  • Solid starter option
Size: SP180 set
After having owned this for about 18 months it's finally starting to give up, but that's to be expected at this price point and the time it did last it worked decently enough as a first airbrush. Now comparing it to some higher end airbrushes I have (Iwata NEO, GSI Procon Boy, Sparmax SP-20, Badger 105) it falls short obviously, but for the price and everything it comes with to get started minus a compressor, it's good value for a beginner's first airbrush. It clogs a bit easily, and the spray is not as fine as some better brands, but it will get the job done if you're willing to be patient and clean it thoroughly. I don't recommend using the 0.2 needle with water or alcohol based paints, it's too fine and will clog quickly unless you overthin the paint to the point it doesn't cover hardly at all, then you end up with dry tip trying to build up layers. 0.2 is fine for solvent based paints I find. 0.3 or 0.5 will work better with common water based hobby paints like Vallejo, Tamiya (if thinned w/alcohol instead of lacquer thinner), Mission, etc. Do not put Stynlrez through this thing, even with the 0.5, it doesn't push enough air even at 30+psi. You'll be in for a bad time. ... show more

  • A really nice product and value
Size: SP180 set
I recently purchased this airbrush to convert from "rattle can" painting to more precise control of my train models for me and for friends. I have found this airbrush to be very cleanly and precisely made, and easy to use. After a few how-to videos I am on my way to doing really nice work-- so much better than the cans. This is moderately priced, and very well machined and made. Lots of parts that go together to get the resulting quality product, After a question from me they followed thru and sent me an additional part that completed my purchase. I would recommend this product highly. ... show more

  • Great Airbrush for the Price
Size: SP180 set
For the price of this airbrush it’s a great little buy. There are some bad things but that doesn’t out weigh the good. First the good things: So far this feels really sturdy, it has some heft to it. It has a big nice bowl for holding lots of paint. The chrome finish looks nice and is clean. The adjustable air flow on it works great (love that it is on the front of the brush and works nicely). The trigger feels great and is smooth. The trigger stop is a great addition to help prevent pulling the trigger too far back. It can be used without the trigger guard for real close work. Needles were nice and smooth. It laid down a nice coat of paint. Atomization looks good when spraying. Great customer service. Now for the cons: The needle guard was not cut straight (picture). The threads aren’t as fine as more pricey brushes, which makes parts fit really loose until fully tight (needle guide moves up and down). That doesn’t effect the performance from what I can see but could lead to cross threading when reassembling. The .2 and .3 needles were out of line (see picture). I purchased it for base coating miniatures, some detail painting on miniatures, the vented needle guard, and to expand my knowledge on airbrushes of different price ranges. I have a small collection of brushes anywhere from $10 Harbor Freight to $200 Reaper Vex by Badger. Not everyone can afford the high end brushes, I only have a few of the “really good” brushes and that’s debatable pending who you ask. I plan on continuing to use this air brush as part of my cycle. I spoke with customer service about the parts that seemed lacking and they are sending replacement pieces for those. Would I recommend this to a complete beginner? The depends on how mechanically inclined you are, if you are able to understand the mechanics of it then yes. If you don’t understand the mechanics of it then no. For the price it’s hard to beat. ... show more

  • Works great, good customer service
Size: SP180 set
I used this airbrush for painting model kits, and I have to say I was very impressed with its overall performance. It sprays very smoothly, doesn't "pulse" like I've heard some cheaper airbrushes doing, and gives the user a pretty good level of control over their paint. In addition to the good overall performance of the airbrush, the customer service has been very good too. After I broke a piece of the airbrush during cleaning, customer service was quick to offer me replacement parts for free. I only have one real complaint about this airbrush. The rubber O-Rings tend to dissolve over time, fraying and breaking apart as the airbrush is used. I suppose this is to be expected, but if there was any way of making these more durable to the solvents in paint, it would probably have given the airbrush a 5-Star review. All that being said, it's a great piece of hardware for the money, and I heavily recommend it. ... show more

  • A good inexpensive airbrush to start out with
Size: SP180 set
I got this airbrush for detailed painting of fishing lures. This airbrush comes with a 0.2mm needle installed and also with .3 and .5 mm needles. Unfortunately, there isn't a separate nozzle housing for the .3 mm needle. Both the .2 and .3 nozzles use the same housing. I wasn't real happy with the .2 needle so I switched to the .3 needle and it seemed to spray much better. Not sure if this is a housing issue or not. More testing will be required to see if this is the issue. Two other things that I see as minor issues are that the trigger seems to require too much downward pressure and the lack of a case to store it in. With the trigger issue, you need to make sure that you really press down for the airflow, while pulling back for the paint feed. My other airbrush is much more natural with the way the trigger works, where with this airbrush you really have to make sure you are pushing down for the airflow. This has led to a few times in the middle of a stroke where the paint stopped being sprayed. As for the lack of a case, this comes with a couple of separate pieces of foam and a plastic cover put in a bubble wrap bag. The foam pieces keep coming apart and the airbrush pieces fall out. I ended up gluing the foam pieces together to see if I can at least make it usable. Overall, I think this is a decent airbrush for beginners because of the price. I know with the above issues you would expect a lower rating, but it seems well made, almost to the point of being too heavy, but at least it's not cheaply made. I think this will serve the purpose it was purchased for. ... show more
