  • Valuable information for beginners.
I purchased this book along with another “Dummies “ book. I have taken multiple personal finance classes throughout my life and I might say I am really pleased with the way the book is designed, laced out and its language. It’s written for the people who want a basic interpretation and definitions of finance. I have not completed all the chapters, but what I have read, is very detailed and in plain English. So many examples to help you get a better idea of what keeping your personal finances in check. I would recommend to high school graduates, newly married couples and pretty much anybody needing basic introduction to personal finance. Well written. Simple to comprehend, with real world examples. Highly recommend. ... show more

I honestly recommend! My 15 year old Loves it! They don't teach this in school so it's perfect

  • Solid foundation - great for financial literacy
Great introduction - I have an MBA and some of the stuff in this was actually news to me, but mostly just a review of good finance practices. I'd highly recommend to anyone graduating high school or entering college - it'll at least introduce topics that you haven't had exposure to yet - like the importance of disability insurance and how to approach an investment portfolio. ... show more

  • Great, sound advice
I read this when I was newly married and am giving it to my kids as they become adults. Some of my favorite lessons from this book: 1. Don't spend every dime (=misery) or save every dime (=miser), but manage what you have so you can eventually get what you really want, while finding joy along the way. 2. Get term life insurance. Whole life/universal life insurance has tax benefits, but these don't make up for the high fees that financial advisors and others collect when selling these policies. You'd be far better off paying lower term life insurance premiums and taking the extra and investing it in a Roth IRA or something (as long as you have the discipline to do this). 3. Related to #2, beware of the conflict of interest that financial advisors have. They are incentivized to sell you things that direct your money into their pocket, even if they don't result in the most money in your pocket. 4. Take advantage of 401(k) matching by your employer. This is "free money". 5. Save for retirement in a Roth IRA. 6. Invest by buying & holding funds such as no-load/low-fee mutual funds (or even index funds), or perhaps real estate. And lots of other good advice. ... show more

  • Change your life!
I purchased the first edition copyright 1995 which has literally changed my life. Financial literacy and time are the most valuable commodities youth have today. I’m back now buying copies for my daughters allowing them to build a baseline knowledge I did. This book builds a basic foundation you can build a better financial life with. ... show more

  • Somewhat useful
This book is a mixture of good and bad advice, current and outdated information, useful and useless sections.
