Description

A festive read-aloud brimming with all the joy and excitement of Christmastime — beginning, of course, with picking out a tree! Part of the magic of the Christmas season stems from the traditions that families and friends take part in every year: hanging up stockings; putting lights in the windows; and, one of the most important of all, picking out and taking home the Christmas tree. With style and warmth, debut author Patricia Toht and Jarvis, the author- illustrator of Alan’s Big, Scary Teeth, evoke all the rituals of decorating the tree — digging out boxes jam-packed with ornaments and tree trimmings, stringing tinsel, and, at long last, turning on those twinkling lights. Joyously drawn and rhythmically written, this celebration of family, friends, and the holiday season is as merry as the tradition it depicts. Read more

  • Nice Lilting Rhythmic Poetic Children's Book All About Decorating the Christmas tree.
"Pick A Pine Tree" by Patrica Toht and illustrated by Jarvis is a small Children's Lilting Rhythmic Poetic Christmas book which measures 7 1/2 inches by 8 3/4 inches and has 32 pages. Each page is printed on heavy paper almost like card stock which is a real plus because children will not tear the pages as quickly. Each page is a full page full color illustration with only one line of poetry text on each page. The artist's illustrations center in on the most important part in the line of poetry on each page. The poem is all about finding a Christmas tree and all the preparations needed to make the tree a truly great finished decorated tree. I like that the author encourages readers to call their friends and relatives to help decorate their Christmas tree and have a tree decorating party. After reading 30 pages of simple rhyming poetic words, the reader is treated to an extra special surprise at the end of the book - a beautiful two page pop up of a multi tiered fully decorated Christmas Tree. Because the story is written in simple lilting rhythmic style, this book should be read out loud. The book would make an excellent read aloud in lower elementary classrooms and also for all your young children. It would be neat to read this story out loud as you gather with your family and friends to decorate your Christmas tree. ... show more

  • Beautiful words and illustrations!
There's nothing like a book filled with fun rhyming patterns, and this book has it all! The sing song text that celebrates a tradition of picking the perfect Christmas tree and decorating it with family makes this a great read aloud for a classroom or a night time family story. The illustrations are beautiful, represent families of all shades of color and enjoying time with each other, and keep my kids engaged from the very first page to the very last page! ... show more

  • A new, special tradition for our family
We love this book! I gave it to my daughter the day we put up our tree, and we read it together while lying on pillows under the tree. She now requests that we ONLY read this book under the tree (so we can look up at the lights). The illustrations are beautiful and the rhyming text is so fun and sweet. This book has become a fun and special part of our holiday. ... show more

  • Boring
I purchased this book because it was on a lot of reading list for children’s Christmas books. So, I had high expectations. I was disappointed. It just is not my cup of tea. I definitely prefer books with storylines based on characters. However, the pictures were adorable.
