  • A quality, well-built, well-thought out headlamp - worth your consideration.
Nice headlight. We have some older Petzl Tikkas, and this is mostly better than those. The older ones held the batteries in tightly when you closed the backing door, but the batteries tended to pop out of place while you were doing that. On this model, the problem is a bit different. The batteries stay in on their own, and the door is now lighter and seems to be a little less sturdy than before. But, OTOH, the only reason the door was so beefy before was that it was the only thing holding the batteries in place. I think this is an improvement - the batteries load easily and everything opens and closes much more easily than before. The light is excellent. This has four different white light modes and one red light mode. The lowest white light mode is intended to be dim enough to shine it in people's faces and not blind them. It's perfect for that. The medium light mode is supposed to be enough for you to walk in the dark. It does a terrific job of having a bright narrow area in the center and a dimmer but definitely usable side lighting (it's a sophisticated lens that you can't easily see from their pictures). The 'high' light mode is supposed to let you do things like run in the dark. Still need to try that one for that purpose, but it is quite bright. Finally, there's a "burst" mode from the highest light level, that will make things even brighter for ten seconds. That does indeed make it even brighter, but it's not a huge difference. Need to try that outside in the dark to see if it changes things. The only thing I'm not sure I like about this at this point is that you *really* need the manual to use the different light modes. There are three different types of button push this thing understands. (There's only one button, and it seems very waterproofed, with a high quality rubber cover.) If you push it quickly, you cycle through the regular white light modes, but not the burst mode. To get that brightest amount of light, you need to double-push the button quickly. And how do you switch between white and red light? (BTW, only one level of red light.) For that, you need to push the button and hold it down till it switches to red. Same thing to switch back to white. I think with frequent use it will become intuitive, but when you first get it, it's a little confusing. I bought this with my own money for my wife, as we have a small farm and end up working in the dark a lot this time of year. She needs the better light for harvesting in the dark. We get pretty dirty and wet working at the farm in the dark, so I'll update later on durability. So far the light is excellent quality, and seems to be built to take a beating, unlike a lot of the Chinese models out there. ... show more

  • "The Tactikka plus was falling behind as product and needed a refresh pretty bad. The replacement is still called the Tacktikka
It's okay. I really prefer the older version. I still have one and holding them side by side, you can really feel the quality difference. The new one is brighter, yes. But the battery life is not nearly as long as the previous version, which is what I'm looking for. I even emailed petzl. This is their response. "The Tactikka plus was falling behind as product and needed a refresh pretty bad. The replacement is still called the Tacktikka Plus and has some difference but I only consider them improvements. Here is a link to the current model on petzl.com. [...]Huge lumen increase to 160 lumens Lighting modes go from low to high as you described. LED's went from 4 LED's to one high output and one red led I am sorry we have had to change the lamp but I think you will grow to enjoy the newer version. Were there any additional complaints about the change I could pass along? Please don't hesitate to let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with." ... show more

  • Optimistic despite concerns
I bought this lamp for the field to replace an aging Petzl lamp. I prefer the color of this one to my older black lamp and I also appreciate that the band is now berry compliant. Unfortunately the design of this lamp feels less sturdy than the previous one. It seems as though it would blow apart if dropped from standing height, also it does not seal completely and has no o-ring so I'm not sure how it would perform in a downpour. Usage it a bit more complex but easy once you know what to do. ... show more

  • Different casing than older Petzl models
Color: Black
As has been stated elsewhere here, the casing feels like a lighter, thinner plastic than an older Petzl I have. I haven't field tested this one yet, so I can't comment on it's overall durability. I don't doubt it, based on light around the house use. The low-light mode is useful for not blinding your mates. ... show more

  • This light has great brightness and the red light comes in handy
This light has great brightness and the red light comes in handy. The only reason I gave it 4 starts is I believe Petal could've done a way better job with the case where it closes to seal the battery pocket. It just does't seam that it will stay closed under stress and further more it doesn't seem like it will stand up to the elements. ... show more

  • The best headtorch on the market.
Color: Black
This is an expensive head torch. And it is really worth the money. As a seasoned hardcore traveller and expeditioner I have very specific requirements for key pieces of equipment, and this was one of them. Good size and weight, and also runs off triple A batteries. No gimmicks and unhelpful technology that is just going to fail when you need it to work. This really marks the highpoint of headtorch development. ... show more

  • Love it.
Color: Black
I bought my first Tactikka 11 years ago. The batteries leaked in it so I got this newer version. Much better even than the old one. The price makes it even better deal!

  • All good, read the manual first
Color: Black
Works fine, weren't abl top pull it out of the box & intuitively use it, however once we read the manual it made sense & we were good to go, & happy that it's superior to similar lamps in our gear. Item quality, packaging, & shipping met our expectations, thank you
