This sealant stopped an inexplicable coolant leak in my wife's 2008 VW Beetle. The car just isn't worth putting any more money into it since there are wayyy more things wrong with it, so this is a temporary fix before we finally junk it. I recently tried Permatex's Power Steering Stop Leak to address a minor leak in my car's power steering system. The application was easy enough - just pour it into the reservoir. And to my surprise, it actually worked! The leak stopped, and the annoying whining noise from my power steering pump disappeared. However,after a few weeks, the leak returned. I was disappointed that it turned out to be a temporary fix, not a permanent solution. I also want to mention that the product can be a bit messy to handle, so be prepared for some spills. The fact that the leak came back and the messy application were definite downsides. If you're looking for a quick and cheap way to deal with a minor power steering leak, this product might be worth a shot. Just don't expect miracles, and be prepared for the possibility that it might not be a long-term solution. ... show more

I have an old Nissan pickup truck with leaky power steering. This definitely slowed the leak - but I know exactly what it does. It's basically brake fluid, it swells the seals, and eventually I know I'll end up needing to replace additional components. That being said the truck is 30+ years old and the power steering needs to be addressed - and this is a stop gap NOT A TRUE FIX. In the past I've used Lucas powersteering stop leak with marginal results. Compared to the Lucas, this Permatex stop leak is slightly thinner/less tacky and is tan in color, more like standard powersteering fluid. I'm currently testing it in my boat & jeep and so far it seems to be doing the job. I will report back once I get more hours on both. ... show more

So far it looks like it works. No more leak! I used to have a steady stream of coolant coming from a failed head gasket, but it's an external leak, one of those just top it off leaks. This seemed to do the trick, 15 minutes of idleing and 45 of driving, now it's bone dry.
