I have been using small rounded-end scissor to do this trimming but found it a bit awkward to do. I was leery about nose-hair trimmer devices that were available because I have to be very careful about inadvertently causing a nose bleed to which I am susceptible, so I did not have one until I purchased this unit. My friend was using a similar unit when I visited once and he thought that the device worked well so I decided to try for myself. It took me a little while to "get the hang of it", but now I can use it quite effectively. The one thing I found is that it needs to be cleaned immediately after each use because the single battery motor is not very powerful. If not cleaned then some of the fluid it picks up from the trim operation will clog up the mechanism. So, just like my shaver, I clean this device in the same cleaning fluid as my shaver and have not had any problems since doing that after every use. Just a few seconds of running immersed in the fluid does the job. I dropped one star off my rating because I found the eyebrow trimmer attachment less effective and a bit awkward to use as compared to the nose hair trimmer. ... show more

Frankly, I had hoped that the current Norelco model 3000 trimmer would be as good as the older one that I have been using, and with which I have been very pleased. Norelco has retained the feature of being able to clean the head of this unit by placing it under running water. This is an excellent feature ! Unfortunately, this unit does not give as close a trim as the previous model 3000 trimmer because of a different head design. It appears that Norelco came up with the new design in order to save money and retain its cost position in the market place. Personally, I would be willing to pay a bit more in order to get an exact replacement for my current model 3000. ... show more
