I use mine for a railroad uniform hat (not police, military, fire, etc). Keeps the precipitation off of my summer weight hat and head. Also keeps some heat in during winter wear since I won’t buy a winter hat. Two months of winter so far so good. I only use the black side. It should fit most NYPD style 8 point hats and would also probably fit fine on the round style, though I haven't tried it on one of those. It's a bit thicker than I was expecting, which is good. Construction seems decent and when it is black side out I couldn't see any of the yellow showing through. I'm not sure whether there is an actual waterproof membrane in it or if it just relies on the nylon repelling the water. The cover works well has funny smell to it but just let it sit near a window and the smell dissipates it will fine after that. No hole for the cap device so I just made one small.
