Description

Based on a true story. On the final day of school in a small Polish town, it's 12 year-old Gabrysia's last chance to tell her classmate she has fallen in love with him. She sets up a secret meeting and blackmails her love interest into showing up. • Bleak commentary on humanity.
Bleak and grueling portrayal of tragic real life events. Not an easy watch. People freaked out when this movie was released and questioned it's purpose (which was of course exactly why I was so curious to see it). It's not a pleasant story but after grinding through it I think I may understand it's intent or message in that sometimes there is just no clear explanation for horrific acts committed by humans. Sometimes we just do cruel, impulsive and awful things. We like to think we are civilized and adhere to basic moral codes. But in the end sometimes we just do awful things. Even children. So if anyone is looking for a cinematic exploration into the psyche of the characters involved in this tragic real life event don't expect any great revelation from this film. But again I believe that may be the whole point and why I find films like this to be so necessary even if they fail to draw any clear conclusions. Sometimes there is no answer. ... show more

  • Disturbing Polish Thriller
Great and very disturbing in the last act in this Polish thriller. It is definitely something that happens in the last act, you will not soon forget. Very disturbing but an excellent movie.....

  • This is beyond dark.
I'm not a fan of happy ever after films. I prefer action, suspense, war, etc. This movie is way past noire way more that bombing civilians and worse than concentration camps. There are no light moments, no kind of redemption and I can't see any point to it. Are we being told that anyone can commit a horrific crime. These kids all have some unhappy parts in their lives. I know that teens will exaggerate their problems. But what the heck happened? Maybe the only good thing I can say is that the girl gets to walk away from the two boys. I don't recommend this movie to anyone. There is nothing to learn. No message that a viewer can take away.I sure hope no young people see it. ... show more

  • Harsh and violent
This is the story of the horrific murder of James Bu;ger, at least one director's take on it. Three preteens from varying economic backgrounds and equally diverse home lives go to the same school. Disturbing bullying scenes follow. After school, two of them continue on to commit a terrible crime. Very shocking violence to a small child is portrayed. I do believe this film does justice to little James by making us take another look at root causes of violence. ... show more

  • a little too real
I couldn't watch the horrific scenes at the end. it almost gave me a panic attack. but the movie was ok. it definitely looks to be about the james bulger murder in 1993.

  • pointless
This, as others have mentioned, Is based on the murder of a 2 year old. The worst part about it is the two "boys" only served 8 years. Why anyone would want to make a film about this cruel, sadistic crime is beyond my understanding.
