Description

Revisit the first two Pikmin games on the Nintendo Switch™ system! Reintroduce yourself to the plantlike Pikmin and strategic gameplay that this charming series is rooted in. From finding a way home to collecting treasure, Olimar (plus Louie in the Pikmin 2 game) must partner with a parade of Pikmin to survive the harshest of conditions. Both games support optional motion controls for more options when guiding your floral friends. Find your way home in the original Pikmin-plucking adventure Meet Captain Olimar and a capable cast of red, blue, and yellow Pikmin on a dire mission across a larger-than- life planet. Olimar must guide his loveably-leafy companions through obstacles, in battle, and when collecting his missing ship parts. Meet even more Pikmin (and Louie) on a treasure-hunting expedition Swap between Olimar and Louie to divide and conquer in Pikmin 2. Tasked with helping pay off their employer’s debt, the pint-sized pair teams up with Pikmin (including purple and white Pikmin) to collect treasure on...you guessed it...a strange planet. Time ticks away on the surface, but cave systems let you take your time to let your strategy blossom.

  • Nostalgic
Having played both Pikmin and Pikmin 2 on the GameCube, I was excited to hear they had been released for the Switch. These are not remakes, rather the creators kept all the little details and slowness of the originals in their Switch versions. For example, in the first Pikmin, the Pikmin sprout very slowly, and Olimar (the playable character) throws them more slowly than in later games. These processes were kept at there original speeds - which can be a bit frustrating, but I appreciate that they kept it anyway. There are also little features (or perhaps minor bugs) in the originals that were kept - specifically when dismissing your Pikmin squad, sometimes one or two of them will "pretend they didn't hear you". Although some consider this annoying, many others see it as a cute way of giving the Pikmin personality and a mind of their own - I personally think it's a little funny. Overall, I think they are both excellent on the Switch. If you have played one or both on the GameCube and enjoyed them, I believe you will also enjoy playing them on the Switch and will be given a sense of nostalgia and a new appreciation for them. On the other hand, if you are new to Pikmin and Pikmin 2, I would say they are definitely worth playing. If you have played Pikmin 3 or Pikmin 4, they are lower quality than those, but that does not significantly detract from their value or playability. In fact, many people (including myself) consider Pikmin 2 to be the best in the series! What I liked most is that they stayed true to the originals, and the Switch has placed them in HD which is of wonderful quality and allows the player to see more of the fine details that went unnoticeable previously. My biggest critique is that Nintendo did not update their rights to the copyrighted brands they had in Pikmin 2. Thus, all of the name-brand items such as the batteries and bottle caps have been given different names. This was disappointing and takes away a bit of the nostalgia. Afterall, the name-brand items were what connected the Pikmin's world to ours and was a big part of what made Pikmin 2 so iconic. ... show more

  • Fun.
I never played Pikmin when it was originally released so it was great that they rereleased them. The games are great but I can’t speak to how faithful they are to the original since I didn’t play them. But the games are very fun and my seven year old loves them, though they are a lot harder than Pikmin 4 which is the first Pikmin game my son and I ever played. ... show more

  • Finally, these games are accessible!
This is the best possible way to play these classic games. As a lifetime Nintendo fan, I never played these when they first came out on GameCube, and my GameCube died before I got the chance. Pikmin 2 hit the secondary market with a $90 to $120 price tag and I was done. Now to experience these with improved graphics, controls, and all in one package has been phenomenal. The concept still feels so fresh. Pikmin feels a bit like a prototype game being somewhat short (beat it in 2 days with minimal effort) but is a great tutorial for setting up Pikmin 2. Don't wait 20 years to add these to your collection! My teenage self is finally at peace... ... show more

  • Plays perfectly
An excellent recreation of the gamecube games Pikmin 1 and Pikmin 2 without any modifications. I remembered loving playing Pikmin 2 and thought it was a really hard game. It's still a really hard game. Pikmin 3 and 4 have nothing on the frustrating difficulty of these games.
