I was a bit nervous to put fairy hair in my daughters hair, as she’s had it done in the past and has never had the best luck of it staying intact. But the instructions with the pictures are very helpful so I decided to just jump in and try it. It does take some getting used to pulling the hair and tinsel using the hook and distinguishing how much hair to pull through to be placed inside the bead. After the first few it was an easier process after. The concerning part to me was the bead. When we’ve used a professional fairy hair magician there were no beads used. Granted the hair was “sewn” in around locks so it did eventually fall out. But will the bead make brushing and washing hair difficult? Will it pull her hair, will it get tangled when she slept? Can she put it up or braid her hair? We’ve since learned yes and no to all of it. She is aware of them when she brushes her hair but she stops when she hits one and is careful at the crown. It washes fine, she doesn’t go crazy working it through. It didn’t get tangled when she slept and it hasn’t so far pulled her hair. Putting it in a ponytail is a bit more of challenge as you do have to be careful when hitting the bead but it’s been possible, although we have not tried any other fancy hairstyles. So I guess for the price and how long they can stay in it’s worth it. My daughter seems happy with it and it’s managed to actually stay in vs. the “sewn in” process. My tips are to try and gather the locks of hair together being careful not pull stray hairs from around that one area, it seemed to cause an unnatural look after placing the bead. Keep the hair pulled downward when crimping the bead and don’t place it too close too the scalp, as this caused the crimped bead to stick up like a high piggy tail. And you’ll want to be conscious of pulling locks that are under the base of the hair so the bead can be covered afterwards. I have already removed one and that process was easy and didn’t pull on her scalp. I guess this kit is a keeper! ... show more

These are fun and pretty! I put some in my daughters hair last night. It was a little awkward because I’m not great with hair, but I managed to get a streak where she wanted. I love the color of the tinsel (ordered pink) against her brunette hair. I do feel like the crochet hook could be just slightly bigger. There is plenty of room to spare in the head, and it’s hard to grab more than a couple strands of hair or tinsel at a time with the tiny hook. With practice I think I’ll get the hang of it though. ... show more

Wow! I put these in last Thursday (and have washed my multiple times since) and I still have some in on Tuesday (the color didn’t come off either)! <-the ones I hand tied. The crimp came out on Sunday. Yay! This set comes with everything you need to put these in your hair! Even an instruction card (which even tells you how to take the crimps out!) :) I like that it comes with dark and light colored crimps. I love that it comes with pliers (that work really well for jewelry making, By The Way!). The tinsel comes folded in three places, but it’s not kinked or anything and looks sparklicious in my hair. I also love that it's longer than a lot of other tinsel because my hair is longer than most tinsel. The crochet needle sucks. It really does. Use a 2.0 mm regular crochet needle instead, or use a strand of tinsel to pull hair and tinsel through the crimp. Even a piece of string would work better than this “crocket needle.” The crimps and pliers work fine. I really recommend this set because it’s nice to have everything you need in one place. The tinsel is sparkly and even looks good on my highland cow :) Tip: Cut the top of the plastic sleeve, leave the wire holding the tinsel together tied and just pull them out a little by little like that…or else there’ll be a big mess of tinsel on your counter. Tip2: If you have longer hair, tie the tinsel in at the 1/4th or 1/3rd of the tinsel length. It'll still stay in. 8.11.23 Postscript: The last of the hand-tied tinsel came out while blow drying my hair yesterday, which means it lasted two weeks and two days :) Pretty cool, right? ... show more

This hair tinsel is a very pretty pink color. I like that this allows you to get a bit of color into your hair without needing to dye your hair. The added sparkle makes a nice effect in your hair or when adding it into other colored extensions. The tinsel is very long and can be trimmed down (I save anything I cut for future use). I really like that this kit comes with everything you need to install the tinsel in your hair. This is less quantity material than many of the other similar listings. Nice pale pink color though so good if that's what you want I am using this as alternative use.... Making fishing flies for snook, redfish and others. Great material for flies.
