  • Goodbye sleep
***edit*** After sinking 83 hours into my first playthough and another 75 in my NG+, here are my SPOILER FREE thoughts on how ROYAL compares to the BASE GAME. - The OG game 8/10, great as is but some minor stuff could've used improvement. ROYAL is an easy 10/10 because they improved on said stuff, and MORE! - ROYAL has given the players actual useful incentives to use pre-existing game mechanics by changing how they work. Technicals can give insane damage boosts, and baton passes have a new feature for the player to improve on that can give even more insane damage boosts (among other things) which increase the more you pass the baton in one party round. - ACCESSORIES can now give skills to whoever wears it, so you can give characters skills that they wouldn't have originally, like healing skills, magic skills, and support skills, among other stuff like passive effects. So instead of defaulting to an SP adhesive for everyone, you can now give it some more thought on what can help you in battle. - DAILY LIFE has vastly improved purely on the basis that, on nights when you're stuck home, instead of being forced to go to bed by the cat, you (most of the time) have actual OPTIONS of what you can do. you can still make coffee/curry, play games, study, read, and craft tools. you can also train, assuming you didn't A. go to the metaverse, and B. get a massage from a confidant. so with how much new content is added in ROYAL, they give you a lot more time slots to do things now. Any HP or SP you increased via training or the temple CARRY OVER, which makes it worth doing when you're near the end of your playthrough will little else to do aside from hanging out with maxed out confidants and ... fishing... - MEMENTOS grinding has been improved upon as you can now change how much money, exp, and items you can get while dungeon crawling. this is done through a character you're introduced to the early game. it gives you a reason to go through each floor (and sometimes even repeat floors for certain perks). - CONS would mostly be about certain story beats that still clung onto ROYAL. they did make it less homophobic if i heard right, though Atlus' handling of 'flamboyant characters' is still hot garbage. additionally, there is a moment at the end of the 7th palace that rubs me the wrong way and did not shine the greatest of lights on the main characters. and the beginning does tend to go beyond it's welcoming stage, dragging on before they finally let your hand go, but it's whatever- this isn't meant to be a short game in the slightest. - THE THIRD SEMESTER is also kind of a letdown, given how it's just an extended palace versus an actual semester's worth of time (and content), but it's great enough on its own that i'm fine with it. the character arc for a certain character as well was great to see. and the main villain for the semester is honestly very sympathetic. it's still messed up, what they wanted to do and how far they were willing to go to achieve said goals, but it's... something that definitely made me conflicted when i originally heard their reasons for what they're doing. - ROMANCE. you cannot romance any dudes (crow, i'm mainly looking at you). and there's an achievement for romancing 10 girls that is necessary to complete all achievements to get 2 really good game perks. you can technically cheese the achievement without cheating on your girl, but it's time-consuming, but also the guilt of cheating would kill me outright. anyways. royal is truly a gem of a game that will ever grace the switch (or any platform), next to ACNH and Minecraft. It's stylish, fun, and completely packed with soooo much content, i promise you won't even reach everything in your first (or even second) playthrough. if you're into JRPGS, turn-based games, and a semi-daily sim with a cast of mostly great, fleshed-out characters (good or evil), then this is THE game for you. just get it. ***original review below (typed out of sheer excitement)*** Gonna grind so hard. I had the original on ps3 and got so much done, but i dont mind starting fresh with royal on switch. I will say, since u get all the dlc’s free, i’ve just… been abusing and oneshotting early enemies with izanagi no okami’s myriad truths + victory cry, which is honestly a nice tradeoff ... show more

  • A great port for one of the best RPGs out there
Gotta say, I’m loving everything about this game and this port. One of the best aspects is portability and P5R fits right at home for the switch. The game is pretty long so being able to play it portability and in bed feels great. The switch port is obviously gonna look blurry at times but it doesn’t look that bad and it doesn’t take away my enjoyment. Throughout my experience, the game ran at a steady 30 fps and I haven’t noticed any slowdowns or dip in resolution. This is my first experience playing Persona and gotta praise the characters because they all have their strengths and weaknesses but it’s great to spend time with them and getting closer to them. Be warned that you have a schedule so use your time wisely. Obviously and easily my favorite thing about the game is the music. Each track is a bop and had me falling in love with the soundtrack. Beneath The Mask and Life Will Change are my favorites. Overall, this is a fantastic port and if you’re interested in playing Persona 5 Royal on the go then I say go for it and if you’re into RPGs and wanna build up your switch library then I recommend this. ... show more

  • AVOID THE STEELBOOK, otherwise Phenomenal Title and an Essential for the Switch
Only here to add my 2 cents. DO. NOT. BUY. THE. STEELBOOKS. They are already sold out and the third-party sellers list that they are seilling it, but they don't have anymore because they are scarce and impossible to find now. They have the regular retail copies they will deliver to you instead. IGNORE third-party sellers listing the steelbook edition! There aren't anymore left! ... show more

  • Great Game, Beautiful Steelbook
Been wanting to play for a while but didn’t have a PlayStation or Xbox, really fun game to play. As the first Persona game I’ve gotten into, it’s really enjoyable. Got Persona 4 Golden so can’t wait to continue the series!

  • Actually the Greatest JRPG of ALL-TIME!
The OG Persona 5 was already a masterpiece, but Royal refines it even more with enhanced frame rate and an additional story that was done extremely well. This is actually one of the most important games to play in your life - you must add it to your bucket list! It tackles hard social issues and subjects like depression, loneliness, social isolation, sexism, abuse and bullying in the most empowering and uplifting ways possible in a video game thus far. You will NOT be disappointed, it's one of those games of a LIFETIME... No spoilers, but by the end of the game/epilogue, you feel like you're ready to conquer ANYTHING negative in real life! Happy Playing! :) ... show more

  • Scam - buyer beware
They advertise as if it is the Steel Book edition with DLC . But its just the regular game. Overpriced and false advertising. Amazon should take action on these type of scams. Cero stars.

  • Get that treasure
This is my favorite JRPG on switch, It loads with a decent time and you can barely tell that it is on a inferior console mainly just a slightly lower resolution than other versions which doesn't matter on the handheld screen and like 2 animations are a bit choppy in the whole game, also for those who like to have everything at the moment it is currently missing one cosmetic DLC that you could buy on the PS4 version ... show more

  • Perfect Port
It's Persona 5.. on a switch! Runs at a steady 30fps, looks great in portable mode, all dlc on cartridge and overall incredible game. If you're ok with the same 30 fps you've had in all previous editions.. but on the go, this is right for you! Otherwise, grab the PS5, XBSX or PC versions for a solid 60 FPS but sacrifice the portability... unless you have a Steam Deck. ... show more
