture into the battle zone to take on other Trainers. Be strategic and complete bonus card challenges as you battle to speed up your climb from Rank Z to Rank A. Reach the top, and you might just have a wish granted. You can also test your skills against friends or Trainers around the world in the Z-A Battle Club. Take on up to three other Trainers at once, locally or online, in frenetic real-time battles! • A Must-Have Game!!!!
Platform: Nintendo Switch Edition: Game only
I got this game for my birthday and it is easily one of the BEST Pokémon games I’ve ever played. I started out playing Pokémon X and Y on the 3DS and this game really takes me back. I really love the graphics, the story, the gameplay, all of it. You can’t go wrong with this game in my opinion.

  • Great game, awful rival lol
Platform: Nintendo Switch Edition: Game only
Gameplay is super fun and enjoyable! Some aspects of the story are a bit boring, and the level design is positively awful, but the good news is at least theres fast travel pretty much everywhere. This game might look a bit better on the switch 2, but on the switch its kinda rough. The ranked mode is quite fun, and the pokemon selection and megas are fantastic! Overall, would recommend for any pokemon fan. just keep in mind the environment design is not great. ... show more

  • Pretty fun
Platform: Nintendo Switch Edition: Game only
This game was way more fun than I anticipated. I know that the game has gotten a lot of flack since it released for having a small map, a small Pokedex, the graphics, etc. etc. but honestly, the game is a ton of fun. I actually didn't know that much about it, I only saw snippets of gameplay before the release and purchased it because the gameplay looked like a ton of fun, and also I was curious about the aftermath of what happened in X&Y. I did have some gripes with the game in terms of some gameplay, some of the dialogue options, and so forth, but overall they were completely overridden by how much I enjoyed the game. I've put in somewhere around 240 hours into the game shiny hunting, doing the quests, exploring, and so forth, and I still haven't completed the shiny charm yet. I also enjoy playing the online ranked, but totally understand people's gripes with it as well. I play quite casually so I don't take it as seriously, but I do agree that I wish it had some sort of assist system which helped you get points too, because only getting a point for final kill is pretty annoying. Overall though, I really enjoyed the game, the story, the characters, and the gameplay a lot. At the very least, I've definitely gotten my money's worth out of the game lmao. ... show more

  • Very different than other Pokemon games!
Platform: Nintendo Switch Edition: Game only
Super fun Pokémon game for switch 1! We love this game. It is modern which is very different than other Pokémon games and has completely new style of battling. Highly recommend for someone looking to play Pokemon in a different way.

  • Legends: Z? or A-?
Platform: Nintendo Switch Edition: Game only
So, elephant in the room, this game is not as good as Legends: Arceus. However, so much of the hatred surrounding this game is based on graphics and supposed performance issues. I have had zero lag running on my original Switch from 2017. The graphics are not mind-blowing, but far from terrible. The gameplay is amazing, and the story is fantastic. Don't let the haters deter you from purchasing this game. It's an enjoyable adventure and worth the price tag, compared to other games I've played recently. ... show more

  • A great change of pace for Pokemon!
Platform: Nintendo Switch Edition: Game only
A great change of pace for Pokemon! I have played a lot of Pokemon games over the years and while I love and appreciate the classic 2D style and gameplay of games like Pokemon Heartgold, Ruby, Firered, etc, I have also thoroughly enjoyed the newer games like Pokemon Sword and Shield and Pokemon legends Arceus. Legends ZA has many new elements to the game some for the better and some for worse. First of all, let’s talk about the new map. I found myself enjoying the new wild zones, battle zones, new areas and buildings to explore, and a refreshing new world with a Paris theme design. After putting nearly 40 hours into the game, I am still finding new buildings I haven’t scaled yet and items I hadn’t found. The map isn’t enormous but it is big enough to keep the game entertaining even after hours of exploring. The gameplay: honestly one the best gameplay mechanics of ANY Pokemon game. Way better than Scarlet and Violet and I would say it’s even better than Arceus. It is so fast paced and the battle mechanics are so fun and engaging, it feels more like a Pokemon battle than ever before! For the first time, it’s now strategic to have weaker moves that have a quicker movement speeds to finish off opponents before they have a chance to hit you. Certain moves require you to be right next to the opponents Pokemon so you can build a move set for certain Pokemon that plays to that advantage, or build a special move set to snipe off opponents before they can reach you. The Mega Evolutions. Instead of new Pokemon in this game, you get new Mega Evolutions and there are a ton to choose from! The design of the new Megas are hit or miss, but I enjoyed most of them. The story: holy crap is there a lot of unskippable dialogue. This is one of the biggest drawbacks of this game. The story is ok, but not anything mind blowing. I found myself spamming A while doing something else because the dialogue would just go on and on and on about literally nothing. Like Taunie, NO WE DONT NEED ANOTHER TEAM MEETING! I also wish there was another big side mission or activity to do along the way other than doing random odd jobs for NPCs. Most of the side missions are about finding a certain Pokemon for somebody or just simply battling them and it does get repetitive after a while. Shiny hunting and alpha hunting are fun, but once you find all the Pokemon in a certain wild zone, you don’t really need to go back to that zone again, so it kind of feels like that area of the map is obsolete. Overall, it’s a really fun game and worth picking up if you are looking for something new ... show more

  • A Step in the Right Direction
Platform: Nintendo Switch Edition: Game only
After 75 hours of gameplay and wrapping up the game, I have determined this...ZA is a LOT of a fun. Solid 8/10, if I had to give it a score. I've played every Pokemon game since Gen 1, and ZA offers a different experience without taking away what makes Pokemon so endearing. It isn't perfect (no game is.) For a group of fans, lack of voice acting for the humans is an issue. Personally- it wasn't for me, as I've lived through the era of RPGs that had bare minimum voice acting. So if you have similar experiences, I doubt it will be a deal breaker for you. What may be a deal breaker is that this is the Pokemon game with the least amount of diverse environments. You are kept within Lumiose City, which slowly changes but is still just in the city. For me, I appreciated it for a reason I'll explain later. However, if you play Pokemon becuase you love adventuring through a region- then ZA may not fulfill that for you. This game also has one of the smallest rosters of available Pokemon to catch. It makes it easy to 100% the Pokedex. However, if you're picky with which Pokemon you enjoy, then you may want to check if your faves are in this game. What the game lacks in diverse environments, it makes up for it with diverse NPC and Pokemon interactions. This is one of the reasons the confined setting works me. ZA is the Pokemon game that really explores the relationships between humans and Pokemon within an urban setting. The player will see how Pokemon and humans form bonds. Other times, you'll see how they just learn to co-exist. It's something I only really saw explored in the anime. I really enjoyed engaging with the concept through ZA. Speaking of NPCs, I think ZA has one of the best cast of characters in the Pokemon franchise. This is another benefit of staying in Lumiose City. The player will interact with the same characters, and you'll get to know them pretty well. The writing is also really fun and ZA has some of the best dialogue that Pokemon has had in a while. Finally, the new battle system. If there's something I want GameFreak to know, it's this. Please improve and implement this battle system into mainstream Pokemon games. It completely changed how I play Pokemon. There were battles that actually worried me, because I could lose if I wasn't prepared or paying attention. I haven't felt like that since I was a kid. If you're a Pokemon fan who has grown tired of its turn-based battle system, then I recommend giving ZA a chance. Was it worth the price? For me, it was. I put in a lot of hours into this game and don't regret it. I think ZA is the step in the right direction that Pokemon absolutely needs. If you're a Pokemon fan who relates/appreciates anything I've said, then I'd recommend you give it a chance. If the price is too intimidating, then wait for it to go on sale 😉 ... show more
